NY Budget Movers Reviews (22)

The absolute worst experience I have ever had in my life dealing with a business. It was a classic bait and switch move by the company, to the worst extent imaginable. They promised a low price with a binding contact to which I chose over the other companies. The woman I dealt with assured me that the reason it was lower is because of a special deal she was offering for that time of year.

Every interaction was difficult. From getting the emails and contract she promised, to sending of the Certification of Insurance which I had requested and she had promised that it was simple and part of the process. She insisted that everything was included and that there would be no additional charges.

The day of the delivery, hours before it was supposed to be delivered, was on a Saturday afternoon. She informed me that the quote had doubled: from $1600 to $3200; and that I had to pay cash upon delivery. Since it was in the afternoon on Saturday and no banks were open, ATM limits weren't high enough, and I was given absolutely zero notice regarding the cash only "policy", I did not have that amount of cash available. After debating and debating the charges she just said that there was nothing she could do because "she wasn't at the truck"...although the company in whole had promised me the price and promised there would be no additional charges. I was completely exhausted by dealing with this conversation and just wanted my belongings. I said I would dispute the charges but needed all of my things since I was moving that day.

She refused to take any payment on credit card, debit card, check, or any other method I said I could easily use. She demanded that I get money in cash or my things would not be delivered. I begged and pleaded different ways this could be handled. I had to call the police department to see what I could do about my stuff being held hostage. It was the most miserable experience I have ever dealt with in any company. They held all of our belongings hostage for 3 days until the banks opened and then they could staff someone to bring my things. They tried to charge me the cost for storage and extra delivery!

I can't say enough awful things about dealing with this company. It is truly a criminal operation in which they are running. I would guess they put down in their financial books the amount the quote to customers, and then pocket the other half under the table. It was an incredibly terrible experience and I would hate to see another person going through this. I have done research on this company and it appears this is their standard way of operating and dealing with their customers.

Review: I received many estimates for a move and gave a brief description of the articles that needed to be moved from NJ to SC. Most ranged from $1050-$1400. I chose one in the middle that had no complaints filed with the "[redacted]". I chose NY Budget Movers that Gave me an estimate of $1322.50. I explained to [redacted] that There was a long flight of stairs and a long hall to the apartment and I needed to make sure there was not an extra charge for this as the person moving had mental challanges and I had to send him with the precise money to pay them. So first after they loaded the truck they informed me my bill was $3043, more than twice the original estimate. Then when the articles delivered thaey wanted another $155 for the long hall haul, and then had the nerve to ask where his tip was. I feel like it was a total bait and switch type set up where they lure you in with a price and then say well you had so much more than you said. I would hope a moving company has a pretty good idea how much space a one BR apt take up. Then included was all these packing charges $115 for tape ( I couldn't believe haow much tape they were using til I saw the charge, box over box @$35/box +$10 packing per box). I did get them to remove the tape charge but honestly more than twice the estimate, and then cash on the spot. They showed up 2 hours late with 2 guys instead 3.It took my whole day and then were nasty when I was upset with the price and hung up on me when I told them the $155 was waived by [redacted](who conveniently wasn't on that day)This is a Consumers nightmare, how can one budget and pull $2000 out of thin air? or not have their belongings unloaded.Desired Settlement: I can understand it may have been a few hundred $ more as I had more boxes than originally stated but only clothes that they made me unpack from the drawers.I think they should have been more upfront with there billing practices before they arrived to move and made me sign blank papers before they would start,a little late to change plans And definitely as I had questioned them specifically on the stair and length from the truck to the apt door and told don't worry about it,$155 like refunded.
