historical purposes, MEWA was founded in 2007 and is licensed by the State of Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs to operate as a Post-Secondary Beauty School, and is also recognized as an Accredited Institution by the United States Department of Education, Office of Post-Secondary Education.  We are Institutionally Accredited by the [redacted] ([redacted]), an agency that has been approved by the United States Department of Education, Office of Post-Secondary Education, as a Nationally Recognized Accrediting Agency.  The Policies and Procedures of MEWA have been vetted by and approved by [redacted] and are in alignment with national standards.  The Cancellation, Refund, & Withdrawal Policy of MEWA is published in the Course Catalog as well as in the Enrollment Agreement that is initialed and signed by each student during the enrollment process to acknowledge their understanding.  Copies of both documents are then given to each student.  Our current published Cancellation, Refund, & Withdrawal Policy states that refunds due to a student who withdraws shall be refunded within forty-five (45) days of an official withdrawal.  The release of transcripts after a withdrawal is not stated, but it is inferred to occur along with the distribution of any refunds. Below is a timeline of events regarding Ms. [redacted] (daughter of complainant):       07/03/17              Application to attend MEWA was submitted by Ms. [redacted]. 07/28/17              Enrollment Agreement initialed and signed during orientation by Ms. [redacted].08/21/17              Day 1 of attendance by Ms. [redacted].  Student Statement of Understanding of MEWA Policies and Procedures signed by Ms. [redacted]. 09/16/17              Letter of withdrawal submitted by Ms. [redacted]09/18/17              Exit interview between Ms. [redacted], Mr. [redacted] (boyfriend of Ms. [redacted]), and Malia S[redacted] (MEWA Principal & Director of Education).   Any refund due and issuance of transcripts was explained to Ms.    [redacted] and Mr. [redacted] to occur within forty-five (45) days of an official withdrawal, in accordance with our published Cancellation, Refund, & Withdrawal Policy.10/17/17              Message received from Mr. [redacted] regarding Transcripts.10/19/17              Message received from Mr. [redacted] regarding Transcripts.10/19/17              Phone call from Malia S[redacted] returned to Mr. [redacted].  No answer.  Message left on voicemail that the transcripts would be mailed out on 10/20/17.10/20/17              Transcripts mailed via [redacted].10/23/17              Phone call from Malia S[redacted] to Mr. [redacted] to confirm that he received the voicemail from 10/19/17.  He stated that he did not.  Ms. S[redacted] informed him that the transcripts were mailed out on 10/20/17.10/27/17              Phone call from Jeff S[redacted] (Director of Administrative Services) to Mr. [redacted] to confirm that the transcripts were received by Ms. [redacted].  Confirmed receipt by Mr. [redacted]. As exhibited in the timeline above, 34 days elapsed from the submittal of the letter of withdrawal (9/16/17) to the mailing of the transcripts (10/20/17).  MEWA was well within our stated Cancellation, Refund, & Withdrawal Policy of 45 days to issue a refund and transcripts.  Please let me know if you require any additional documentation to debunk this unsubstantiated complaint.  It should be noted, that complainant states a purchase price of $2739.84.   Actual payment was $2379.84. It should also be noted that prior to her enrollment at MEWA, Ms. [redacted] had previously enrolled and withdrew from the [redacted].  Also, on 10/20/17, the same day that the complainant filed this complaint, [redacted] was served with a civil lawsuit by the victim of whom he was convicted of sexually assaulting.  [redacted] These events may be unrelated to this complaint, but taken in whole, shows the mindset and motivation of the complainant.  It also shows a pattern where the complainant may be laying the groundwork for potential future litigation.   ATTACHMENTS: Attachment 1: Signed and initialed Enrollment Agreement between MEWA and Ms. [redacted] Attachment 2: Signed Student Statement of Understanding of MEWA Policies and Procedures Attachment 3: Copy of receipt of payment of $2379.84 Thank You, Jeff S[redacted]Director of Administrative ServicesMakana Esthetics Wellness Academy[redacted]
