Stone & Wood Renovations

Started job. Wanted part of money up front. Hasn't returned calls in 3 weeks to finish job.
Hired this man first of January. He came over the first part of Febuary to start job on my wood floor. He cut into my floor then stated he need part of money for supplies. I wrote him a check for $1500 on Jan.14, 2019. He cashed check. I've tried to contact him on numerwous regarding completing the job and he has not called me back. I've left messages including a refund and he has not responded

WARNING: We had worked with the owner Rich C on several projects and he had gained our trust. This time he took our money and disappeared.
We had worked with the company and the owner Rich C on several projects. He had always done great work and was trustworthy. Something has changed. WARNING! Because we had worked together in the past, we were comfortable in giving him $1,500 upfront. He has now disappeared and is not returning our calls.
We went to the address listed for his business on SunBiz and it appears to be an abandoned house. We then went to the alternate address listed on the internet for the company, "Luz C, ***" and as it is a gated community, we had the guard call the house.
The guard got in touch with the residents but they refused to see or even speak with us.
We need the work done or our money back from this company. Next steps will be small claims court as we cannot afford to lose $1,500, nor should anyone be allowed to steal money from customers.

I hired Rich the owner in June of 2018 he requested half the amount cane back Dec to do refinish asked for another 500 and never came back .
I hired Rich because he was referred by an interior designer and known for his quality work he was not cheap but I hired him anyway . He sent some guys for the initial work then leaving the steps unfinished until I decided on a color . At this point I had paid 1k dollars and owed the balance when job would be completed he came back in Dec himself and asked for 500 cash I found it odd but gave a check and had a bad feeling he was suppose to come back the following day . No show I called and texted him for a week he said after a week of promising to come back that he is not going to finish the job . I asked for my 500 back he never responded This is stealing.
