Review: My husband and I purchased a second home in [redacted], Mass. last year that needed a new roof and new skylights replaced. Mr. Robert Chambers was hired to replace the roof and the skylights. We were given an estimate on 8/27/13 and we were told he would start the job in mid November. He kept delaying the job. Mr. Chambers was finally in touch with me in January and wanted a down payment for the roof and skylights. I told him I did not know anything about skylights and asked him if he could pick them out and replace them with the same skylight he was removing or something close to that style. The windows are placed in 2 dormers and sit low, so it was a special order. On 2/5/14 he went to [redacted] and picked out the skylights and placed the order. He called and asked my husband to call [redacted] to pay for the windows and he did with his credit card.Once again we waited and the skylights were not installed until mid May. I came to the house on June 27, 2014 and saw the skylights and was not happy with the way they opened, they were much different than the original ones and I thought they were dangerous and that one of my grandsons could open them too wide and fall out. I did speak to Mr. Chambers about that. Mr. Chambers assured me that when the screens were placed that it would be fine. He did state that he did not like the manufacturers screens that came with the windows he thought they looked too industrialized and he was having some made to replace them. If Mr. Chambers had been truthful to me he would have told me that the screens did not fit because of the ceiling line of the room and they could not be placed correctly. I paid him the balance for the installation that day and he told me he would return to install the screens he had made for the skylights. He came back the next day and threw some wood up and tried to place the screen he had made and it would not stay in place, it kept falling down. He stated he would be back the next day with the second screen and fix both of them. He never came or called me, after more numerous call and messages left on how bad the windows were, he never contacted me. I took pictures of the job he had done and sent them to him and asked if he was proud of the job he had done, and if he was, that I had hired the wrong man. He called me back right away and stated that he was not proud of the job at all. He told me that he would get the correct windows and install them for me and stated I [redacted] up on this one. He met with my husband and I in August and suggested that I pick out the skylights, send him the information and he would order them and install them for us. The info was sent to Mr. Chambers and we never heard from him. I left more messages and received no replies. On 10/10/14 I received a text from him stating you paid for them, I installed what was provided. I wont be buying or installing any skylights for you. I have photos, receipts and all the text messages he sent me saved. I feel he has done a disservice to my husband and I and feel I should be compensated for the skylightsDesired Settlement: I am requesting a reimbursement for the 2 Skylights, Step Flashing, Roof Window Roll screen, Roller Shade, so that I can have someone else install the correct ones. $2358.75
