McRae Plumbing & Excavating Reviews (%countItem)

The owner Steve *** has a strange way of doing business. He wrote a contract and put a post a note on top of it detailing the project, then he shoots it with camera phone and sends it to you as a text. The post of note is vague and states "No sheet rock repairs if needed". So a quote of $4,550 to $4,750 seems fair for a pipe repair "to remove all copper possible". After the job was done his plumber gives me a bill for $6,500.00. I paid $5,000.00 which exceeded his post a note agreement. So Steve we can take this to mediation if you wish.

Now for the rest of the story. I toured This customers residence with both he and his wife, walked the entire house. I made some notes and took pictures as I always do. There was a clear plan to replace all copper possible with out cutting sheetrock except for 1 place that some sheetrock work had been done, and that was agreed on. When my crew got to the house to do the work, the job changed and we did what the customer asked. We did way more work than what was agreed upon, including even changing out a shower valve and and rebuilding faucets. Some people you just cant please. Have a great day.

"The rest of the story"...oh no...there's more. McRae Plumbing owner Steve needs to realize his foreman Randy wanted to cut sheetrock out of many walls, throughout the downstairs ceiling hallway and in the dining room ceiling. The damage would have been extensive and expensive to repair. Interestingly Steve's son in law Joe does sheetrock so I wonder why Steve states "no sheetrock repair if needed" but then his workers insisted on tearing out lots of sheetrock. As to "We did way more work than what was agreed upon" well if Steve recounts a phone conversation we had to "get on the same page" in Steve's own words I told Steve I expected all copper possible to be removed since we had already had 8 pin hole leaks and I told Steve "the copper had pin hole cancer and it all needed to be cut out". Now as to "rebuilding the faucets" that's a stretch the faucets are all the same...maybe Steve should see for himself. What they did do is change the shut off valves with quarter rounds which is partly why I paid them $450.00 over the agreed amount. But in reality in order to change out the copper you need to deal with shut off valves anyway. F.Y.I The shower valve was supplied by me. Steve's people did cut a square foot of sheetrock out of a bath wall and another square foot out of a closet wall which we will repair. Two noteworthy things...Steve has no authorizing signature of mine on any contract and secondly I paid $450.00 above what was proposed in the post a note which his office manager, his daughter provided me as a text image. It's Steve's shoddy contract handling and zero personal supervision that's a problem. The delivery of a "Gotcha" inflated by 30% contract after the work is done is really unprofessional and the Tennessee Department of Business Regulation should get involved...and maybe they will. Interestingly his people stated they get paid by the job not by the hour. By my count they had 10 people coming and going, only 4 of them were plumbers I believe is what they told me. Steve it's nice to own a business but seriously I can't recommend you to my neighbors. Hang your head low buddy!

Its useless to argue with someone who thinks they know more than anyone around them. So highly educated with no common sense or morals. What ever happened to a mans word and a hand shake when we look eye to eye. I guess not anymore, I know better. Sleep comfortable knowing we fixed your water problem. I'm done with this.

I was having water low pressure in my home. I called McRae Services to locate the problem. I had two pressure valves in my water line due to a soft water unit in my home. They remove the older valve thinking it might be faulty, causing the low pressure, and placed in a straight water line with a cut off water lever. They keep the newer valve, cleaned it. and placed it back, but the wrong way. The water pressure seem to be good
for a couple of days, but went back to the low pressure as before, due to the pressure valve placed the wrong way. Not knowing the valve being in the wrong direction, this caused the thinking of a bad water line. Checked the water pressure with KUB from the main line to the meter that showed excellent pressure. Also, there were no water leaks in the line. McRae suggested I put a new water line in at a cost of $3250.00. I agreed to have them do the job, but to a breakdown in their excavator, they could not do the work for a couple of weeks. I could not wait that long, so I hired another plumbing company to do the job at the same price. They work cutting a path through woods and started digging a trench for the new water line. I then found that McRae had place the pressure valve in the wrong way after they had done$1000 worth of work. The new plumber turned the water valve to the right direction, and had full pressure again. He stop work and I paid him his $1000. I called *** McRae owner of McRae Services to get reimbursed for the money that his mistake caused. He denied his people made the mistake. They were the only people to work on the it. They had to be the people to do the damage. I have two witnesses to the wrong direction pressure valve. They can testify that it was the wrong direction. He would not give me back a dime of money. I ask him to a least give me back the money ($345.00) the wrong work he had done. He declined that, but called me later and said he would give me $150 back A drop in the bucket to what he owed me, so I declined. It was clearly their fault. Do not do business with these people. They are
dishonest and unprofessional.

Mr Bennett hired McRae Plumbing because he was told he had a leak and wanted a new water line. We went out to give a price and could not find a leak. We tried to diagnose the problem and noticed he had 2 PRV's. We did change the PRV as noted by Mr. Bennett and charged him $345 which is very acceptable price in our industry. If we would have installed it backwards it would not have worked at all. Mr bennett stated it worked good for a few days after install. The only thing I can think of is it got clogged up with trash and debris causing it to malfunction. I did offer Mr Bennett a partial refund to provide a level of customer service, we did nothing wrong.

Mr. McRae is not telling the truth. The PRV will work when installed backward, but not very well. The pressure was very low. Not good enough to take showers, do laundry, or run the dish washer. They installed the pressure valve backwards, that caused all the problems.
I have proof from the plumber who works for *** Plumbing who changed the valve around in the right direction Ounce it was changed around the pressure was good again. McRae needs to call *** Plumbing to verify the mistake. .I asked for the my $345 back, because of their shoddy work. They only offered $150. Not enough for all the problems they caused with the time without pressure for two weeks, and the cost of $1000 to start replacing the water line mentioned in my first statement. McRae Services is dishonest and unprofessional.

McRae Plumbing & Excavating Response • Oct 23, 2018

I have actually seen a PRV installed backwards and it works for about 2 seconds. I'm not talking bad about any other companies. I just know we didn't install it backwards.

Customer Response • Oct 25, 2018

McRae Services installed the Pressure Valve backwards. They will not call Winkle Plumbing (talk to John) to verify the mistake. Do not do business with these people, because the are dishonest and unprofessional..

McRae Plumbing evaluated and suggested review of a leaky toilet. Anthony said, "If it was me I would buy a new one, probably less expensive than trying to rehab existing unit. Was glad for input as it likely will save my son-in-law money. Would definitely recommend using McRae in the future.
