Ricky Pearce Painting Reviews (1)

We received two quotes. One for $650 for light sanding of cabinets and walls, then painting one coat. The next quote was for $1850, which was supposed to include restoring kitchen walls and cabinets like new, sanding thoroughly, priming all walls, then painting walls and cabinet two coats. The quote included caulking all cracks, removing hardware from cabinets, sanding cabinets and painting cabinets in two coats. It stated that the work would require two men working six days and that the kitchen would look brand new. We were getting a couple of other quotes when he just showed up to our house one Saturday morning begging to work since his family was out of town for Christmas. After discussing some other work, including patching some holes that he didn't do, we agreed to an increased price of $2400. Him and another man came the next day and stayed from 730-11. Each day after that, they didn't stay later than 11, because he said he needed to let mud dry or he couldn't sand. There were lots of excuses, but we believed him, because he seemed to know his stuff. After a week, we had a housekeeper come, because we needed to go on our family vacation. We left the rest of the payment with her, so he could be paid when it was done. We came back home to a mess. He did not remove the kitchen doors or sand them. He also painted over all the hardware and only did one coat everywhere, which you could see through. There were paint runs everywhere, along with paint drops on the floor, fridge, windows, counters, etc. We have multiple pictures that we can share as well. We made multiple attempts through texts, emails and phone calls to have him come back. This communication lasted over three months and he would always come up with excuses for why he couldn't come back to fix and complete the job. He finally came back one day in March, but said he couldn't work, because his ribs were hurting, but he admitted to a bad job and said he was "embarrassed" about it. We made multiple dates and he never showed up.Product_Or_Service: Repairing walls and cabinets / PaintingDesired SettlementWe gave ample opportunity for this job to be corrected and completed as promises/quoted, but he never would come back. I have all documentation showing that. At this point, we want a refund for all, because we are going to have to hire someone else to fix everything. We will not ask for money back for the paint that was purchased. In all, he was paid $2420, because we gave him $20 extra since he was low on cash for Christmas for his family. A refund of $1800 would be acceptable.Business Response I did the job the way I've always done my job, to the best of my ability. I paid to have the dry wall work done by a friend who has done drywall for 30 odd years. She had no complaints. My cost for the drywall work was $850.00. I paid him in full. We left most days before noon because you have to let coats of drywall mud or coats of paint dry before you can apply another coat. Every morning I came back I had to clean dirty dishes off the kitchen counters and kitchen table so I could wrap thins up. I had to pick up dirty clothes including personal items from bathroom floor and bedroom area. This home is over 80 years old, I, by no means, am the first painter to enter their home. The cabinets had been painted many times before including by her husband. She told me that her husband was REPLACING the existing hardware on kitchen cabinets. There was so much stuff piled everywhere we only had a small path around each room to work in. This is why I painted cabinets with doors on. There just wasn't anywhere to put them. Even the enclosed back porch was piled with stuff.I'm sorry she is not happy with my work. This is not my normal results with my great customers. They used the shower the very same night I painted the bathroom even though I specifically asked them NOT to.I used [redacted] on all walls. Top of the line paint. I did not cut corners on my materials and never do.I paid the carpenter $250.00 to put up the crown molding in the kitchen and bedroom. So with materials I purchased for the home, this adds up to a total of $1300.00 I paid out as labor and materials out of my pocket.I guess she is saying out of all the different contractors she wasn't happy with any of our work. I have never had even one (1) complaint about any of their or my work before her job, and I assure you I have worked on many prestigious homes.I will refund half (50%) of what she is asking ($1,800.00) in return, in the amount of $900.00. I will make a monthly payments of $100.00 per month until the $900.00 is paid.I just lost a nice job because of her remarks she posted on my Facebook page. I just want to be done with the "awful" (the word she used on my Facebook page) lady and this situation.I will deal with her through you but I do not have any desire to, as much as to talk with her.I will do my best to try and resolve this terrible mess of a problem.Consumer Response We have email documentation that his accusations were not true. When he originally accused us of leaving dirty dishes and clothes around, he put someone else's name, so he must have been arguing with them as well. That is simply not true. We did not expect a perfect job, but by the pictures, it is shown that the job was horrible. There were spots that were left white and there were runs. The cabinets were not taken down and sanded, which is what we really wanted and why we paid so much more than the first quote. Yes, they had been painted a few times before, which is why we wanted a professional to sand and repaint. Instead of taking them down and sanding them, they were all covered with one coat of paint, which made it look even worse. We did not use the shower, because we were not even there. We were out of town and had a house sitter, who did not shower there either, as she has her own house to shower in. It was apparent that he only painted with one coat on all surfaces, even though it was quoted that two coats would be used. Ricky even told us that the bathroom had to have two coats, because it was brand new and had never been painted before, plus the material needed a paint that would stick to it. The documentation showing that we tried and tried to work with him, but he never showed up to fix the problems is shown. (There are many more text messages saved as well, if needed.) We are ok with the $900 refund, as we would like to be finished with this as well. We do hate that it came to this, as we really tried to work with him. We just wanted the job done, as quoted and paid for. I have no problem removing the review once the problem is rectified.
