Merchants Adjustment Service Reviews (%countItem)

Merchant Adjustment Services reported a collections actions to the credit agencies on July 13, 2020 for a bill that I paid on 01/30/2020.
I'm in the process of purchasing a home and during a routine check of my credit report on July 16, 2020, I noticed that Merchant Adjustment Services (MAS) had reported an unpaid medical bill balance to the credit bureaus. I immediately contacted MAS to notify them that they had made a mistake and that the entry must be removed from my credit report. MAS stated that there was nothing that they could do about it until the other parties involved: *** Imaging (PSI) and Management Services Network (MSN), notify them that the bill had been paid.

After the conversation with MAS, I immediately contacted PSI and MSN of the error and they confirmed that there was a $0 balance on the account and that MAS should not have reported this to the credit bureaus. PSI and MSN both notified MSA that their reporting was in error and that the entry to my credit report should be removed.

I contacted MAS on July 17, 2020 to verify that they had received written confirmation from PSI and MSN that the bill had been paid and the entry must be removed from my credit report. MAS confirmed that they had received the written confirmation and that they would proceed in removing the information from my credit report. Before ending the conversation with MAS, I requested that they send me a letter stating that the credit report filling was in error and that they notify the credit agencies immediately to have the entry removed.

As of this filing, July 23, 2020, I have not received the requested letter from MAS and they have not removed the entry from my credit report. MAS' failure to do is causing me a great hardship in qualifying for a home mortgage.

Desired Outcome

I'm requesting that Merchant Adjustment Services send me a letter stating that the credit report filling was in error and that they notify the credit agencies immediately to have the entry removed.

As stated previously we are having it cleared with the credit bureau and have sent a letter to complainant.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
As of today, 07/28/2020, the entry is still on my credit report and I have not received a letter from Merchant.

Merchants Adjustment Service Response • Jul 29, 2020

We have followed up as stated previously. We checked with Equifax and there is no remaining record of the account about which there was a complaint. We welcome a call from complainant to determine the matter for which he continues to complain since we have done what he asked.

Customer Response • Jul 30, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
As of today, 07/30/2020, the entry is still on my credit report. Merchant keeps making statements that they have deleted the entry but it is still on my report. Someone is not being truthful here and based on history it is Merchant. If it has been deleted why can't Merchant provide me with proof that the entry has been deleted. Have they requested the credit agencies send my formal verification?

Merchants Adjustment Service Response • Jul 30, 2020

We have sent the information to the complainant's email as given above along with a letter to his address explaining that the entry to his credit file has been deleted. We have further followed up with the credit bureau to verify no entry remains. We are told not to include personal information on our replies and, therefore, cannot attach proof of our actions although complainant can continue to send repeated complaints after we have resolved the matter. We ask that if we cannot give personal information that complainant be asked to give proof that what we said we did, did not happen.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
It is not my responsibility to provide proof to Merchant. I was not part of the conversation to the credit bureau so I do not know what was communicated. Merchant submitted the collection entry in error and it is their responsibility to clear it up, not mine.

Merchants Adjustment Service Response • Jul 31, 2020

It is cleared up -- we are asking the complainant to tell us what is not cleared up as there is no entry on his credit file for us.

Poor follow up due diligenge. Talked with one employee that had a terrible attitude. I would accept a formal written apology or go forth with a poor rating for a shoddy business

MERCHANTS ADJUSTMENTS is reporting inaccurate information to the credit bureau.
After viewing my credit report, I am writing in regards to an inaccurate medical bill that is listed on Equifax, in the amount of $143. I have no knowledge of this medical bill, nor the company that it is associated with. I sent out a Certified VALIDATION letter to MERCHANTS ADJUSTMENTS on 2/2020. It is now 5/2020 I have yet to receive a response from this company.

Desired Outcome

I would like for this inaccurate account that is being reported to the credit bureau deleted, immediately.

Merchant Adjustment Services arrogantly and with deceptive intentions has repeated avoided my phone calls and request to settle a current collection.
Merchant Adjustment employee, Mr. have intentionally tried to strongarm me into paying off a collection debt by using tactics such as lying, deception, and intimidation/threats stating that he has been given command to only collect the full amount according to the *** office manager and Merchant Adjustment. I've spoken with the office manager from ***, and she informed that she had not spoken with anyone from Merchant Adjustment nor given instructions or any directions on the amount they must collect. I've called Merchant Adjustment every day from May 4th through today, May 18th requesting to speak to their office manager ***, at Extension 109 after unsuccessfully speaking to Mr., but to no avail. Also requested daily through her voicemail for her to call me back everyday after verifying from their company operator that she is currently at work and physically in the building.... nothing (no response) from her still to this date. Somehow Mr. knew that I have tried to contact his manger after unsuccessfully trying to resolve my debt by asking him are options available for less than the amount owed or what payment plans are available. Mr. refuse to speak to me in details about my account, but did take time to inform me that he just discovered through researching my name and address, that I have another account with them that should be in a collection status from Providence Hospital from 2016 and I should be aware that it could be reported to my credit file if not paid. I informed Mr. that I was not calling about any other account only the *** account. After spending two weeks trying to resolve the current debt with Merchant Adjustment I get email and phone notifications this past weekend that my credit file just took a hit (drop point in my credit file) from a new collection reporting an additional $1493 item hitting my credit. The new collection is from Providence Hospital and is being serviced by Merchant Adjustment as the debt collection representative. This collection was settled with Providence through my formal insurance company two and half years ago and successfully disputed to be removed 13 months ago from all 3 credit reporting agencies. Mr. and the office manager added this to my file out of spite. No one from Merchant Adjustment asked anything about this collection's overall status, Merchant Adjustment never asked had the account been paid in full, settled for less, or reported in error. I was not given an opportunity for a rebuttal response, out of nowhere I was blindsided with another negative mark only because I offered and requested to pay less than the full amount of $553 to ***. Merchant Adjustment business model seems to be at best, vindictive! If you don't pay what they want you to pay, they threaten you through disdainful practices that can easily infuriate anybody. Merchant Adjustment are fully aware of the damages that are inherited when collections are added to someone credit file. Mr. and *** are representing a debt collection company that have only displayed their lack of compassion for debt owners by being unsound in their business practices in customer service and professionalism.

Desired Outcome

I'm working less than 24 hours a week and wanted to get this matter resolved, not add more bad debt to my credit file. Remove the new account from Providence Hospital and settle my current account. At this moment I'm willing to pay today just to have it removed and to have Merchant Adjustment stop reporting negative information to my credit file. Send proof of accounts since one is in dispute.

Customer Response • May 26, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Attempted to contact office manager since filing my complaint for resolution on several more occasions but still only gets her voicemail, I have no way to know if I'm asking for the right person. When calling into Merchant Adjustment local office, whomever answers (operator) the company phone will be extremely brief with the caller and quickly sends the caller to a voicemail for a so called ***. I have yet to speak with the often absent office manager over the last couple of weeks. Called in today, 26 May, left yet another voicemail and also called back and spoke with Mr. Will only to have him to inform me that he could no longer assist me in any way and I have to speak with *** the office manager for more guidance. He also half heartily encouragement me to keep calling and she would eventually answer the phone or call me back.
I'm finding it hard to believe any one person could be this busy ALL the time. Mr. Will answers his phone mostly on the first or second ring and he always smugly share information and updates that he is very aware of my many attempts to reach the so call office manager time and time again and certainly he realize my frustration level is on high.
I do not accept their response that they have tried to contact me via phone and their attempt to leave a voicemail. As many attempts I've made to resolve this issue with Merchant Adjustment, I would have thought that the office manager would have made more than one dismal attempt reaching out to me, if in fact she actually dialed my number. I'm available through email, courier, phone, or I could simply accept a scheduled physical appointment in their local office. So no I do not believe that she has tried contacting me at all.
I'm looking for resolution from this company that intentionally stimulates themselves with horrible business practices because they know resolution has to come from and through them.

Merchants Adjustment Service Response • May 27, 2020

5/27/20-I am out of the office today but have tried to reach complainant but voice mail message says the voice mail box is full.
I will be in the office 5/28/20 and will be happy to discuss settling these accounts if he wishes to call me.

Attempted to settle a debt and only asked for in writing what they would on their end before payment and they would not.
Made contact with them this morning about a debt that is most likely my sons since he has same name, I however offered to pay debt in full instead of disputing it. I only asked for email verification that they would remove from my credit if handled today. They refused saying noone in their company would say that but repeatedly said how reputable they are. Well if that reputable then I dont understand why couldnt send a document stating they would follow thru with what they were saying they would do. In my mind no that's not reputable at all.

Desired Outcome

I would pay debt that I dont believe is mine, email me a verification that you willremove from my credit history as you state.

Merchants Adjustment Service Response • Apr 09, 2020

We did state to complainant that all paid accounts are reported to the credit bureau each Monday. The accounts were paid 4/8/20 (same day as complaint).
We are dealing with a high volume of calls with limited staff due to COVID19 and the information will be reported exactly as we said. However I will email something to complainant today via his email as shown on complaint.

I recieved the correspondence I asked for from the manager. If the person I had spoke wouldve allowed me to speak to a manager when I asked this could've all been avoided instead of exact words being I guarantee you 1000% she wouldnt do it either. But thank you to the manager as she did it.

Repeatedly assured by employee that mother does not owe a debt that has been turned over to them. We have been told they will get it straightened out.
My mother had dimaging performed at Lincoln Medical Center in November of 2017. Dr. *** Laymon was the radiologist that read the images. My mother is in an extremely limited income. Her insurance is medicare and Medicaid. When ever receives a bill for medical services because of her low income and dual insurance coverage. The ordered imaging was necessary because she had fractured vertebrae. Therefore, coverage was not denied because of lack of need for imaging. The hospital staff at which the services were provided has told us that billing errors are common with this physician. My mother had lost her vision and initial bills were missed. Mother was unaware of bills until she received a call from a collection agency. At that time my mother began calling her insurance and I communicated with the collection agency. Each time I spoke with a friendly gentleman by the name of Mr.. The first conversation consisted of me explaining the situation as described above. He assured me that he understood the dilemma and would "get it straightened out and and to worry about it". I was so relieved to have someone familiar with the process assuring us that it would not be an issue. A while later Mr. called my mother again. She asked him to call me. We talked. I explained the situation again and he said, "Oh yeah, I remember this conversation. Don't worry about it. I'll get it taken care of." I trusted that the first time was human error , that he had forgotten and trusted that he would definitely do as he promised this time. Several months later, my mother received another call from Mr.. She asked him to call me again. Up until this point I had not documented dates and times. However, I can obtain them from the debt collection company. When he called me again, we had an identical conversation as the second. He said "Oh yeah, I remember this conversation. Don't worry about it." I don't remember what else was said for me to verify that he would actually handle it this time. On March 2nd, 2020 My mother received a call from a lawyers office from a pre-litigation debt collection representative. She always informed that her bill had been turned over to lawyers. I called the office back for mother. I explained all of my conversations with Mr. and told them I would get more information from the debt collection agency and call them back. I called Mr.
on 3/3/2020 12:20
Mr. said he would have told me it was being turned over. to a lawyer. I told him I most certainly was never told that. He looked up his notes and bassinet he saw that he never told me because he said he was "going to forward a message to the office manager of the lawyers office. He told me not to call the lawyer that he was going to take care of it and get it squared away." I planned to call the lawyers office to verify that he had called them. However, I forgot to. My mother received another call from the lawyer's office on 3/11/2020. I called the office back and told them that Mr. had told me he was contacting them to get everything squared away. I told the representative that we needed to call Mr. via conference call to get this settled once and for all. The lawyer's office rep told me that she would put a hold on my mother's file and contact Merchant's adjustment service herself. I told her that I would be contacting them also. I called Merchants. Mr. answered. I told him that I need to speak to his supervisor. He asked who was calling. I told him my name and identified that I was calling for my mother and identified her by her name. He asked if he could help. I told him he most certainly could not. I told him that he had lied to me in multiple occasions and shame on me for falling for it repeatedly. He told me his supervisor is Mrs. a Byrd. That her extension is 109. He transferred me. I got her voicemail. I explained the situation and told her that I expect a resolution within 1 week.

Desired Outcome

My mother does not owe this bill. I want insurance re-filed and contacted. I did receive a call back from the lawyer's office and they said to send in my mother's insurance information and numbers and that he would re-file and have it handled.

Since the patient was sent on different dates for collection based on different dates of service, correspondence and calls were made on the individual charges different dates. We have contacted the provider of service to ascertain if further accounts are being sent for collection and advised of the complaint regarding contacts based on being sent to collections.
We did previously close the account with the attorney's office and have contacted them today to make sure they have ceased contact with the patient.
3/12/20-We are closing any accounts currently in our office for this patient. No further contact will be made with the patient on any accounts currently in our office.

Customer Response • Mar 12, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
If the company actually does as they say they will, we will be happy with the resolution. I am not completely clear on whether my mother still owes these bills? II understand that they are closing the accounts and that we will not be contacted by them. However, due to past experiences with them, I am not certain that we will not receive further attempts to collect from another agency and or law firm. I also want my mother's credit report repaired also.

They are trying to collect on a medical debt that was never approved nor billed to my Blue Cross nor never billed to me.
In October I received a collection notice from a Mr.Wills at Merchants Adjustment Service demanding payment of $441.00 for services rendered for medical testing I had done in 2019. The letter didn't explain any of this. I had to make some local calls to figure this out. Evidently this was for the doctors reading the test results.

I went through cancer treatments; chemotherapy and radiation, to the tune of $190,000 billed to my insurance and I personally paid $7,000 for co-pays in 2019.

At one point, an MRI had been scheduled but never pre-approved by the medical center and Blue Cross sent me a letter stating it had not been pre-approved and therefore I was NOT responsible for payment of any sort.

So there is nothing from the Blue Cross statements I received each month with a summary of any charges etc about these charges, and I never received any bills from this medical center.

I send all the Blue Cross statements along with a lengthy explanation to Mr. Mills asking for him to send me any proof that Blue Cross or I had ever been billed. All I got about 30 days later was the exact same letter with the exact same date, 12/17/19. With the second letter I resent my information with a second explanation letter again asking for any documentation to prove what they are asking.

Just today, March 5th, I got an alert from my credit monitoring company stating I had a collection on my credit and it needs attention.

So I really need your help to try and get to the bottom of this mess. I feel this was extremely poor service by them. they never sent me any explanation and and not it is in collections affecting my credit!!. If it is a legit bill it would have been paid had I received a bill.

Per the letter, if I dispute the claim, Merchants will gather and send me all information to validate the claim. but both times I have received NOTHING AT ALL.

I have worked very hard to build and maintain an excellent credit rating and I am sure as heck not going to let a measly $441. destroy that.

I have attached the Merchants letter. It seems I can only send one attachment but I will send you both letters I sent them if you want to see them.

Thank you

Desired Outcome

I would like the Revdex.com to assist in getting this claim back off my credit report as soon as possible.

Customer Response • Mar 06, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
The response is acceptable and is all I have been asking for since this started. If it is legit it will be paid asap.
To clarify the phone calls they said they did, the ONLY call that left a voicemail that I received was on 12/23 at 4:58PM. Someone left an ominous voicemail and their voice was a bit scary. That was the only call from their number after 12/5 that shows up on my phone.
I DO NOT accept unsolicited calls from numbers that I do not recognize. That is what voicemail is for. If it is truly important, LEAVE A MESSAGE. I also will not try and settle a claim like this via telephone. With so many bad scams occurring daily, I feel this is prodent to do it this way.

Plus, I will NEVER settle a claim like this via telephone unless I actually have the information in front of me so we could have a conversation about the claim on equal ground and not what they say it is.

Ok, I will give them a bit of time, up to 7 business days, to get the info to me they said they will send and plus they said they will remove the collections issue on my credit.

I presume that will be immediate?

If this doesn't happen by the end of the 7th business day, I will email you back to reopen the claim.

Thank you very much for taking this seriously and acting as quickly as you have.

Customer Response • Mar 09, 2020

Now with my credit score having dropped 25 points from excellent to just good, I would demand that Merchants contact all credit agencies and let them know the collections notice they initiated in error (fraudulently) was not accurate, as soon as the amount in question has been resolved. If my credit score does not raise back up the 25 points it started at before their blunder, this will have to go further up the ladder to resolve. I trust you would agree?
They can't continue to bully people like this without first providing proper paperwork, which they hadn't.

After reviewing the information they sant, I am going to pay the $441.00
Blue Cross, one of my monthly statements said I am not responsible for the charge, but as to why they denied the charge for it I don't know but I did have the MRI done. I just don't want to fight this any longer since there is an insurance company involved and they have their reasons for what they do.

I just sold some stock to pay for the $441.00 and need up to 5 business days from for the money to get into my account.

Can you please let them know I will be sending them a check for $441.00 this Friday? I emailed them a few days ago but have not heard a word back. They don't respond to me but will to you.

As long as they have removed the collection notice from the credit bureaus, it will be all good.

Thank you so very much for your help.

Failure to provide detailed billing and/or collection information
I sent a letter multiple times requesting verification of said debt in the amount of $430.01. I receive a generic printed off statement addressing me as a male, incorrect complete name, and my insurance information. Nothing else is given, which doesn't provide verification of anything. I have repeatedly asked for detailed billing information from this account and what insurance paid etc. I have contacted my insurance company and this bill was paid in full with nothing due for services rendered. I want this account deleted from my credit report on all 3 bureaus. This account has been paid number one, my information is incorrect number two, and they have failed to provide adequate billing to state I even owe (which I will contact my insurance company once again regarding this). This general printed off whatever you call it isn't enough information to validate this. Please remove from my credit report, send information I am requesting so that I can contact my insurance company once again.

Desired Outcome

Deletion from all 3 credit bureaus immediately.

Making a payment over the phone $5. Told I could do it online. Went in like still $5 fee and it won't show me the account.
I talked to a lady to see about this account in my credit. She said I could pay for the phone for almost a $5 fee. So I said no I wanted to look into it she said I could use the web page an pay. I went to the page and it wants me to pay before seeing a balance or any service data. Plus it's still wants to charge me almost a $5 fee.

Desired Outcome

I would like this business to withdraw these accounts from my credit report. They are running a false business. How can you expect someone to pay anything when they can't physically see the accounts just a verbal say that you own them money....

No response was received by mail or return call from attempts to reach complainant....

Complainant opted to go online to pay and there is a fee (which is charged by the vendor not our company).
1/13/20-We will send copies of all charges. As explained to complainant previously, payment can be made by mail to avoid any convenience fees for paying by credit card.
The accounts were listed with the credit bureau for non payment and well before the complainant's issue with the credit card. Complainant has her representative's direct line and can contact her again to review the payment plan and credit reporting solutions they discussed.

Regarding an issue with a medical bill that I had an appeal on it Anthem who called recently to tell me it was decided in my favor
I have been disputing an invoice with *** imaging. Within the last two weeks I received a call from my insurance company telling me you sure was resolved in my favor. Because it was in my favor I have not thought about it. Today I rehearsed turn home from work and received a telephone call after business hours from an Alabama number. I return the call to find out what they were telling me that I owed. I did not receive an answer to that question instead of Rose at extension 113 hung up on me. I am left to sit here all night concerned about her threat to adversely affect my credit because they will not return my phone calls after they hung up on me and because I cannot get a hold of *** to find out what is going on. To me this is harassment and I want it stopped and I want to guarantee that they cannot adversely affect my credit. This is a secondary company trying to collect a pittance and other peoples difficulties

Desired Outcome

I do not want the company to contact me and I do not want them to have my personal information. How they obtained it I'm sure is underhanded. I want to guarantee that they cannot affect my credit and that it will not be done

This is harassment and unacceptable. I have further taking it up with both my insurance company and the medical facility that supposedly provided this information to them which is in accurate.

Harassing Phone Calls
This company is repeatedly calling my phone. This is a form of harassment and it needs to STOP. I googled the phone number and found out it is a debt collector. I have had to file for my identity being compromised and my social security number has been used. I am in the process of having quite a bit of stuff removed from my credit so there should be no reason why I should be getting bothered by any company like this. But then again this could be why. Either way I am sure it is illegal to constantly call someones phone repeatedly and I want this to stop.

Desired Outcome

I want them to stop calling my phone and leave me alone.

We need additional information in order to identify complainant as the name and address do not match anyone in our system. We will be happy to help with calls if we know the number we are calling. The phone number shown does not match the name in our system.

Have rcvd no official mail or billing invoices of past due balance accounts. No adverse credit reporting by the 3 credit reporting agencies.
Have received numerous calls from this bill collection agency. Some voice messages were left but did not include a point of contact name or account #. Finally, received a call on 11/12/2019 at 9:24AM, from a Mr. *** stating he was from Merchant Adjustment Services, XXX-XXX-XXXX, and this was regarding a debt in collections. I made an attempt to call Mr. back regarding this debt and only receive a voice mailbox. I called MAS's main number and received only a voice mailbox as well. I have left a voice mail and have heard nothing back so far from Mr. or *** I have contacted all medical facility billing agencies I have visited in the last two years and all confirm there is no balance owed. Hopefully, this is a case where someone reported this "so-called" debt in error.

Desired Outcome

Request to know what debt is owed? Who reported the debt? What was the date of service provided? When it was reported? Why it was reported? The amount of the debt in question? Why was no written correspondence ever received from MAS or the complainant?

8/23/19-Mailed notification
9/30 thru 11/12/19-attempts to reach by phone and calls returned but no answer and messages left.
We have verified with provider of service that the balance is due and will mail a copy of the account to complainant.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I will not accept this as a complete solution due to no calls from Mr. or *** have been returned. I still do not have the name of the creditor or amount owed in question. How can I fix something I have no information about? I will await you mailing with that information to the correct billing address of ***, *** FL XXXXX. Any further questions or requested information please call me at XXX-XXX-XXXX and leave a message. I will return your call unlike *** does.

wrong credit reporting
I have no knowledge of this company or alleged debt. I disputed this debt with the credit bureaus and it came back verified I have since then contacted the company and haven't received a response. Where are the documents that your company used to verify that you are reporting these accounts accurately? What is the name of the person in your company who verified the accuracy of this account? What documents did they use to verify them? Please provide me with the name of that individual, their company title, and telephone number as well as copies of the documents that they used to verify that this disputed item are being reported accurately.

Desired Outcome

Delete account from all 3 credit bureaus your company must be willing and able to produce a document in your files that proves the account in dispute belong to me and the information being reported is accurate and you must be able to do this in a court of law if I file a lawsuit against you.

Merchants Adjustment Service Response • Nov 06, 2019

We have discussed all accounts with complainant more than once and unaware there are still questions related to the accounts. Complainant has acknowledged the accounts and has in the past and recently made payments.
We will, however, send copies of the accounts noting the creditors, reason for charges, amounts of payments and current balance. As payments are made, the credit bureau balances are updated. We will report the accounts as disputed with the credit bureau.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
They have no contract that I owe them and they haven't shown proof they are even licensed to collect a debt in my state

Merchants Adjustment Service Response • Nov 07, 2019

We mailed the information same day as complaint and complainant could not have received it yet. We would ask that complainant call us as to the complaint as we have had conversations and payments made during those conversations, verifying acceptance of responsibility of accounts. We will send a copy of our license in complainant's state. We feel we have made an appropriate response to this complaint needs to contact us

Desired Outcome

Merchants Adjustment Service Response • Oct 18, 2019

The account is in the billing stage and we will be glad to assist complainant if she will contact us at the number on the bill. We will follow up with the provider of service to ascertain what insurance was filed and the result.

Very rude collection agency. Wanted to setup a payment plan and yet e lady was judging me and making comments such as "your wife doesn't work?"
When I called to setup a payment arrangement I was told "I can't stretch it out more than 3 months", "you stretch yourself too thin" and "what your wife doesn't work?" None of this is her concern when I just want a payment arrangement and to get this taken care of and yet someone who is supposed to help you and yet they have no idea what is going on medically and so inexcusable. Her last name is ***. After this I don't deserve to be treated this way at all and do deserve something from going through all this and the duress and stress it put me through since a medical bill is stressful enough.

Desired Outcome

Want to get it out of collections and back to to medical company or fix the issue with the woman who mistreated me so badly.

Merchants Adjustment Service Response • Oct 16, 2019

Please supply more info on complainant -- we have no one in our system with this address and no employee named *** - what phone # was called - complainants date of birth/ss# or other info to help identify complainant as this is a common name. thanks

I received a bill for $333.84 with no explanation as to what this bill is for. I've always paid my bills on time and I've never seen this bill before.
This bill appears to be fake. It came in a pre-sort envelope and the bill says it is already in collections. I will not pay anything that I don't have an explanation for and have never seen any other communications from this particular "merchants adjustment service." I looked them up online and saw that there are many complaints to the Revdex.com regarding this company.

Desired Outcome

I want details as to what this bill is for and I would like this bill to be dropped. It seems ridiculous that I get a bill in the mail from a representative called "Mr." for this amount of money with no explanation.

9/12/19-Received account for collection after previous statements sent from provider .....and after explanation from insurance sent to complainant...................
9/13/19- Notification mailed for date of service 7/28/17 to address noted on complaint.
9/26/19--We would be happy to discuss the balances owing if complainant wishes to contact us and will mail today a copy of the bill with provider name, charges and balances after insurance for each charge

A couple of months ago I was tricked into believing that a medical procedure that was paid for by a government grant was delinquent. I was sent invoices by regular mail and told false statements via phone in reference to a delinquent medical bill that I supposedly owed. I believed these people and set up payment arrangements. I was told over the recorded phone call that this bill was not reported to the credit bureau. Last month I checked my credit report and noticed that this company reported this fraudulent account to the credit bureaus. I immediately contacted my attorney who advised me that I was being scammed and that this company was in direct violation of HIPAA. Therefore, I sent a certified letter requesting for validation with competent evidence that I have any legal obligation to pay this account. Instead of receiving validation from this company, I received a personal typed letter with my medical procedures and other private medical information that was protected under HIPAA. There is NO CONTRACT between me and this company. I never signed a HIPAA release form of my medical information to them, therefore by providing such information to me proved that they are in VIOLATION of my HIPAA rights. Their response has also proved that Merchant Adjustment Services is in direct violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 USC 1692g Sec. 809 {b} and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

I will seek legal actions if this company continues to falsely associate me with this fraudulent medical bill. The law is on my side and I will win this one!!

Merchants Adjustment Service Response • Sep 10, 2019

All contact was done according to FDCPA - Since there is no record of a grant, complainant may want to follow up to verify if this charge was related. We would be more than happy to help if there are further questions or concerns.

Customer Response • Sep 10, 2019

This is a lie! You viciously violated my HIPAA rights along with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. I will even prove it. Answer these questions.
Do you have a signed contract from me in reference to this account? Who authorized your company to have my private medical records? Do you have a signed HIPAA release (signed by me) stating that you can legally obtain my private medical records? You mailed me a printout of medical procedures that were performed on me which was obtained from my private medical file. That is illegal because I never signed a HIPAA release form.

I noticed in your reply that you avoided admitting to violating my HIPAA rights. You just skipped that part completely. I demand that you answer ALL my questions above now if you insist on standing by your actions. When you violated my HIPAA rights you violated the FDCPA. So I dare you to explain to me how you were able to LEGALLY obtain my medical records in order to collect a fraudulent debt?

Once again. The law is on my side and I will win this one!!

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I have not received any letter verifying this debt. Additionally I have not spoken to anyone about this debt. This does not verify what this is for. I request a written verification of this debt detailing all charges in an itemized receipt.

Merchants Adjustment Service Response • Jul 15, 2019

7/15/19-We will send another verification of the debt along with a copy of the previous response, to which we have not received returned mail and the letter was sent to the address given on this complaint.
