Hello, my name is [redacted] Owner/operator of Mike’s Car Care Center In Lake Grove Inc.First I would like to state that I never sold him his car. That was a false statement.[redacted] came to my shop requesting an NYS inspection. and for the last three years his car was...

getting in a worst shape than the Previous one. The first time I helped him out and was able “LEGALLY” To get his car to pass, with the knowledge that his car is getting worse Every year. I always advised him that he should buy another car.And told him exactly that the cost of the repairs is much more greater than theValue of his car, and that he is wasting his money. His response was always “I can’t afford to buy another car”. So from there on I truly tried very hard andSometimes I close my facility and get in his car and try and get his monitors Ready so he can get the car inspected. I never perform any work on any of my customers’ cars without their approval.And I always inform them beforehand if they are taking a gamble or not. I have explained to [redacted] that the repairs needed to pass the inspection might escalate to way over a thousand dollars. I didn’t want to do the mechanical repairs that his vehicle needed before I make sure that it’s going to pass the emissions. His car had a misfire, an EGR System failure (EGR system consists of a lot of costly components), a hub bearing and an exhaust system and maybe a new catalytic converter. I asked him if he wants me to clean the clogged EGR system before changing any EGR system parts. And he agreed saying he has noother choice but to do that because he can’t afford to bye another car. So! He agreed that I clean his EGR System. Left me his car and occasionally came to check onit and check the progress because he could not be without a car for the following day.I had some difficulties removing the EGR system apart due to rust and hard to reach Components. It took me over 4.5 hours to complete the job and I showed him the progress and how I did it while his car was apart. But apparently he has no knowledge of what I was doing. I charged him 2.9 hours and that was more than fair for this agonizing job while sincerely praying and hoping that it will pass the emissions test. I always try to educate [redacted] about everything I am doing on his car.And when I’m done explaining he always ask me if he’s going to get the sticker.I told him every time that if his car does not meet the requirement of the emissions and the safety it will not pass NYS inspection. I’m Sorry that He’s disappointed about not getting an inspection sticker and I’m not about to break the low for anyone. He is totally aware that his car is going to need a lot of repairs and it might still not be inspected. “Legally that is”. EGR systems are not cheap to repair. Sometimes it requires a lot of labor. The sad thing is that he saw his car apart and saw me being frustrated while working on it. I am willing to refund him for the gaskets I used from my own stock that I needed to finish the repairs around 7:00 pm where I couldn’t get them from anywhere at that hour. [redacted] has a receipt of the repairs performed on his car. And the total was not $350.00 as he claimed. The invoice was for $300.00. Which was another false claim from his end. [redacted] was driving his car with an expired inspection sticker from over a year and a half.He claimed that he took his car to [redacted] Discount Muffler east of my shop. “He said that they told him that I didn’t perform any work on his car” were his exact words.I told him sorry but I did the work and you saw me doing the work and how deep I was in the repair process. His car was apart, but like I said he is not familiar with the work.He is totally frustrated for not getting an inspection sticker.I am truly sorry about this whole thing.First, I suggested that he should use his money wisely and use it towards buying a safer car.Second, he did not purchase the vehicle from me.And third I’m truly sorry that he was frustrated and disappointed. There was no need for his profanity and swearing. I will refund him the $25.00 I charged him for the gasket and sealing. But I did the work and I truly earned with his approval and full knowledge that it might not be enough for repairs but only a part of the repair needed.I only perform work on my customers’ cars with their consent.Thank you for understanding and for your attention to this matter.Sincerely[redacted].
