Modern Bride & Formal Shop Reviews (4)

For any of my friends that are getting married or are in weddings, I'm writing this so you do not have to experience the hellish ordeal that I just went throughAnyone who knows me, knows I am a curvy gal, and I have always been proud of thatI was asked to be in my dear friend's wedding, so we went to Modern Bride and Formal Shop in Bedford, NH, to be fitted for bridesmaid dresses back in FebruaryWhen I went home with the dress (months later), I tried it on to find out it was too small (not just snug, too small, but never going to zip, too small)I went to my seamstress we tried Spanx, Squeem, and/or trying alteration possibilities, nothing would help to make this fitWhen I called and spoke to Manager and Co-Owner Brian, he suggested I coto see their seamstress that day to see if something could be doneHe explicitly stated that I should come in because he could tell that the measurements they took that day were inches too big to fit into the size dress recommended to me, ordered by his employee that had measured me back in February I went with my mother and we tried on the dress for Brian to seeI then got dressed and after he called over the "seamstress" to see the dress, so I had to put it on againMeanwhile, two of his employees sat off to the side and watched me during this process which made me rather uncomfortableThe Seamstress called over the employee who took my measurements back in February to help her with the zipperI had already sucked in and she kept trying and asking me to suck in more until I finally had to tell her she was hurting meShe kept telling me to just suck in a little more as if I could just magically make it fitThey brought over the other dress I had tried on in February to which the seamstress said they shouldn't have tried to compare the two because even though it was the same makerThe bust on that one came out more and would give me more room unlike the dress I had orderedSo I tried on the dress I had tried on back in February and it still fit the same way it did then Brian kept asking me questions like if I had started working out and building muscle tone, as though maybe this was the reason behind the dress not fittingHe then said clearly, that I had put on weight (which actually according to the scale I had lost weight)He continued to grasp at anything other than actually take responsibility for the fact that the measurements taken that day would not have fit the dress they had orderedI then had to tell him that because of this I could not be in my friend's wedding since it is only a month away and the dress took months to get inThis whole process has been devastating to me The seamstress said she could fix it for me, and instead told me that I would have to pay for alterationsI'm sorry, but why should I pay for their error (especially after embarrassing me like that)? Modern Bride and Formal Shop refused to give me my money back, or alter the dress at their costI went back a few days later to meet with Brian's wife Renee, the other co-owner, only to find out she was the "seamstress" who was helping us with Brian, and never said a word about who she was on the phone or in personI'm now out $and with a dress that does not fit, and left without a suitable bridesmaid dress for my friend's weddingBy far the worst customer service I have ever experienced and I will continue to warn ANYONE I know who is thinking of shopping there #ifyouwantthedresstofitdontdoit #curvygirls #worstcustomerservice#modernbrideofbedfordnh #nevergoingback #aintheardthelastofme

Worst Experience ever! I would not recommend anyone go thereThey measured me and suggested a size, I trusted that the girl knew what she was doingTurns out my measurements were inches too big to fit into the bridesmaid dress I paid 240$ forIt took months to get hereI called the manager and went to see their seamstress they said absolutely no refunds or exchanges and they could repair it BUT I would have to pay for the alterationsI was furious and had never been treated so poorlyThey had three women try and stuff me into a dress that clearly would not fit until I had to tell them they were hurting meThey had me try on the same dress I tried on the day of the fitting and that still fit but they would not take any ownership at allThey were rude and I will never go backI now can not be in my best friends wedding because it is a month away and they refuse to help me

They don't even deserve the one star! This is the worst place I have ever shoppedI went for my wedding dress and they fit me wrong with a dress two sizes too bigThen the first seamstress didn't even know how to fix the dress then the one they call the "head seamstress" altered my dress and messed it all upThe top was still two sizes too big and they shorted my dress where my feet now stuck out and blamed it on me! I went in for fittings and they just continued to blame me for there mistakesI was told I was a lair and that I had a roll in my stomach I don't haveAnd then the head seamstress laughed in my face and was extremely rudeShe didn't once try to fix her mistakes and the manger even was rude to my motherAnd the best part was we were told to never come back after they wouldn't give me my money back and it's only days till my weddingI will be telling everyone to never shop at this horrible storeThey are the nastiest people I have ever metIf you want a good dress and nice people go anywhere else! I went to Davids Bridal and they put me in a dress that fit right off the rack two sizes smaller then this terrible store!

For any of my friends that are getting married or are in weddings, I'm writing this so you do not have to experience the hellish ordeal that I just went through. Anyone who knows me, knows I am a curvy gal, and I have always been proud of that. I was asked to be in my dear friend's wedding, so we went to Modern Bride and Formal Shop in Bedford, NH, to be fitted for bridesmaid dresses back in February. When I went home with the dress (4 months later), I tried it on to find out it was too small (not just snug, too small, but never going to zip, too small). I went to my seamstress we tried Spanx, Squeem, and/or trying alteration possibilities, nothing would help to make this fit. When I called and spoke to Manager and Co-Owner Brian, he suggested I come-in to see their seamstress that day to see if something could be done. He explicitly stated that I should come in because he could tell that the measurements they took that day were 2 inches too big to fit into the size dress recommended to me, ordered by his employee that had measured me back in February.

I went with my mother and we tried on the dress for Brian to see. I then got dressed and after he called over the "seamstress" to see the dress, so I had to put it on again. Meanwhile, two of his employees sat off to the side and watched me during this process which made me rather uncomfortable. The Seamstress called over the employee who took my measurements back in February to help her with the zipper. I had already sucked in and she kept trying and asking me to suck in more until I finally had to tell her she was hurting me. She kept telling me to just suck in a little more as if I could just magically make it fit. They brought over the other dress I had tried on in February to which the seamstress said they shouldn't have tried to compare the two because even though it was the same maker. The bust on that one came out more and would give me more room unlike the dress I had ordered. So I tried on the dress I had tried on back in February and it still fit the same way it did then.

Brian kept asking me questions like if I had started working out and building muscle tone, as though maybe this was the reason behind the dress not fitting. He then said clearly, that I had put on weight (which actually according to the scale I had lost weight). He continued to grasp at anything other than actually take responsibility for the fact that the measurements taken that day would not have fit the dress they had ordered. I then had to tell him that because of this I could not be in my friend's wedding since it is only a month away and the dress took 3 months to get in. This whole process has been devastating to me.

The seamstress said she could fix it for me, and instead told me that I would have to pay for alterations. I'm sorry, but why should I pay for their error (especially after embarrassing me like that)? Modern Bride and Formal Shop refused to give me my money back, or alter the dress at their cost. I went back a few days later to meet with Brian's wife Renee, the other co-owner, only to find out she was the "seamstress" who was helping us with Brian, and never said a word about who she was on the phone or in person. I'm now out $240 and with a dress that does not fit, and left without a suitable bridesmaid dress for my friend's wedding. By far the worst customer service I have ever experienced and I will continue to warn ANYONE I know who is thinking of shopping there.
