Palram Americas Inc. / Suntuf Reviews (2)

Review: I purchased a "[redacted] Hybrid by Palram 6x8' Greenhouse Premium Pack - Green" from [redacted].com on 8/8/13. The greenhouse was assembled using the provided stakes from the manufacturer, Palram Americas Inc.

On November the 23rd the Greenhouse was blown over and destroyed. I immediately contacted the retailer and was instructed to submit pictures of the damage and a warranty claim form. I took around 75 photos of the damage that I sent in that same afternoon along with the warranty claim form. On December 27th I received an email saying that the manufacturer was not willing to cover the damage claiming and that "the stakes we used were not adequate for holding the greenhouse to the ground and the base kit was also needed to support the greenhouse during high winds."

The anchor kit used to anchor and secure the greenhouse to the ground was the one provided by the manufacturer. I actually attempted to purchase an extra ground anchoring kit with my order that was offered on the website for an extra $100. However, [redacted], a live chat representative with [redacted].com, assured me that it was not necessary for the area that we lived in and that we would be just fine with the anchors and base kit provided. He also informed me that the best way to assemble the greenhouse was to have it anchored to the ground with the provide stakes set into a gravel base. This was not our original plan but since this was what was recommended, we did just that, following the provided assembly instructions from Palram.

The Greenhouse was destroyed less than 3 months into its life. We immediately contacted the retailer.

At this point it has been 7 weeks. The retailer is trying to push this on the manufacturer but no progress has been made.Desired Settlement: I would accept a full refund or full replacement at no cost to be delivered within the next 2 weeks. As I have stressed to the retailer through this entire process, time is of the essence.

Review: We ordered a [redacted] hobby gardener HG-24 in September 2013. Since it arrived, we have been having problems with it. Immediately after assembling it, several of the joints in the roof were leaking when it rained so we had to duct tape those segments. Then, whenever it was a little windy, the roof window vents would blow open and snap off. Finally, in January 2014 when we got a fair amount of snow, all of the hooks along the ceiling that hold the metal suspension wire broke and the roof collapsed. The snow was only on the roof a couple of hours (it started overnight and my husband cleared it off the greenhouse first thing in the morning, but the damage had already been done.) The [redacted]com website states:"Sturdy and durable. Wind resistant. Roof tested to hold 1100 lbs of snow." Maybe because we got the biggest one its less stable because based upon the reviews we read online prior to purchasing a [redacted] greenhouse were mostly positive. Overall we are very dissatisfied with the quality of the product and it's flimsy construction. We submitted a complaint to Backyard Living source in February 2014. They requested pictures and additional documentation which we supplied. We didn't receive any response from them for over a month after submitting the requested materials. We contacted them again; they informed us that they were unable to authorize a return without contacting the manufacturer. They should have contacted the manufacturer immediately when they received our completed complaint documentation. It has since been another month and we have received no update on the status of our claim. We have had to completely disassemble the greenhouse because without the support wire, it was sagging in the middle and causing additional segments of plastic to crack. At this point, it is not even really salvageable with replacement parts (which are manufacturer guaranteed for seven years.) The dismantled greenhouse pieces are now taking up a large part of my house and yard but I cannot discard them. We filed complaint [redacted] against the distributor but we have been advised by Revdex.com and the distributor that warranty issues must be resolved with the manufacturer.Desired Settlement: At minimum, we would like the defective parts replaced, but we would really like to return the product and receive a refund due to the number of problems we have experienced with the product. In the first four months we had the greenhouse, we had 3 separate problems affecting multiple segments of the structure (leaking, broken plastic, and the roof windows flying off.) We invested a lot of money into this greenhouse. The only reason we didn't return it right away within the 30 day 100% money back guarantee return period was because we didn't want to pay the 20% restocking fee and return shipping. I think it would be fair to allow us to return the greenhouse subject to the 20% restocking fee although we have exceeded the 30 day return period. In this case we would still be taking quite a significant loss, but at least not a total loss.
