Take One Performing Arts Academy

Review: My twelve year old daughter went for an audition on May **, 2013. At the audition they ask for $100 check which will only be deposited if your child is offered a role in the play. We were informed that they would be making phone calls within a few days of the audition to notify you if you were in the play. After a week and not hearing from them I saw my bank statement and realized that my check was cashed May **, 2013. I called them and was told "your daughter is being offered a role and we will let you know at the end of the week what it is." A week passed and I never received a call. At this point she is thrilled and telling everyone "I am in the play, I just don't know what part I have yet." Everyday until June * she comes home from school and asks me "did they call, what role did I get?" Everyone asks her constantly, her drama teachers at school, friends and family. June *, we stop in and are told that rehearsals have began and she is not in the play. Then I am informed that "I should be very aggressive in trying to receive my refund because they are not to efficient with the refunds." I feel that they used my money unfairly for three weeks. I should have been given a refund immediately. Not only is this about the money but it's about hurting, and disappointing a twelve year old. Who has been crying for 24 hours non-stop. I don't even know how to console her. To not be offered a role would have been fine. She would have been disappointed and tried out for another play at a later date. That's understandable. But to be told "you daughter is definitely in the play, otherwise we would never of cashed the check." Then wait for weeks to hear her role and find out that they are rehearsing for the play and she's not in it and I have to follow up with them to get a refund. I want this complaint on file because no one, especially a child should have to go through something like this. She has to now tell everyone "oh, they made a mistake and I am not in the play."Desired Settlement: I want my money back without having to fight for it and chase after them. I also want this to be kept on file in case this is something that this theatre does on a regular basis. It is emotionally disturbing and unfair to do something like this to anyone, let alone a child.
