Complaint3 contacts with this[redacted] 3 issues of practice. 1: he bought my daughters'car for $500 but managed to not use his own money; he 'bartered' service, as my car (2009 Dodge Journey) needed rear brake service. I was to pay my daughter for my cost and he would pay the difference to her. 2. Except the $200. brake job turned into all 4 axles. He quoted me $710. based on my VIN and his inspection and I agreed to it. 2 days later he calls to say: good news, he misquoted the part prices and was going to save me some money. It would only be $710.00. I reminded him that was his quote, he said "I must have confused you with another woman". I paid $500.to my daughter and $200 to him, as he was doing me a favor for the other 10. When he got the Honda, he told us not date the title, so he could 'save the buyer a few bucks'. We told him we were not comfortable with that, but he insisted it was standard practice. After I got my car back I told him my brakes were squealing, I wasn't happy. He offered to look at the brakes, customer satisfaction. Sunday before the appt my car died it was towed to him. 3. He took 5 days, a lot of research to narrow the problem and replace the TIPM for over 400.then he advised me that he couldn't 'reset' the computer, it requires Chryslers system. I paid him $100. in cash because he couldn't accept debit or credit card. Towed the car to Chrysler where they said the part wasn't installed completely, AND that wasn't the problem. Chrys confirmed both TIPMs work did the repair for $821. I also pd $115 for a rental. I do not feel I should pay for him to replace a part that wasn't broken. So I gave him the returned part so he might sell it back to recover his cost. He should have been able to say up front: This requires Chrysler computer, and I would have paid him for diagnostic and been on my way. I do not feel I should pay for any other irrelevant work he did.Desired SettlementI would have left the situation as is. He deserved a fee for diagnostics. He knew he could not 'flash' the computer system after installing any part. He should have sent me to Chrylser then. so I question each event as not a fluke, but as bad ethics. Did he use 'bait and switch'? Does he replace other irrelevant working parts? Why was he so sly about the car he bought? I am out $115. to rent a car & whatever brake repair. BTW, my front brakes were replaced less than 20K miles earlier.Business Response Hi [redacted] sorry for the long wait but I am a bussy guy,and this case is rather involved.I read the information [redacted] wrote, pulled her ro,s from the files so I could be as persice as possible.[redacted] counts 3 issues but if you read it all she has sub sections to all 3 . I will try to be as percise as possible. 1 . she says I bartered for the Honda, why is that an issue, this is my buisness if I want to trade a brake job for a used car that is my buisness. why give her $ for the Honda, then have her give me the $ right back for the brake job. [redacted] never had any objection to doing it that way, never said a word. 2. Brakes: My helper [redacted] noticed the brake pedal was low, this promped a brake inspection, upon the inspection we noticed that a full 4 wheel brake job was needed. Just like I inform all my customers, the avg. disc brake job ranges from XXX-XXX pr. axle front 2 wheels = 1 axle 2 rear wheels =1 axle, to do all 4 wheels=XXX-XXX.This is what I explained to [redacted], niether one of us ever said anything about $200.00.Tha origional quote was $731.11 then I got a call from my supplyer to inform me thay made a mistake and was $20.00 to high, and the parts forthe brake job was 395.40 instead of 415.40 thus lowering the total by 20.00. Tha vehicle needed a full brake job and was estimated accordingly, yes an error happened not on my end but on the supplyers side, we realized it ,corrected it then explained it , this small problem was handled very proffessionaly. 3. Title: I asked to leave the date open due to several reasons, 1 I needed to get some body work done and did not know how long it would take, the registry charges a penility for the time that passes from when it was last registered to a new regerstration and also my help was interested and we would of been having the same problem, paying more then we need to , we were just trying to save a little $$ thats all! noone was forcing [redacted] she could of said No and I would of respected that! 4. Brake squeel: Two weeks after I did the brakes [redacted] called and informed me her brakes were squeeling. I informeed her that disc brakes do have a common caritaristic that is a light squeel sometimes , but with that said I still offered to take a look and see if there is something I might be able to do, so we made an appointment. the next day the starter issue became priorty #1 and I never got the oppertunity to look at the squeeking brakes.NoStart problem: I spent approx. 6.0 hrs diagnosing this odd problem, [redacted] may not realize it but this was alot more than a starter problem it also had no power on about half of the electrical circuits, was she aware that the wipers were affected , the radio did not work ,m the heater and AC were also involved , finally I decided to replace the TIPM (fuse box) and I was very confident that was it . So I replacedthe box not realizing that it would need to be programed , in 40+ years I never seen or evan heard of a fuse box that needed tto be programmed this was a first. I work on forien and domestic vehicles and it is impossible for me to stay current on all and every vehicle made.I would have to spend most of my time in school and would never have time to work . I found out buy doing my homework and consulting w/ [redacted] said I should of said that it needed to be programmed, yes I should of , only if I knew it at that time, I found out a short time latter! How can I know the electronic designs of every vehicle made IMPOSSIBLEThere was no deception or intentional misleading at all, I pride my self in my honesty and fairness and can back that up w/ my meny faithfull customers. Her assumption that I already knew is not only wrong but is an insult to my integraty , standards and values.please alow me to defend my self from more bad assumptions, this woman has attacted me personnaly and I will defend myself~!bad ethics where and when did that happen please explainbait and switchwhen and where please explaindo I replace not needed parts NO and when did that happen ?why was I sly what in the world does that mean?? I must confess I am confused, [redacted] had a bill for $426.00, she paid 100.00, exactly what she asked for then after I grant her wish she desides to attact me proffesionly and personally. I wish her the best , Double ASE Master Tech, Mass licenced vocational instructor, 12 major awards from GM and 45 years exp. [redacted] ServicesStephen McGaffiganConsumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I agree with the final outcome, since he NOW states that he will not charge me for the balance. However, I have some contention with the following items: 1. He states we had come to an agreement (he doesn't understand why I contacted Revdex.com). The last thing he yelled at me as I walked out of his shop was "I'll see you in court". I am pretty sure that is not any kind of an agreement, and in no way does that "Grant my wish";2. According to the [redacted], the part he replaced not only wasn't the right part, it wasn't even installed completely, and they spent upwards of an hour just putting the car back together, prior to running the computer query.Every symptom he mentions is entirely addressed by the key module (Not the fuse box) due to a 'kill' function in the module (to prevent car theft, I think). 3. I then discovered my engine cover had not been sent with the car. I had to go back to [redacted] to retrieve the part.which was sitting right there. I addressed this issue with Revdex.com because he had stated he would see me in court. I don't go around not paying my bills, and I was worried he might dunn me for the balance. Now I have documentation that the bill is settled. As for the other items I brought up, I feel that there is evidence of a pattern of less than straight forward business practices. I have no expectation of any further action on the Revdex.com part, nor (for that matter) on Mr. McGaffigans' part. Good business will follow him, or not, based on how he conducts business in the future. He will have no further business from me, or my friends. That is how good will and right actions work. Thank you, to Revdex.com for hearing my side, and thank you to Mr. McGaffigan for responding.
