Metro State is in the process of contacting the student and it is anticipated that his tuition will be refunded. Doug ***
I am rejecting this response because:My medical condition has no cure, and is chronic. Although, it can be controlled, I still experience severe symptoms. Attending Metroploitan State University was just too stressful for me and my symptoms became overwhelming, and I am NO longer attempting courses at Metroploitan State University. Also, if I am required to pay full tuition for only 4 weeks, why wasn't my full award applied to the tution. Instead my financial aid was prorated, as should the tution charges. However, the registration appeal clearly states that if any student experiences extenuating circumstances, he/she has the right to an approved appeal, so I'd rather receive an approved registration appeal than pro-rated charges. Clearly, my condition of chronic paranoid schizophrenia , and its associated symptoms is extenuating. If the registration committee disagrees, then this is a case of discrimination on the basis of disability. Despite my condition, it was NOT my intention to withdraw from the courses, and I truly believed I could complete the courses, so this IS in fact a case of extenuating circumstances. When I started to experience severe symptoms, that is when I knew I had to drop the courses, given my health is more important. As stated, I will NOT be attendign Metroploitan State now, nor in the future, so this will not happen again.
[redacted] submitted a Registration Appeal for Spring Semester 2016 which was approved for a tuition refund and refund of all fees with the exception of the MSUSA (Minnesota State University Student Association) Fee. She then submitted an appeal for her summer registration using the...
same reason as she did for the spring appeal the summer appeal was denied based on it being the same issue. [redacted] received the attached email message after her spring appeal was approved and it states the following: “Extenuating circumstances are classified as un-known and factors out of your control. Repetitive appeals and appeals requested for chronic conditions will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Requests for appeals associated with a chronic condition that continually interfere with a student’s education, may be denied as it is meant for a one-time use to manage unforeseen and extreme circumstances that hinder a student’s education. Students that have chronic illness or other chronic conditions that interfere with their education would benefit from the counseling office or academic support services both are available to discuss managing your coursework and other alternatives to the appeal process.” The denial of her summer appeal stands.
