This appliance repair business charged for parts in advance then never installed them and has since failed to return phone calls. On 7/28/14, this appliance repair company was sent to my home after I called a [redacted] Local referral service. Our refrigerator ([redacted]) needed repair. The repairman said that due to the price of needed parts, advance payment was required and I paid $364.89 by check. He returned on 7/30/14, presumably to install the parts. After working behind the refrigerator, he handed me some old parts and stated the repair was complete. A week later the problem returned and he has failed to return any phone calls since. Another repair service was called to complete the work and they found that none of the parts I paid this company for were ever installed.Desired SettlementRefund of repair bill of $364.89.

Complaint[redacted] with RTP Home Service or RTP Service Pro made idle promises to repair my refrigerator, but actually did more damage than good. Here are the facts: I contacted [redacted] because the refrigerator defrost system was having issues. [redacted] quickly assessed the issue and informed me that the cost for the part for the repair was $185. I felt like that was an extremely high price for a refrigerator part, so I found the same part for almost half the price online with [redacted] and [redacted] gave me a hard time saying that he would only install parts from his dealer (probably so that he could pocket a portion of that $185), but later agreed to install the part I ordered. After installation, the refrigerator was STILL not working properly. I called him to come back out to complete the repair (since he warrantied the labor), but he was dismissive and unresponsive. After multiple calls and hounding him, he agreed to come back and finish the repair, but did not show up. Weeks later, the refrigerator is still not fixed and I am out over $165. [redacted] appears to be a con-artist who rips off poor consumers like myself. BEWARE!Desired SettlementI would like my repair to be completed properly or a full refund for both the part and labor.Business Response Miss [redacted] asked us to come diagnose her refrigerator. I explained that we charge $65 to come out and diagnose appliances. There is a parts and labor charge once we have diagnosed the problem. I told her the suggested retail price on her parts. She refused to purchase parts from us and purchased faulty rebuilt parts online. She only paid us half our diagnosis fee and refused to pay unless we agreed to install her used parts. I then told her we would install her parts but we would not warranty the service or parts. I ininstalled her parts and the refrigerator continued to have the same problem due to faulty parts she orderd. I told her I was not interested in continuing to do business with her as she is creating more issues with every step. Miss [redacted] then lied to [redacted] and said her payment to us was unauthorized and was an act of fraud. [redacted] took back the money she paid. Miss [redacted] is manipulative and wants hard work for free. She acts as if she is the expert and does not follow the recommendations of those she hires. She is also a thief who will lie and accuse others of fraud to steak money.Consumer Response [redacted] presents a very flawed narrative of the series of events. (1) The $65 fee was supposed to cover the labor and diagnosis, not the labor alone. The fee initially applies to the diagnosis, but then becomes the labor cost when the customer agrees to contract with the technician for services. Therefore, when the labor was not properly done/completed, I requested a full refund. The labor was also warrantied for one year. (2) Prior to the service call, [redacted] never stipulated that I had to use his vendor to purchase any necessary parts. However, he wanted me to purchase the $185 retail price for the part from his vendor, so that he could swap out the old part and pocket a portion of those funds. He became frustrated when I found another [redacted] certified part from a different vendor for a significantly lower price. He ultimately agreed to install the part I ordered, but stipulated that the warranty would only apply to the labor. Since the part was warrantied by [redacted] I was fine with this arrangement. (3) Since the part situation was met with such opposition, I became skeptical that he would actually complete the repair, so we agreed that I would pay half of the labor/diagnosis fee before the repair and the other half after the repair. I upheld my end of the bargain (and paid a tip). He did not uphold his express agreement. (4) When the refrigerator continued not to work properly, [redacted] came by the house (after I threatened to sue) and agreed to finish/complete the repair properly the following day at 6 pm. He did not show up. I have testimony of my tenant to support this. Since then, he's failed to uphold the one year warranty on the labor that he provided in writing. (5) His diagnosis itself was incorrect and likely a scam. Since this debacle, I've had another (trained) certified technician come out to repair the refrigerator. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the defrost control board (as [redacted] diagnosed); the issue was in the wiring of the refrigerator. This could/should have been identified by a proper continuity test which is the reasonable commercial standard used in refrigerator repair. [redacted] obviously did not have this type of training or equipment or he would have determined this during his diagnosis. Instead, he attempted to gyp me out of almost $250 (for an 8-year old refrigerator not even worth $350). Moreover, the new technician explained to me that as a standard practice, technicians never pay retail price for parts. He estimated that [redacted] would likely pocket half (if not 75%) of the cost of the part, which is likely why he became so upset when I went with a different vendor for the part. In addition, the new technician noted that absolutely nothing was wrong with the old defrost control board that was removed from my unit. Therefore, I spent $100 on a part that was not needed and had nothing to do with why my refrigerator was malfunctioning. In short, [redacted] is likely used to dealing with consumers who are not informed their rights. He conducted a faulty diagnosis, caused me an unnecessary expense for an unneeded part, and failed to uphold the labor warranty. I hope that my complaint will make others aware of his dishonest, subpar services. At this point, I want no remedy other than for this complaint to be available for other consumers considering his services.
