Panhandle Pre-Owned Autos, Inc. Reviews (2)

After purchasing a vehicle at Ten Point Auto Sales in November and having multiple issues with it (Issues that should have been detected before a sale was executed), due to negative equity, we are stuck in a vehicle that we have to pay out of pocket repair expenses on monthly which isn't going to help us get out of it any sooner because any extra money we would have to put towards saving for another car or toward the principle payment on the vehicle, we have to "throw it away" into the car. A car that we were told was "AWD" after we had asked for 4WD. A vehicle that I called the dealer within a week of purchasing it and complained about a noise coming from the front end and at that time was told it was "normal noise for S[redacted]". On top of everything else, we were tagged in the wrong state and have had a WV tag as PA residents for the past 6 months, because again, we are PA residents and due to the payment and repair expenses on top of that, the extra money for tags to be transferred just isn't there. The whole point to second chance financing is to put consumers into a RELIABLE vehicle that will last them the duration of the loan so that they can rebuild their credit to secure a better vehicle when the time would arise. Now we have negative equity in a vehicle that we are stuck in due to the negligence of a dealer having proper morals to do right by consumers

Review: Hello, I financed a used vehicle through [redacted] to get a used truck from Panhandle Pre-Owned Auto Sales, upon putting money down ($1,200.00) and making $300.00+ monthly payments during the first week of the purchase I was having problems with the brake lights, signals, headlights and I also had an exhaust leak and they replaced the alternator four times while under warranty and making me pay for the final alternator. During the first three weeks of having the vehicle Panhandle had possession of the vehicle four or five times and I was promised the warranty would be extended by Brooke S[redacted]. I assumed this vehicle had many issues outside of normal wear and tear. There are electrical issues, the AC/heat doesn't work and the tail pipe fell out of it a week ago. I have had this vehicle for six months now and the lights don't work at all. I only use this truck to drive back and forth to work and now I cannot drive it at all. Can someone please help me or pount me in the right direction as to what I can do? Thank you.Desired Settlement: I only use this truck to drive back and forth to work which is only about three miles away from where I live. I simply cannot drive this vehicle in the shape it is in now in fear of wrecking or hurting someone. I want my money back and they can have the piece of junk back. If not I plan on suing them as all of this has had me very suicidal for the last six months. I have been very stressed and depressed about this whole experience. I am certain they knew it had electrical issues.

September 17, 2014Dear [redacted],I am responding to the complaint filed in August from [redacted]. I would like to offer the following information and documents to provide a full understanding of this particular case.* Vehicle purchased on Saturday, February 15, 2014 with a 30 day or 1,000 mile limited warranty on the power train only. Limits are 50% dealer pays and 50% customer pays on motor and transmission. Agreement was made to bring vehicle back for state inspection. Documentation enclosed. [redacted] emailed us on February 19, 2014 with a list of concerns to have checked and made the appointment to bring vehicle back. Documentation enclosed.* February 26, 2014 vehicle returned to [redacted] with inspection completed. Documentation enclosed.* There was an issue with tail light that repeatedly kept going out. It was discovered that a bad wire in the steering column was causing the tail light and turn signal to short out. That was repaired.* Friday, February 28, 2014. [redacted] came to dealership to pick up and pay for two key fobs (keyless remotes) that he requested we arrange for him. No mention of any problems.* Monday, March 24, 2014 (26 days has passed) [redacted] called. Truck wouldn’t start for work. Took battery to work with him to slow charge and wanted an estimate in case he needed an alternator. No mention of tail lights or exhaust. Just dead battery. Advised [redacted] that his power train warranty did not cover alternators. Advised his warranty had expired after 30 days, which would have been March 17, 2014. I did offer to cover the alternator under the warranty and agreed to install the part for free if he paid for the part. He happily agreed but said he could not pay $125 for alternator until Friday, March 28. I agreed to go ahead with the repair and allow him to pay me at the end of the week.* Thursday, March 27, 2014.There was problem with the alternator provided by [redacted] and the truck had to be towed back to the dealership,* Friday, March 28, 2014. Vehicle was operating fine with [redacted] alternator. [redacted] was allowed to pick up the truck even though he couldn’t pay as promised. He agreed to come back on Saturday to pay for the alternator once his check was deposited but did not show up or call.* Monday March 31, 2014. We were informed that truck stopped running on Sunday, March 30 and was towed to another garage that diagnosed the problem as the alternator. We made arrangement to provide [redacted] with a loaner car until problem resolved with alternator. It was determined that an alternator from another manufacturer would be used since [redacted] had let us down for the 3rd time. Panhandle Auto Sales paid 100% of the bill to [redacted]'s Auto Repair for the tow and labor. Panhandle Auto Sales paid 100% to for alternator from [redacted]. Keep in mind, [redacted] had not paid for anything at this point, only the verbal agreement he would pay for the alternator.* Tuesday April 1, 2014, Email from [redacted] asking if the electrical issue could be theresult of his truck being hit in a parking lot by a snow plow truck. Not sure of the exact date of this incident, [redacted] explained to me that his girlfriend had taken truck to work. It was parked in a space when it was hit by a Snow-plow truck. I know no other details than this. However, this could be the cause of a loose exhaust. Document enclosed. * Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 11am [redacted] was advised that the truck was complete and ready for pick up at Panhandle Auto Sales. His bill was $110 for the cost of alternator from [redacted]s (price changed from [redacted]) per our original agreement. He was to pay for the alternator and we provide labor. When [redacted] returned the loaner car at closing time to pick up his truck, he became argumentative in the office and wanted to make a scene. He was refusing to keep his agreement to pay and didn’t think he should have to pay for anything. After several minutes of arguing, I advised [redacted] to take his truck and leave. Then he wanted to hug me and apologize for pushing me to anger. Again, [redacted] was allowed to leave with his truck without paying his bill. He agreed to come back on his next pay day, Friday April 4, 2014 and pay the $110 due and he did do that. Documents provided.* August 2014. (4 months later) [redacted] calls to see if we can help him with keys to this truck as he has lost his. He spoke with [redacted], the owner of the business. We could not help him with lost keys. Within 2 weeks of that phone call, we receive this complaint.[redacted] indicated this purchase is the first vehicle he has owned. I do not wish him to be stressed over a loose tailpipe or bad tail light to the point of self-harm but these repairs are relatively minor in the big scheme of things. We have been in business for 19 years and work very hard to maintain our reputation and our customers trust. I am sorry that [redacted] is not happy with his purchase but Panhandle Autos did not sell him a problem car nor did we hesitate to provide proper service when the need arose.Panhandle Auto Sales and its representatives have gone above and beyond to help [redacted]. We have offered many services and accommodations in order to keep [redacted] a happy customer. There was no mention of the tail light or exhaust in March when the alternator went bad. [redacted] was irritated over the phone call in August that we could not help him with his lost keys. Prior to that, there was no word from [redacted] with any problems. If he truly has had more problems since April, we were not made aware. He has provided no evidence of any problems already fixed or pending repair. This is a bogus complaint and as such I request that it be voided from my record as unfounded.Sincerely,Cheryl WVice President

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:I am dismayed and astonished that Panhandle Pre-Owned Auto would consider this complaint as bogus. During the whole 30 days of my warranty they in fact had possession of the vehicle more than I did. I work for [redacted] and all of my co-workers were blown away that they had the truck more than I had it after purchasing it. I have plenty of evidence to back up what I am complaining about. None of the problems, ie, taillights, turn signals or the exhaust leak was repaired. And to think I thought the movie Wrong Turn was just simply a movie. The reason I became angry at the dealership after the fourth alternator was placed in was due to two facts: Brooke assured me that my warranty would in fact be extended due to the repairs that needed to be done and Mr. [redacted] W[redacted] told me I could "get my tags of the rental myself "[redacted]"". His wife found me a screwdriver and I took my plates off the vehicle. As an attorney [redacted] of [redacted] put it, "I can't believe that place is still in business considering the complaints he has heard concerning the business of Panhandle Pre-Owned Auto. The very day that I bought the truck Brooke mentioned to me and my co-worker [redacted] that she drove the vehicle plenty of times to run errands etc and the truck would fit my budget nicely. When the third alternator went out of course they didn't charge me for towing because [redacted] Towing is owned by Mr. [redacted] W[redacted]' brother and I am certain [redacted] probably did the WV State Inspection on the truck after Brooke informed me upon my letter that the repairs had been done. The truck that hit my truck when my girlfriend had possession of it was a regular truck and the only thing that made contact with my truck was the salt spreader. My issues with the tail lights and brake lights and turn signals were problems that existed with the truck before that accident and I have proof of all this per [redacted] Body Shop. My friend and neighbor is a [redacted] County Sherriff and he replaced one of the tail lights the day I got it before taking it back for inspection the following day. Panhandle placed three batteries in it, four alternators and the lights still don't work. I have made numerous calls to Panhandle only to either have my call not picked up or messages have fallen on deaf ears. All of this has caused me a great deal of hardship as I cannot safely drive this truck to and from work due to the issues it has. The air condition stopped working within the first two weeks and the tail pipe fell off a couple weeks ago. None of the issues Brooke indicated were fixed were not fixed. I took the truck to [redacted] Auto and [redacted] there told me that my truck should not have even passed inspection and it should not even be on the road. This was in May 2014. I was forced to pay for the fourth alternator and I felt that it was simply not my responsibility to do so. During the months of June and July I made attempts to contact Panhandle and none of my calls were returned. With Mr. W[redacted] cursing me the day the final alternator was placed in I felt irresolute in dealing with them at all. I have since then obtained proper council and I plan on taking this case to the highest level to obtain justice and fairness. Panhandle can say all they want about this matter of complaint being bogus, they are simply trying malign my character to make themselves out to be a wonderful satisfactory car dealership for nineteen years. Hogwash! This truck was a lemon the day they sold it to me and I doubt seriously that Brooke used this vehicle like she claims to have used it, in West Virginia you cannot even drive a vehicle that doesn't have a state inspection sticker. You can do whatever you feel must be done with this case; as I have already stated I have obtained proper council and upon requests by council I will issue no further statements. Respectfully[redacted]

September 25, 2014Dear [redacted],In response to [redacted]’s reply to my answer regarding the above complaint, I regret that he is unhappy with his vehicle purchase and the service he has received from our dealership.[redacted] was provided with a 30 day warranty on the power train. That covers motor, transmission, and differential. The buyers guide clearly states this. Alternators are not a covered part. The warranty also clearly states the customer is responsible for 50% of the repair bill. After the tail light problem was corrected in February, [redacted] did not contact us with any problems until March 24. At that time, the warranty had expired as 30 days had passed. (February 15–March 24).I immediately offered to find [redacted] an alternator. It was agreed that he would buy the alternator and the dealership would install it for free as a customer appreciation service. Unfortunately, [redacted] provided us with alternators that did not work. We did have to go to another manufacturer. It did inconvenience [redacted] so we provided him with a free loaner vehicle. It also inconvenienced my dealership and cost me unnecessary stress and money. I am paying a mechanic to install alternators over again, gas and wear on my tow truck, miles and wear on my loaner car, time spent ordering/returning parts, etc. It certainly was not the intention of Panhandle to receive bad alternators that did not fix his truck. No one is in business for that. It was a mutual inconvenience to both parties and neither party was negligent. My dealership was greatly inconvenienced over trying to give a free service to buy customer trust and loyalty which I ultimately did not receive either. The situation with the alternators through [redacted] caused so much grief that I cancelled my account and stopped using them for parts.I reject [redacted]'s claim that he attempted to reach us in June and July with his repair problems. His call was received in August and the only thing discussed was lost keys. If his vehicle repairs were that serious for that long of a period, I feel he would have made contact with us prior to the end of August. He previously communicated with us by email but there was no email from him during this time either. There are no winners here. I can only offer [redacted] the following suggestions. There is a common problem in the steering column that causes the tail lights to go out depending on how the steering wheel is turned. Hard turns or tilting of wheel can cause a harness connector to become unplugged. The part; [redacted] from [redacted] can be change and it costs about $40. The tailpipe can be completely replaced if needed for $50 at [redacted] Auto Repair (phone ###-###-####). If it is loose or needs reattached, they can also give you an estimate for that. They offer the most reasonable prices on exhaust that I have found,What I perceive to be generous gestures on part of the dealership to assist [redacted] with repairs outside of the warranty was not received as such. Again, I regret that [redacted] is an unhappy customer and our business relationship has deteriorated.Sincerely,Cheryl WVice President

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: allow her to handle this matter. The brake lights, the turn signals, hazard lights do not work properly and have not worked properly since I have had this vehicle, the exhaust leak was never fixed and I have proof of all of this. This is my last statement concerning Panhandle Pre-Owned Auto. My attorney has advised me to allow her to handle this matter. Panhandle claim they towed my truck when the owners brother ran the towing company and also possibly did the WV State Inspection. The truck is a lemon and I want all of my money refunded including the $1,700.00 down payment and the money for two key fobs and the alternator. Panhandle Preowned auto indicates it is sorry that all of this happened when they knew full well the truck they were selling had electrical issues.
