Octavian S was hired to install tile flooring in our kitchen, bathroom, and utility room. He stated he had installed tile flooring and showed pictures on his phone of jobs he completed. I explained that we had bad experiences in the past with individuals claiming to do jobs correctly and he reassured me that he was capable pf completing the job to our expectations. He started the project on Aug 28 and stated this would be a 4-5 day job. We paid him half down ($1500) on Aug 28th. He removed the vinyl flooring and notice water damage area in the bathroom. He asked for $770 on Aug 29 to repair the area which we paid. From that day forward he created more damage throughout the project to our rooms by destroying wood frames, baseboards, and what ever else he made had covered up by the partial flooring he actual laid incorrectly. We finally fired him on Sept 14th because he never completed any part of the job and always left the house a total mess with layers of dust, and cement/gout on cabinets, walls and appliances. Since the time of his firing, 3 contractors have come to review our project and all agree he didn't prepare the sub flooring below the tile properly and the tile itself was installed incorrectly. We are asking to have all of our monies reimbursed as well as the cost of the tile. The cost for repairing and redoing the original project has doubled from the original price Octavian had quote because now the tile and underlayment has to be removed and be replaced as well as the wood trim around the bottom of doorways and the build in cabinets in bathroom in addition to all of the baseboards. If more damage is noticed after the flooring is removed, it is possible the price for the repair would be higher.
I am disappointed that he was not truthful about his lack of experience in doing this project which resulted in more damage in our home that never existed before he accepted the job.

Subject: Re:Complaint
I am responding to a complaint Issued by *** He Hired me to Install ceramic tile flooring including demo a previous vinyl flooring.
I gave him an original timeline that was prior to discovering damaged subflooring. Installing new floors on an older style Home comes with its own challenges. I was asked to finish a certain part of the flooring In a certain amount of time and was not able to complete it due to unforeseen Challenges that arose with the Project. I was at ***'s house 12 days not including weekendsTo finish up this project. I had to move the appliances to 1/2 of the kitchen and install the flooring on the other half the kitchen. Once the floor dried I moved the appliances to the other half of the floor and install the tile on the other portion of the floor.
Door needed to be planed and trim needed to be cut. All these things were done and I was close to finishing the floor install. *** enjoyed the hard work and was very happy to see me. He wanted the laundry room done which was the the pathway to the back door. I could not finish it until the next day. *** was very angry about that and told me He no longer need my services. He called the credit card company that he made his payment through and told them he had no knowledge of the transaction *** did not wanna pay me for the work that was completed and what not allow me to finish the job that I started in order to get paid. The credit card company refunded all his money to him. And now he said he wants double the money for the project. I've dealt with people like this before is this really unfortunate. He received all of his money back any still wants more. I was there for 12 days at any time he coulda told me he didn't agree with the work He let me continue to take advantage of the situation.
Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because:Octavian never completed any portion of the job. He randomly move from one part of the room to another and never completed anything in full. I had a freezer in my dining room and washer and dryer in my hallway for most of the time he was at my house. He only removed part of the floor moldings in the bathroom and utility room and began installing flooring. He ripped our wood trim 16 inches from the flooring on one side of our drawers in the bathroom and didn't even mentioned it to us. Our home was built in the 40's and now we will not be able to match that same trim for replacement. The tiles were not laid properly and he walked on them before they were set. All of our door jams have been cut too high or very jagged that they do not fit squarely on the flooring. Since Octavian was asked to leave, I have received new estimates for all the repairs plus redoing the flooring completely because it was laid incorrectly from the tile backer to the actual tiles. Now I realize Octavian was trying to complete a job that he didn't have the experience to be doing in the first place. Before Octavian was hired, I had asked if he had experience in doing this type of work and he said he did, but his work ethics did not prove to be so.Octavian was always late for work, arriving from 1-3 hours later than the time he said he would be here. When he left at the end of the day the house was a mess. He never cleaned up the area after he was finished. My wife and I washed cement off the cabinetry, doors, and walls each day he worked. I will have to repaint many areas because of all the chips and damage he made to our trim and walls. Octavian created more damage to our home than it was before he arrived. Octavian worked 12 days but if you look at the mess he has created in our 3 rooms, you wouldn't even realize he did anything productive. Many of those 12 days were not full days since he arrived so late. He was not near completion by any means if you see the appearance of our rooms as is.
Sincerely
