Review: Approximately July 29th, 2013, I requested by phone the help of Mr. [redacted] to come and repair my Toshiba (Windows 7) computer. I called him because my priest recommended him for helping him. I told him I had a coupon from a Aerea/Senior magazine for a "$50 off" rebate on the usual price. He agreed to accept it.

He got lost (couldn't find the house) on the day we were to meet. We rescheduled for 5 Aug. after 5:00pm, and worked for over 1hr - he charged me $150.00 for 2hrs, $75.00 per hr. But said "I'm going to take it home and fix it" and left. After 5 days latter, he called and said it was fix and he would deliver it. That day, I payed him $150.00 by check #XXXX (X-X-XX). When he delivered, it was a problem with shut off he said it was normal and left.

I told him the problems, he was unable to fix it so I could get on line. He gave me an alternative, called "Google Chrome" to use. It too did not work. He then told me: you don't know how to use a computer. I just had finished a computer class at Hart Senior Center and had received my certificate diploma. He also tried to reinstall my yahoo, it didn't work either. He became extremely obnoxious and said that he had spent to much time (hrs) on my computer and he would not come to my house again.

He gave me a headache with all his yelling, screaming on the phone about me not being able to follow his instructions. He wants $150.00 to work on it again.

Despite not fixing my computer, I would like to say that he was verbally abusive to me. I told him in our final conversation, to please calm down and to call back when he was calm. That was over 2 or 3 weeks ago. He has yet to call.

I feel that he has defrauded me of the cost of repair, that was never done. He deprived me of my property for over a month. He has been abusive to me, a "senior citizen" when I tried to question him about my computer and it's repair. Yes, my native language is Spanish. I'm told my English is very understandable so I do not think that that was the problem. It's my wish that he refund my payment of $150.00 as the computer still isn't working or repaired properly.

As an American senior citizen, I feel that I have not been treated either justly or fairly (as I told the transcriber of this letter). His advertising is deceptive as it is neither fast nor friendly.Desired Settlement: Refund

Initial Business Response

I worked for over 3 hours trying fix his issue I wouldn't have to charge him more. Per hour phone conversation I did honor the coupon however what I had advised it there was virus causing the problem that would be the cost. The coupon was for one issue and one issue only. There was a virus and I cleared it. There was still an issue with much of the hardware not work like the use ports. I advised that this was not from virus and that the drive would need to be formatted and the operating system would need to be installed to fix the other problems. This is normally a charge of 350.00 dollars. Because he is a Senior Citizen I only charged him another 75 dollars.

I advised him that it would works good as it did coming off the shelf. I advised him that I would about 5 days as I was already booked for the week.

He said no problem. As per the problem with machine won't turn issue. He was having a problem understanding that system goes to sleep mode. It does not turn off. If he is having a problem with this concept that really question the computer diploma thing and the school that he went that he should be trying to get his money from. I went back to his home and brought the computer back. It was working great. We were not at that time able to test internet because he did not yet have it turned back on. He asked me who he could call to get internet. I advised hm to go with Net Zero as he was on a budget. He called stating that He can't cant get the internet working with equipment form net zero. This was not a part of my service to him based on the initial call and again because he is a SENIOR CITIZEN I offered to come out again free of charge and got it up and running.

I came out was able to get it and running. He had his old router still connected and causing issue with net zero connection. Internet was working. Yahoo was working. Yahoo mail was not. There was a problem because he cancelled account with att. This cancelled his email. This is why it was not working. Again, a new and chargeable issue and again do I charge? Nope, Becasue he is a SENIOR I setup a new yahoo email account for him

I was not able to get it work for some reason. I tried it with Google Chrom and it worked fine. He was okay with that when I left. I advised there must an issue with yahoo and IT and I would research. He called aging saying he was not heppy with more service. REALLY over 600 dollars of discounted work becasue he is a senior. I was able to remote in and actaully get his Yahoo mail working perfectly.

He then calls again about 3 weeks later again "I am not happy with you service"

This the breaking point for me. I let him no that I was not pleased that after all I had done for him, basically gratis he had the nerve again to tell me he was not happy with my service. I still proceeded to help him starting a remote support session. We were not able to start one. He described to me what he was seeing. I was able to figure out that he was hit another virus. At this point no more freebees. I was not able to make this customer happy no matter what. We now have different and chargeable issue and stated that if wanted me to remove the Virus at 75 dollars, still the the discounted rate!!!. I still tried to connect for free and could not get him to cooperate. All he had to do was type in "www.mycompit.com" We did this a dozen time and each time it was like pulling teeth. He acted like it was the first time typing in every time. I finaly figured out I was being played and became very irritated and I did let him know that I did not appreciate what he was doing. I was loud about it admittedly however understand my frustration.

I decided to cut my losses and not move forward with this customer. He asked me to call him when I was calmer.. Not going to happen.

Shame on him for playing Senior card after what I did for him

Remember who refereed me to him PRIEST.

I also forgot to mention here that on the first two visits I programmed his remote for his tv and vcr. I also had to train hinm on these again no charge.

I have no intention of doing business with customer again. He can take his computer to Bestbuy where even if he gets a senior discount which I doubt He will be paying much more than I charge for him the SENIOR

Final Consumer Response

I have read and understand the response to my complaint against MyCompIT.

After reading the attached advertisement I hired MyCompIT to make my personal computer (PC) operational for a $150.00 charge.

MyCompIT's diagnosis of my PC was too involved for them to repair in two (2) hours for $150.00, therefore I should not have been charged when they could not fulfill their advertised obligation.

My PC was returned to me and was not operational and was not repaired to my satisfaction, yet I was charged $150.00, which I paid.

My PC is still non-operational. MyCompIT did not fulfill their advertised obligation. I was improperly charged. Therefore, I request a refund of my $150.00.

Final Business Response

Customer paid me the 150.00 because he was satisfied. It was fully functional minus the internet connection because it was turned off. There was no was no way to test. The initial problem was the usb ports and other hardware were not working. My ad states that there was a 50 dollar discount which honored but that is per service. Upon diagnosing the system I determined that not only was there virus issue there multiple operating system issues. This would require much more time\labor This ended up taking me 4 hours to repair. I charge 125 an hours. His discount brought him to 75 per hour and I only charges him for 2 hours at the dicounted rate because he is a "Senior Citizen". I brought the system back fully functioning. On my recommendation he purchase an internet plan from net zero. He was not able to get new provider internet to work. I tried my best to help him over the phone and decided to just drive out and get it setup. I did so only to find out that he had his old router setup and that was causing the new internet not to work. I got it up and running and charged him nothing because he is a senior. The issue the customer is having is a new virus that is a result of his internet usage. This is new issue and is chargeable and I expect to be paid. I even willing to do it at the discounted rate. 75.00 dollars. That is the only way this will get resolved.
