Ro Kay Concrete Reviews (2)

Review: My experience is highly similar to the first complaint. I initially contracted with [redacted], owner of this company in late April of 2013 for repair on my patio. After accepting the initial deposit of $1600 I heard nothing from him for several weeks. After calling and inquiring I was assured that he would start the work at X day, then Y day. This must have happened 3-4 times before he actually showed up to start the work. After 2 or so days of work, he stopped showing up again. He left the job midway. After more and more calls, and more false promises to complete the job I have no other choice but to seek legal action. It has been well over 5 months and the job is not complete.Much like the previous complaint, he took my money and did not deliver the agreed upon services. He also gave me the sob story. I understood his situation so I gave him more than enough chances to rectify the problem. His work came recommended and that added to my desire to let him finish job. Unfortunately, I think my empathy has been taken advantage of. I was foolish to let him talk his way into dragging me along for so long. The last straw was my threatening to take legal action and his promise to show up the very next day to finish the job. Not surprisingly, that did not happen. Through out the whole ordeal he must have promised on over 10 different occasions that he would show up and did not do so and never called. Upon further investigation (which I should've done first) you will find that his company is not registered with the Louisiana secretary of state nor is there anyone with a with his name registered with the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors. Additionally, I also discovered that he was completing jobs while mine sat on the back burner. This guy and his company is bad news. STAY AWAY. Ro Kay Concrete also does business as Dreams to Reality Construction.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of my deposit. If legal action is required, I will seek attorney's fees, add cost of having to hire another company to complete the job, and any other remedies allowed by Louisiana law.

Response:

At this time, I have been contacted directly by Ro Kay Concrete regarding complaint ID [redacted], however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The company has advised that they will complete the work. They are scheduled to come and perform said work next week. Although they are 'scheduled' to perform the work, the complaint has not been resolved as the construction has not been completed. Further, I have previously received false assurances stating the same. At this point, the complaint is still ongoing.

Sincerely,

Review: The concrete "contractor" named [redacted] (never did get his last name) gave me an estimate and took partial payment for a large job at my home, including a new driveway, sidewalks, and concrete columns for a wrought iron fence. I should have known from the beginning that there was something amiss when he would not tell me his last name, and asked me to make checks out to his "wife," for reasons unknown. I can only guess he has prior financial troubles and doesn't want any of his earnings garnished. In any case he started the job but then left it mostly unfinished, only returning after numerous calls. He offered every excuse in the book as to why he wasn't coming daily to complete the job, including owing child support in another state. I found out later that he was starting other jobs before finishing previous ones, only to get his up-front money and then disappear. He also stiffed me with a concrete bill of over $1600, using the money I PAID him for concrete delivery on something else. The concrete company came after me for the money, stating they would put a lien on my property if I did not pay. In addition, [redacted] did shoddy work on the concrete columns. In fact he never finished them and I had to get another contractor to finish them, costing me an additional $2600. I also learned from his helper that he did not pay his help on time, owing his helper $500. As you can see, [redacted] caused me a lot of headaches and made me go WAY OVER budget on my project. Needless to say, I will be taking him to court. A job that should have taken 10 days turned into a 6 week nightmare. STAY AWAY from this man!!! He is a smooth talker but it's all B.S.I spoke with another of his customers and he did the same thing to her, taking money at the beginning but never completing the work. His business ethics are non-existent, his follow-up after starting a job is laughable, and he seems to get himself in over his head with projects. Again, I strongly recommend to NEVER use Ro-Kay for any concrete workDesired Settlement: I would like the $1642 that I paid [redacted] for concrete that was delivered to my home, money that he obviously didn't use to pay for the concrete. I am now being slapped with a lien against my home by the concrete company unless I pay them this amount. In addition, I would like compensation for the other contractor who had to finish the job, including $2600 for the unfinished columns and sidewalks, as well as another $550 I had to pay to have the columns refinished after the forms were removed.
