On 3/8/2017 around 9:30PM I had to drive downtown to 201 poplar to dispute a ticket that was placed on my car outside of my work, the description was a chevy malibu, when I drive a 2010 mazda 6. BIG difference. But anyhow, I found a $5 for three hour parking lot just to run in and dispute this ticket that took no more than 20 minutes all together. After paying to park, I come outside to a boot on my tire. The company was pb&j towing. I instantly broke down in tears considering I was already completly scared for my life because of the area, and I wanted to hurry and leave, must less a BOOT on my tire for parking? When I called the number, the man was SOO RUDE! The man who appears to be named Billy, told me to stop crying he didnt want to hear it.. then he said either pay me $125 or get someone to come get you. I was extremly confused on what I had did wrong. I thought it was legal to park in a city parking lot.. Spechally after PAYING to park there for 15 minutes! I would like recommendations for the best lawyer for a case like this. I had a friend that worked for this exact company and even stated himseld their nothing but the biggest SCAM in memphis, he also staetd this company tows and boots peoples cars 24/7 for no reasons. He was also shocked that their still in business and told me I need to hire a lawyer immediately. If there's anything I could do about this I would really like a respose before I got furthure with hiring a lawyer.

Excuse me 9:30AM*

PB&J Towing placed a parking boot on my son's truck after setting him up to not pay for parking in a downtown Memphis garage. On May 13, 2016, my son [redacted] was attending his prom in the Cadre Building located at 149 Monroe Avenue, Memphis, TN 38103. This was his first trip to downtown Memphis and was unfamiliar with the area. We drove the route the day before to become familiar with the trip and where to park. There is a parking garage next to the Cadre Building which had valet parking that night we were assessing the area. I explained he needed to check with them when he arrives the next day to pay for parking. He arrives to the parking garage on May 13th and there was a guy in a red shirt and hat at the garage did not take any money and told him to "just go park." [redacted] did not pay anyone at that time and went to the prom. As he left the prom around 2300, they found a boot on his truck tire. There was a phone number on the boot ([redacted]) to call. I called the number and the guy was rude immediately. I explained the situation to the guy on the phone. He was completely intolerant of our situation. He hung up on me and when I called back, he explained he was 16 or 17 when he went to prom and "figured it out on his own" alluding my son is ignorant. I asked multiple times if he can get the boot off without paying and he said we violated the law. I would argue the valet parking people did not handle the situation on the front end. After multiple calls, I told the guy to send someone to get the boot off my son's truck. My son said the same guy who told him "just go park" and did not take his money was the one who removed the boot from his truck tire. This was a cash only transaction. This is a scam. The number I called is associated with 'PB&J Towing" but the receipt my son received was from "Risk Management."Desired SettlementThis fee for this was $125. I want a full refund. Business Response As usual, PB&J thanks the Revdex.com for bringing this complaint to our attention for review and response. With regard to this complaint, it is really difficult to answer these foolish allegations. First and foremost PB&J did not, and does not, set people up to have their vehicle booted. PB&J is a towing company which operates solely in "towing" vehicles, not immobilizing vehicles. Risk Management Booting Company engages in booting vehicles. So this prevaricator needs to get his facts correct. Upon reading and investigating this intelligent consumer's complaint, PB&J discovered that his son engaged in a conversation with the valet parking personnel for the Rendezvous BBQ Restaurant who told the young man that he could park in the garage (known as Hope Garage); where the young man parked and left his vehicle without paying the requisite parking fee. Neither Central Parking, who owns the garage, nor Risk Management employs valets to park vehicles in the Hope Garage. So, once again, this uninformed father is lying. He also phoned PB&J's office demanding information about why his son's vehicle was booted. He was arrogant and belligerent to our staff and this is something we will not tolerate from anyone. I personally spoke with this father and he was more concerned about his son being seen as ignorant than he was about his son not paying to park in the garage like every other responsible citizen does. The fact of the matter is that his son did park in the garage of his own volition, did not pay to park there despite the many signs that instruct payment, and he was booted. If his son was as intelligent as he taunts, his son should have read and obeyed the signs. As for the alleged rudeness of the booting manager he spoke with, perhaps he should go back and assess his own conduct. As stated herein above we will not tolerate disrespect from anyone toward our staff. Our staff are always professional and courteous but under no circumstances will they allow themselves to be verbally assaulted or belittled by anyone. Finally, it is inconceivable to us why the Revdex.com would even entertain this complaint. The father was clearly not the driver of the vehicle, but rather his son. The father therefore has not right or standing to bring this complaint.

This company towed our car from our driveway and did not report it to the police in Memphis as being towed. We thought it had been stolen and had already contacted our insurance company. He took it from an area he was not even authorized to be in!! Then would not return it to our daughter and made us bring the title or said he would not give it back! He was rude beyond belief and would only take cash and made us go down the street to an ATM to get it. He had no right to take a car from our driveway and then holds it ransom until you meet his demands!!! He has tons of complaints on him and I can't believe he is allowed to do this to people. It is a big scam and he runs around towing random cars for no reason. He should be shut down and arrested for stealing cars. He charged us for 2 days storage and only had the car less than 12 hours and a towing fee $155Desired SettlementWe want our money back and this business shut down for illegal business practices!!Business Response PB&J appreciates and thank the Revdex.com for bringing this complaint to our attention. Although PB&J is not a member of the Revdex.com and therefore does not have to respond to complaints filed with your agency PB&J does so out of respect for the Revdex.com and the service it provides to the public at large. With regard to the instant complaint: PB&J categorically denies that it towed this, or any vehicle, without first notifying MPD. Also, PB&J denies that it towed this, or any vehicle, from a property PB&J was not authorized to tow from. PB&J admits that its employee told the complainant that they had to produce some form of documentation demonstrating ownership of the vehicle in question. Current law requires that persons whose vehicle has been towed must show "proof of ownership" when attempting to recover a vehicle. This is ths same prerequisite the the MPD city lot requires of persons seeking to retrieve vehicles from the MPD city lot. So PB&J does not deny that the dsughter had to provide this documentation prior to having the vehicle released. Next, PB&J avers that it did not over-charge this person. Pursuant to the current city ordinance governing towing, the towing fee is set, by the city council, at $125.00 dollers. If a vehicle is not paid out within two (2) hours of the tow, the owner has to pay thirty ($30.00) dollars storage for that day. The complaint states that they were charged $155.00 dollars to get their vehicle back. The owner was not charge for two (2) days storage but rather for one (1) day storage at $30.00. This is not, therefore, an overcharge but rather ignorance on the part of the vehicle owner. With regard to remaining allegations, PB&J will not dignify such foolish with a response. PB&J is a non-consent towing agency and as a result we encounter a lot of people who are ignorant about the towing laws, and who come to our facility in an irate and belligerent manner. They are upset that their vehicle has been told and they curse and scream at our staff. Our staff will remain professional as much as possible, but under no circumstance will our staff accept disrespectful conduct from anyone. Finally, the complainant states that PB&J towed their vehicle from "an area he was not authorized to be in," and "from our driveway," PB&J respectfully request the complainant produce evidence to support this allegation. This complaint is like most the Revdex.com receives regarding PB&J, and as usual, the complainant never provides relevant information such as: date of the tow, location of the tow or the identification of the vehicle towed. The absence of such does nothing to ensure a further appropriate response from PB&J. That being said: PB&J once again thank the Revdex.com for bringing this matter to our attention and affording us the opportunity to respond thereto. Thank you,Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)In response to the towing company, I would like to state clearly that this car was in our driveway. The front of the car was almost touching the garage door! It is in a lot not associated with PB&J towing. We have 3 witnesses that saw the car in the drive and are willing to give statements to that account. It was a completely illegal tow. When we contacted the police they said it was not reported as being towed and that is illegal. Also, according to other tow companies, you are supposed to photograph the car that is being towed and show it parked illegally and you are also supposed to report it to the police before you hook to it. None of this happened. When we asked how he got our car from the drive he would not explain how they towed it. It had to be pulled from behind and spun around, all of this can cause damage to the transmission. To sum this up, just look at the massive number of complaints against this company and that shows a pattern of this type of behavior. We are not the only ones out there. You cannot just drive around and steal peoples cars and take them for no reason. This car was 100 % absolutely parked legally and should have never been touched.Final Business Response I have received and read your request for the document signed by Mr. [redacted] authorizing the towing of the [redacted] vehicle. I was in the process of sending that to you when I was instructed by our attorney not to do so. Apparently Mr [redacted] has filed other complaints with other agencies and it has now become a legal mess. PB&J will have no further comment or participation in this matter filed by Mr. [redacted] with the Revdex.com. Thank you.

Car towed after rear view mirror fell off. This company's total lack of scrupples and moral business practices is an absolute outrage. I've been a resident of my apartment complex for over 4 years and have always parked in the same area, right in front of my apartment. This week while driving thru Bartlett my car hit a pothole so severe that my rear view mirror fell off. On that mirror were the stickers allowing parking in the apartments. I am a disabled senior citizen and can't make quick repairs to my old car but I had no worry about being towed since I had lived there so long and it was obvious the mirror had fallen off. Wrong. PBA & J snatched my car the 2nd night. I complained to the management company and they got the charges dismissed but I still had to arrange for someone to drive me downtown today to retrieve my car. PB&J should have brought the car back to me. Now I notice my right front tire is going down and it was fine before the tow. These folks are crooks. They will take any questionable tow knowing most of us don't have the money to hire an attorney and sue them. And our city council does nothing to protect us.Desired SettlementThey owe me $180 for my time and effort to retrieve my car and get my tire fixed.Business Response PB&J would like to extend its gratitude to the Revdex.com for bringing this issue to our attention for reply. It is precisely complaints like the one Mr. [redacted] has filed here that make it difficult to stay professional. Mr. [redacted] states that he hit a pothole so severely that it knocked his rear view mirror off. Instead of simply taking the mirror and laying it on the dash of the vehicle, where it and the parking permit would have been visible, he just layed the mirror down somewhere in the vehicle. It is obvious that Mr. [redacted] knew that the parking permit was to be visible at all times, yet he ignored this information and chose to subject his vehicle to being towed. Now that the vehicle has been towed all of a sudden PB&J lacks business and moral scruples. Aditionally, Mr. [redacted] is alledging that PB&J caused damaged to his tire. Now he makes this allegation after clearly telling the Revdex.com that "...while driving thru Bartlett my car hit a pothole so severe that my rearview mirror fell off." Now common sense dictates that if a driver hits a pothole in the manner Mr. [redacted] describes the impact would have a profound effect upon the tire as well. It may have bent the rim or even punctured the tire itself. At any rate, when Mr. [redacted] came to get his vehicle it was not on a flat when he drove it off our lot; nor was it on a flat when it was towed into our lot. In short, PB&J caused no damage to Mr. Glissons' vehicle or tire. As for our giving the vehicle back at no charge: this was done as a courtesy to the property owner who is very well acquainted with a PB&J company executive. The return of the vehicle to Mr. [redacted] was for that reason and that reason alone. PB&J, once again, would like to thank the Revdex.com for bringing this complaint to our attention.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)PB&J enjoys a long history of complaints filed with the BBS. Calling themselves professionals when everyone else in Memphis considers them to be the armpit of towing companies is ridiculous. Their business model preys upon the poor, the weak, the old, the forgetful and they make a boatload of money doing it. I also wonder how much they kick back to the owner of this property? I stand by my claims and expect action.Final Business Response It would appear that Mr. [redacted] has become upset that his attempt to extort PB&J has proven unsuccessful. By his own admission he hit the pothole and cause damage his vehicle and now wishes to blame PB&J for it. Since that trick didn't wash Mr. [redacted] now seeks to verbally assault PB&J with a ridiculous tirade. Quite frankly PB&J is amazed that the Revdex.com sent his rebuttal to us for a reply. As PB&J stated in its initial response to this complaint: Mr. [redacted]'s vehicle tire was not flat when it as towed to our lot, nor was the tire flat when Mr. [redacted] drove it off our lot; and Mr. [redacted] makes no claim to the contrary. Rather, he takes to childish insults for which this company will not dignify with a response. This will end PB&J's participation in this matter.

My car was towed from Peppertree Apts illegally I had a green parking permit on my windshield and the tow truck man tore up my passenger door to open it removed my sticker and then wiped my windshield clean like it was never a sticker there little do he know I had the sticker somewhere before I moved it to that spot so he didnt think to wipe that spot I just want my 155.00 plus the damages to my door","neg-1

+1

We have an apartment complex and I fully appreciate what Patrick and his company go through. I know they don't get enough credit for the work they do.
PB&J patrols our parking lot for cars that shouldn't be there, cars that are leaking fluids (ruining our parking lot), and even run off unsavory characters in the middle of the night!
If you have a business or lot that needs attention that you cannot always give, I would highly recommend PB&J. We have been working with them for years.
They have a hard job. I'd be willing to bet that 95% of the people who they deal with are really upset and/or rude. I appreciate the professionalism of Patrick and the other towers. They have a dangerous job and they are completely under appreciated.
I hear people complaining about "illegal towing", but it is only because they do not know the rules or do not care to abide by the rules. I have never had an issue with PB&J and the towing they do for us is NOT illegal -- on the contrary, it is completely legal and THAT'S why we work with PB&J.","pos-1

THIS COMPANY DID NOT PROVIDE A RECEIPT FOR A BOOT THAT WAS PLACED ON MY CAR AND THE PERSON WHO ANSWERES THE PHONE IS RUDE AND CURSED ME OUT.ON 02/22/16 I PARKED MY VEHICLE ON THE STREET OUTISDE OF THE PARKING GARAGE LOCATED AT 245 WASHINGTON STREET. I WAS INFORMED BY A COWORKER THAT A BOOT WAS PLACED ON MY TRUCK. MY VEHICHLE IS A 2012 DODGE RAM. WHEN I CALLED THE NUMER THAT WAS ON THE STICKER THAT WAS PLACED ON MY WINDOW I SPOKE TO A MALE WHITE WHO WAS VERY RUDE. HE BEGAN TO QUESTION ME AND ASK WHAT KIND OF CAR DID I HAVE AND WHERE WAS I PARKED. HE THEN SNAPPED AND CURSED ME OUT AND TOLD ME HE WAS ON THE PHONE AND TO CALL BACK AND HE DISCONNECTED. I CALLED HIM BACK AND HE WAS VERY RUDE AND DEGRATING TO ME. HE EVEN TOLD ME THAT HE WOULD HAVE ME STAND OUTSIDE FOR AS LONG AS HE WANTED TO. BY THE TIME I CAM OUTSIDE I HAD THE POLICE TO MEET ME SO THERE WOULDNT BE ANY DISTURBANCE. ANOTHER DRIVER CAME AND REMOVED THE BOOT FROM MY VEHICLE BUT HOWEVER HE HAD ME SIGN A PAPER BUT DID NOT GIVE ME A RECEIPT. WHEN ASKED WHY A BOOT WAS PLACED ON MY VEHICLE HE STATED I WAS BLOCKING THE ENTRANCE TO THE PARKING GARAGE THAT IS OWNED BY PREMIER PARKING. I WAS NO WHERE NEAR THE ENTRANCE AND I WAS STILL ON THE CITY STREET. PB&J TOWING DOES NOT OWN THE STREET. IF THIS IS A LEGIT BUSINESS THEY ARE OPERATING THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ISSUE ME A RECEIPT. ALSO WHEN I CALLED OVER THE PHONE TO CHECK THE PRICE OF THE BOOT THE MW KENNETH TOLD ME THAT I BETTER HAVE EXACT CHANGE. IT STATES ON THE STICKER THAT THE BOOT IS CHEAPER THAN TOWING THE VEHICLE AND THAT IS ALSO INCORRECT. IT ONLY COSTS 40 BUCKS TO TOW A VEHCILE. I PAID A MALE BLACK OCCUPYING A GREEN PICK UP TRUCK WITH NO LOGOS $125 CASH. FOR ALL I KNOW THEY COULD BE RUNNING A SCAM. I JUST THINK THEY ARE VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND THEY WERE JUST LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO SCAM OUT OF MONEY. I HAVE WORKED DOWNTOWN FOR 9 YEARS AND ALWAYS PARK ON THE STREET IN FRONT OF THE GARAGE. I HAVE PICTURES OF SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES THAT ACTUALLY BLOCK THE ENTRANCE AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT THOSE VEHICLES. I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM SOMEONE REGARDING THIS COMPLAINT. THEY ARE RIP OFFS AND CON ARTIST IN MY OPINION.Desired SettlementI JUST FEEL I WAS A VICTIM OF A SCAM. CONSUMERS HAVE RIGHTS AND I FEEL THEY TAKE ADVANTAAGE OF HARDWORKING CONSUMERS. IT'S POLICE CARS AND OTHER VEHCLES PARKED IN THE SAME SPOT ALL DAY AND THERE IS NOT A BOOT PLACED ON THOSE VEHICLES. I FEEL I SHOULD GET A REFUND. I ALSO FEEL ANYTIME A COMPANY IS CHARGING MONEY FOR BOOTS THEY SHOULD PROVIDE THE CUSTOMER WITH A RECEIPT FOR I.R.S. PURPOSES. HOW ELSE CAN THE COMPANY PROVE HOW MUCH MONEY THEY ARE MAKING.Business Response First and foremost PB&J is a towing company, not a booting company. PB&J does "tow" from several parking lots in downtown Memphis and elsewhere. So the fact that Ms. [redacted] is accusing PB&J of scamming her is absurb. Booting is conducted by another company. Ms. [redacted] should get her facts straight before making such outlandish prevarication against PB&J.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I don't need to get any facts straight. The fact of the matter is you are demanding cash money for a service without providing a receipt. Premier parking owns the lot at 245 Washington. I phoned the guard that works the booth and he stated he did not have my vehicle booted. PBJ towing is robbing the community with its deceptive business practice. If you were to put an add in the paper regarding this business, I bet you ten dollars to your one, they have collected thousands of dollars that doesn't match their IRS tax revords. He never denies cursing me out and being unprofessional. Maybe I should start a petition or contact the Attorney General or the Division of Consumer affairs in the Department of Commerce and Insurance. I am pretty sure this company is in major violation of the Tennessee Consumer Law. I have a copy of the sticker that was placed on my window, I have pictures of where my vehicle was parked since I was accused of blocking the entrance, and I also have pictures of several vehicles that are actually blocking the entrance and they don't have boots on their cars. Where is my receipt for paying you to remove your equipment from my vehicle. Final Business Response PB&J Towing Service is a towing company which engages in "towing" services in downtown and other parts of Memphis. PB&J does not engage in "booting" services. Again, this person has her facts misplaced. PB&J has no further comment to make or provide on this issue.

On 4/27/16 ,I went outside to my car about 7am and my car was gone. This company rides through my apartments day and night towing cars illegally. This company towed my car ,stating that I double parked which is not true. This company is known for coming onto private property towing cars.I had to pay $155 to get my car back. This is a scam that this company is running and this needs to be stopped.Desired SettlementThis company needs to be shut down.Business Response PB&J once again thanks the Revdex.com for bringing this complaint to our attention for review and reply. However, as usual, with complaints from citizens like Ms [redacted], they fail to provide needed information sufficient to allow a cognizable response. Ms. [redacted] does not list the year, make or model or her vehicle or the location from which she alleged it towed by our company. All she does is rant and rave about this company coming through her apartments day and night conducting what she describes as illegal tows. PB&J is under contract with numerous property owners to tow vehicles found in violation of the complex parking rules and regulations; as well the Tennessee landlord/tenant act. If Ms. [redacted]' vehicle was towed for being double parked, it was double parked meaning she was parked in a manner which prohibited others from parking next to her. She was taking up more than one (1) parking space. Perhaps Ms. [redacted] would like to explain to her neighbors who also reside in her complex why she feels privileged to park in a manner which deprives them the right to park where they live. Ms. [redacted] is not the only person who lives in the apartments where her vehicle was towed from, and PB&J knows its an apartment because that's all our contracts are designed to service. Perhaps, ms. [redacted] should re-evaluate her attitude and actions with respect to parking as she wishes instead of parking as is required by the complex wherein she resides.

My car was towed by this company and I was lied to about what time I could pick up my car by 2 customer service representatives. I believe they gave conflicting times to make more money by added storage fees. I had an unpleasant phone conversation with a customer service representative who has harassed Memphians for years and was even investigated by a local news channel reporter about his rude approach to customers. If your car is ever towed, please pray that it is not by PB & J Towing in Memphis, TN. I am amazed that they have a B- rating here because they deserve an F.","neg-2

PB&J Towing came to the PepperTree Apartments we had just got out of the car to take our grandchildren in their house my husband went back out side 02/17/2016. We had to pay $155 the next day for towing. When we went to pick the car up on 02/18/2016We were told that if we we're in the car it should've been dropped and we should've paid $25 or $40. This company is a real ripoff this need to stop.Desired SettlementTo refund our money back and to reimburse is for stress, pain and suffering.Business Response As usual, PB&J appreciates the Revdex.com for bringing complaints to our attention for review and response. I also wish to apologize for the delay in responding to this complaint, but I've been out of the office. Now then, with regard to this complaint, the Peppertree Apartments has an aggressive parking policy, due to gang and other illegal activities occuring there; which we are charged with enforcing. If you park in the Peppertree Apts and your vehicle does not have a registered parking permit issued by the office of the apt complex you vehicle is to be towed immediately. Mr. [redacted] made a decision to park on that premise and did not have a parking permit and as a result his vehicle was towed. PB&J does not establish the Peppertree Apts parking rules, but we do enforce them. Now with regard to the fees Mr. [redacted] paid to retrieve the vehicle from PB&J, he was charged appropriately under the current city ordinance. Under this ordinance the fee for towing a vehicle is $125.00 and if the vehicle is not retrieved within two (2) hours of the tow the vehicle owner must pay $30.00 storage; thus making the total fee $155.00. Acoording to his complaint Mr. [redacted] states that his vehicle was towed on the 17th, but he did not retrieve it until the 18th. Therefore, more than 2 hours had elapsed before he came to get his vehicle. He was required to pay $155.00 at that point. Finally, with respect to Mr. [redacted] stating he was told that he could have paid less if he was in the car at the time of the tow. Under the current city ordinance he could have paid a $45.00 drop fee if he was present when the vehicle was being towed and if he thet $45.00 on him at that time. Tow truck drivers are not required to "hang around" while citizens go to see if they can come up with the necessary drop fee. This creates a dangerous situation for drivers as they have no one of knowing if someone is actually going to get a weapon or something. Had Mr. [redacted] possessed the required drop fee in hand,at time of the tow, the driver would have dropped the vehicle and Mr. [redacted] would have been required to remove the vehicle from the Peppertree property. Once, again, thanks to the Revdex.com for bringing this complaint to our attention.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I was in my car when the tow driver hooked up to my car. The Security told me to get out of my car before they handcuff me. There was no sign stating where we should park we have parked in the parking lot for over 10 minutes on numerous occasions with no problem. The tow truck driver never explained anything about a drop fee if he had it would've been paid on the spot without any confusion. So don't make me pay for your employee mistake. Do they(tow drivers) work on commission?Final Business Response PB&J has nothing further to say about this matter. Mr. [redacted] parked his vehicle on a property which required a parking permit. He did not have one and as a result his vehicle was towed. He even admits in his reply that the property security was on the scene directing him to get out of the vehicle. Mr. [redacted] and the property security knew he needed a parking permit to park on that property and that is why the property security got involved. It staggers the imagination that mr. [redacted] filed a complaint against PB&J for carrying out it contractural obligations to the apartment complex, but Mr. [redacted] never filed a complaint about the complex or its security personnel. Hence, there is nothing more that PB&J can or will say about this matter. We wish to thank the Revdex.com for bringing this matter to our attention for reply.
