I was billed improperly and when I spoke to manager [redacted], he refused to adjust bill.
I contacted Modern Plumbing to do a septic inspection on a property that i'm buying which is in escrow. I explained to [redacted] that I was told the septic is by the propane tank but I didn't have an exact location. [redacted] quoted me 430.00 which will include septic inspection, empty and certificate. he also explained that he will charge 75.00/hr to dig in addition since exact location was not known. My appointment was 4/26/2013 at 9am. The septic worker arrived approximate 10 minutes late. I explained that I know the septic is by the propane tank but not sure of exact whereabouts. The septic worker said he didn't have his equipment with him to check so he chose a spot that he thought it might be which was NOT by the propane tank which I had indicated to him. He didn't start digging until about 9:20. My husband helped him dig and he dug a small hole which took about an hour and in the mean time took 3 calls from manager [redacted] which total over 30minutes of phone time about other jobs [redacted] wanted to send him on. Finally, the worker decided to go by the propane tank which I had told him to begin with. He started to laugh and said I guess you were right. He started digging another hold in which he broke one of the pipes. As soon as he broke the pipe he decided he wanted to go which was 11:00am. He than said he was told he had to charge me 187.50, which is two hours of digging and mileage. I told him it wasnt two hours and never was I told mileage would be added. He told me he had to collect and I can discuss issue with [redacted]. I paid the worker 187.50 and he left. I called [redacted] and explained he never told me anything about mileage and it was NOT two hours of work and not too mention he broke one of the pipes. [redacted] said there would be no adjustment of bill. I feel this is unfair because he only dig for about a little over one hour. He started late and was on the cell phone at least 3 times. I also have been told by other septic companies that they should've brought their equipment to locate the tank w/out having to guess where it was. I feel that Modern Plumbing took advantage of me because I have never had service and wasn't sure how it worked. I know now that Modern Plumbing has a device that could've easily targed where the propane was instead of just digging holes at a guess. There is no way that he dug for two hours and I should not be charged for the time he was on cell phone or arriving late and getting started late. He should also be responsible for the pipe he broke. I since than went through another septic company in which I was treated with much respect. I'm very dissapointed in the treatment and lack of service I received. I now have better knowledge on septic companies and modern plumbing did not bring the proper equipment so they can charge extra time for labor. They know if they brought the equipment that the propane tank would've been located in a quickly manner and I wouldnt have this unfair bill.
