Rio City Cafe Reviews (1)

Review: I'm a resident and business owner here in Old Sacramento. My bad experience with Rio City Cafe happened when I was walking by this establishment. I was cussed out by one of the cooks (by the name of [redacted]) as I was taking my morning walk along the pier. He just randomly started yelling at me to "[redacted]" for no reason at all. And when I confronted him about it, he went on to say that he "wasn't sorry" that he insulted me. [redacted] quickly turned into a complete coward once I demanded to talk to his manager: "Please man, can we just let this go (he said this right after saying he wasn't sorry)? Then to make things worse, 2 of the employees, including the hostess, lied to me and said the manager wasn't present even though she actually was. Another employee refused to give me [redacted]'s name and pretended like she couldn't speak english. The icing on the cake was when the manager came out and told me even though I didn't know the name of the guy, she "knew" who I was talking about. I asked if she was responsible for hiring and she said yes, "but he was a recent" hire. As if incompetently hiring bad help is excusable as long as it's a recent hire. P.S. [redacted], the manager of Rio City Cafe, just chased after me and gave me the same "recent hire" excuse as the other manager. Immediately jumped into excuse mode before even taking the time to sincerely apologize. Apparently nobody wants to take responsibility over there. I guess if an employee of this restaurant insults you to your face, it's NOT Rio City's fault as long as that employee is a RECENT HIRE.Desired Settlement: I want [redacted] the cook to be fired for harassment. Also I demand a written apology along with guarantees in said apology that management will change their hiring procedures--assuming they have any.

Response:

The complaint filed against us is completely false and we have many witnesses to the facts surrounding the incident. The person complaining is not a customer, he was walking by our restaurant before business hours and heard a staff member ([redacted]) talking to another employee saying "did you see that [redacted] pheasant?" Mr. [redacted] thought that [redacted] had said "[redacted]" and got in [redacted]s face and then tried to fight him. [redacted] said "Whats your problem, I wasn't even talking to you" then [redacted] turned around and went back in the building where he was working and was followed into the building by Mr. [redacted] who continued screaming and kept trying to get in [redacted]s face then [redacted] said, "get the fk out of here". When an employee came into my office and told me what was going on I went to Mr. [redacted] and asked if I could help him and what exactly was going on. Mr. [redacted] then said "are you the dumba** in charge of hiring?" I said "I am trying to help you right now and I will not be cussed at, now lets start over, what can I help you with?" He then said that one of my staff members is a "[redacted]" and was cussing and when he approached my staff member he coward.. Mr.[redacted] continued yelling so I went into the area where my employees were prepping and got [redacted]'s side of the story and when I was talking to him Mr. [redacted] again came into the kitchen area yelling and I had to tell him "you are not allowed in this kitchen you need to wait outside for me" I then talked to 3 other witnesses who backed up [redacted]'s story. I gave Mr. [redacted] my name, the owners name and phone numbers and told him I would talk to the owner when he got in. Mr. [redacted] left the front of the building calling me a "Dumb Bh". Shortly after opening the owner [redacted] had arrived at the restaurant and I informed him of the incident. Mr. [redacted] returned shortly thereafter and came in through the front door and slammed a piece of paper (turns out it was a bad Facebook review he posted and printed out) down on the hostess stand.. When I saw him I told the owner "that's the guy that was trying to fight [redacted]". [redacted] then followed Mr, [redacted] out of the building in hopes to resolve the issue. Mr. [redacted] was visibly still upset with the mornings incident and even when [redacted] was apologizing he kept yelling. [redacted] then told Mr. [redacted] he would research the incident further and walked away. In response to Mr. [redacted]s demand that we fire [redacted] we will not be doing so as we have witnesses to the incident that all have the same story showing Mr. [redacted] as the aggressor. In our opinion [redacted] did the right thing by walking away from the situation and avoiding a physical altercation. Myself and [redacted] have apologized to Mr. [redacted] for the miss understanding but he was unwilling to accept it nor was he willing to come to a resolution, and it is our opinion he owes us an apology for the inaccurate facebook rant as well as his foul language aggressive behavior. Thank you, [redacted]
