Installed gutters. Incorrect location on downspouts A patch was installed to cover a hole. Called to have replaced & done correctly with no responseStarted with a promised date that missed by 3 weeks. Went over the job specifically with gutters and location of the downspouts. Wanted downspouts on the gable side of the house both front and back so they wouldn't be seen and for water run off purposes and they were installed in the front and rear not on the gable ends. Asked him to fix it and after 3 postponements he arrived to fix it. When I arrived home I noticed that the downspouts were moved to the correct location but a patch was installed on a brand new gutter in the rear and it looks like [redacted]. If it were his home that would have never happened. I called again in the fall to have him come out to replace the gutter leaving a message on his answering machine and as I expected after they have their money, no return call. He did a good job on the roof but roofers are not gutter installers and the workmanship proved it. All I want is a replacement gutter without holes and patches and no screws showing through the bottom of the gutter which I was also told secures the outlet tube. you don't need screws I the outlet tube once its fitted into the hole cut out for the downspout. At this point either refund the money back for the rear gutter so I can have a professional install a new one or pay to have someone install it. I do not want a roofer installing the new gutter.Desired SettlementAt this point either refund the money back for the rear gutter so I can have a professional install a new one or pay to have someone install it. Also make sure it's .032 gauge and not .027 I will know the difference.Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted]Contact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXXContact Email: [redacted]I was contacted by [redacted] at the Worcester Home Show and was requested to develop an estimate to replace the roof. When I met at their house I was introduced to Mr. [redacted]. It is unclear if he is her boyfriend or her husband. When doing the estimate, they asked if I could replace the gutters. The chimney was in bad condition as well so I told them I could take care of all of these items. When the work was completed, [redacted] paid for the roof work and the chimney work. She explained to me that Mr [redacted] was supposed to pay me for the gutters and that he had some issues with the installation of the gutters. All the work had been completed at this point. He had not been present when the work was performed. When contacted for payment, he said that he had asked for the downspouts to be installed on the gable ends of the building. To the best of my knowledge I did not recall receiving any specific direction as to where the downspouts were to be installed, so we put the downspouts in the same location the old gutter system downspouts were installed. Mr. [redacted] demanded we move the downspouts onto the gable end of the split level house. I explained we could do this, but that this would require moving the downspout on the rear of the building over approximately a foot and there would need to be a piece of metal installed to cover the downspout opening where the downspout had originally been installed. This was completed approximately a week after the roof was installed and Mr. [redacted] paid me the remaining balance. The roof was paid for on June 18 th and the gutter work payment was received on June 25. I received one call to my office voice mail in November demanding a new gutter or monetary compensation. I did not respond to Mr. [redacted] because I specifically explained the need to move the downspout opening if he really wanted to move the downspout and that would mean there would be a hole covered with metal and sealed where the downspout had been originally installed. So I moved the downspout over and he paid me approximately a week letter. Further, he negotiated the very lowest price for the job. The roof was completed for 4860$ for a 15 square split or $320/sq plus 60$ to repoint the chimney. Both front and back gutters, along with 4 downspouts were installed for $427. The materials for the gutters cost $304.46. It was surprising to me to receive this call five months after the job was completed. You would think that the job was completed. There was a specific problem that rose to the level of seriousness that the customer withholds money until corrections are made. Those corrections are completed, and payment is received. Then almost 6 months later he comes back at me for a full reimbursement? I am willing to submit to binding arbitration to settle this. I would even be willing to replace the gutter in question if he paid the 80$ to have a new section rolled out. I could strip off the old hangers and we could be done with the whole affair, but I am unwilling to pay him money or replace the gutter for free as he is seeking.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)For the simple fact that I specifically walked around the house with him and pointed out where I wanted the downspouts installed and he conveniently can't recall. Although he can recall telling me there would be a patch in the gutter after after I was dissatisfied with the job! There wasn't any negotiation in the price, the price was the price I thought was fair to begin with. I never paid the full balance after the repair, [redacted] did. When we looked at the downspouts in the relocated position it was never discovered that there was a patch until I was on the roof cleaning out the leaves in the gutter and sliced my finger from the exposed screws on the inside of the gutter. The fact is the job was originally done incorrectly after specific instructions and his solution is a hideous looking patch. I guaranty you he would never accept that on his home. All I want is for him to honor his 100% warranty on workmanship and labor which now comes into question. We are not paying a dime more for his mistake. If it can't be resolved with a new gutter which is the right thing to do if it's only $80 then I will move onto consumer affairs. All I ask is just please do the right thing!Final Business Response I also want to add, that in the 25 years of being in business doing roofing and exterior home improvements, I have had two complaints filed against me. The first was approximately 15 years ago and involved a customer who wanted to get his roof completed by a specific date and I was not able to perform the work in that time frame and he wanted his $100 deposit returned, which I promptly did return and the complaint was put to rest. The second is Mr. [redacted], who is the first person to question my professionalism, my honesty, and my integrity in the 25 years I have been in business.
