I contracted [redacted] to re-point my chimney. He applied cement to top half, saying the cement is not holding. Bought different cement for lower half, saying he will remove top half and replace with a better product. He never replaced cement, now, product is falling out and at upper half is moving forward.[redacted] worked chimney and immediately put on sealer - he should wait in between these applications. I now have a white chimney - not happy! [redacted] was payed in full $900 plus 440 for gas. I have canceled checks and a receipt he received and checks with his signature. [redacted]It is impossible to get in touch with him, his wife says he will call me - it never happens, he will push me to more drastic measures. Business Response I would like to respond to the complaint by [redacted]i removed old mortar and replaced on entire chimney which had not been done in fifty yearsi had informed [redacted] that the chimney had to be replaced or to wrap it in wire and to apply a scratch coat to protect it from the elements and that this was putting a bandaid on something that needed sticthes.repairs performed1/removal of mortar for re pointing2/removal of old and brokenn brick on left side of main chimney on arc3/removal of cap at top4/removal of old chimney cap hood5/repointing of entire chimney which was 6ft-7ft at base and 4ft by 3ft over roof line total height approx 24 ft6/repaired roof cap with cement 7/replaced 25 brick on arch to house on lft side of main chimney8/replaced four brick at top of chimney9/repointed half of chimney again because of old and pourous brick due to long neglect of proper maintance of chimney open to elements10/acid washed 11/ installed new metal hood and repair of chimney flue12/ acid washed again day later13/ returned one week later and acid washed again14/ returned again and acid washed and sealed brick upon drying 15/ returned again to evaluate and informed [redacted] that it was a problem with age and condition of brickhad given [redacted] 4 different quotes to resolve issues on first meeting1/ removal and rebuild of chimney 14000-18000 dollars2/removalof chimney and replacement of metal externalduct system and to remove and replace siding of side of house to cover removal of chimney 8000-10000 dollars 3/repoint that was a stop measure and was only avoiding it for a year or two 900 dollarsdid the work for [redacted] as a associate of wifes family did not have a contract nor did ifinancially gain on repair 900 dollarsmaterials 6 bags of high density mortar 65 dollars4 grinding discs 1352 bags of cement 1230 matching brick 553 bottles of acid 95 dollars1 bottle of weathering sealer 64 dollarsgas 90hire of staging/ ladder brackets 55total materials and gas 481 dollarstotal recieved 940 dollars which left only 459 for labourlabour costs ran for my laborer at 650 which gave me a loss of 191 for my labourer and no pay for me were [redacted]s house is located near [redacted] and open to high winds and extreme elemnts and cannot be respionsible for the further deteriation of chimney from the elements and that the first quote was to remove and replace and now over two years later it has reached a more serious outcome which is unfortunate for [redacted]the chimnet does not list from repointing it is from elemnts and high winds snow ice heat and the contracting of the old pouros bricks and if the mortar is removing it is from the instability of a 60 year chimney open to the elements and poor neglect and maintance and from snow and ice build up behind chimney and with the wind factorresolution 1/remove and replace chimney2/remove and replace with metal duct and replacement of sidingall above would be supervised from the worcester building dept to insure satisfactory resultsif [redacted] would wish for this I would more than happy to facilitate with the reduction of the original price of repointing less the labour that I lost which was 560 dollars for twenty four hours and that is at a minimal hourly rate so I would round it off and deduct four hundred dollars off I can not be held responsible for two additional years of harsh seasons and over fifty years of neglectFinal Consumer Response
