Review: the contractor [redacted] took money for services that he did not complete and lied to us that he would complete the construction process. He also asked for a deposit of $2500. for trim work that was to be done after completing the construction and painting. He was to complete the painting of our whole house and then put up trim with help from another contractor that he was hiring. The check was not to be cashed, was to be used only if he could find the same trim that we had already purchased, as we did not have enough and it wasn't available in our area. We were going away for two weeks, until March 15. He was to complete all the painting and have the house ready to put up the trim when we returned. We came home on 3/15, furniture was all together in great room covered with plastic and tarps, painting was just as it was when we left. I paid him for the painting job infull when we left, as he promised it would be completed. Gave him a check for $1500. he received the check on 2/28/13 and cashed it on the 28th, the trim deposit check, which I did not know he asked my husband for, $2500. was given on 2/28 and cashed it on 3/4/13 in VA. He left NJ to return to VA for a few days and did not return until the end of May. We called him repeatedly asking what happened, gave us all types of excuses, finally after 2 months as for the return of the $4000. that we gave him to complete the paint job and the deposit on the trim. He would not send us the money back,.When he finally returned to NJ in May he promised the work would be done immediately , which never happened, more excuses for 2-3 weeks- didn't put the trim up until June 14 - he hired a fellow named [redacted] who did all the work while [redacted] watched. [redacted] finished most of the trim and was to return on Tuesday, 6/18 to finish the job with [redacted] assistance. Date was changed to Wed. [redacted] showed up, [redacted] did not, called with excuses that he was stuck in traffic. He never showed up, actually left the state and returned to Virginia, telling [redacted] that he would meet him on Thursday, next door to us (his mother is our neighbor) and would pay him then. [redacted] was very upset that he did not help with the project as promied. He stopped at our house on Thursday looking for [redacted] - my husband told him he left for VA. [redacted] was furious as he was to pay him for the job and disappeared. He was to receive $500.00 and [redacted] had our money to pay for the job and should of returned the $2000. to us and also the $1500. for the final paint payment. He is not returning to NJ to settle this. He never completed any of the work he started, won't answer our calls and Just called me that we are harassing him. He owes us money that he took dishonestly.Desired Settlement: Just want our money back for work that he did not do and so we can pay the contractor that put the trim up.
