Review: My average water usage is 1000-1200 gallons a month ($60.00 to $75.00) and has been for several years. In March I received a bill showing I had used 61200 gallons water for an amount of $301.93! The previous meter reading according to their own records was 8600 now they say the current reading is 69800. I read the meter the day I got the bill and it was 8722. I contacted them about the error and was told to "Just pay the full amount and any credit will be applied to my account." I sent them a check for my average water bill of $70.00 which they cashed. After talking to the office manager I was told not to pay anything until they could resolve the billing issue. So I did not pay an April water bill. Which showed a current reading of 88000 meaning I had used 18,200 gallons (again according to their readings) I read the meter and took a picture of the meter indicating it was 8920. After several phone calls and promises to look into it I get a bill today showing I am past due $345.00 and I have used 1000 gallons back to my old average but the reading is wrong! I finally got a number to the person that was suppose to call me back "The Outside Manager" he told me that the owner of the company MAY take $50.00 off the bill but I was still liable for the amount due. Trying to communicate with these people is impossible as they stonewall you every chance they get. They have a monopoly on the lake addition I live in and they have poor service at best. They have doubled the cost of water, the service is at best pathetic and we are instructed by a metal sign at the front gate to BOIL our water at least twice a month. Seems funny that the Addition has a metal sign made up and always there indicating they have had a water leak. Service is at best pathetic, I have replaced two water heaters due to CRUD in the bottoms that I can not get out. I have three filters on my incoming water that I change MONTHLY and would not drink this water on a dare. The filters I change out Monthly are always cloudy and have settlement in them. I only use the water to shower and do dishes with. So I am out the added cost of filters, bottled water on top of this outrageous water bill.

Even the "Outside Manager" told me the company was having issues with their meter readers. They told me that the meter reader had to turn off my water hose as it was running when they read my meter, (no hose hooked up at that time!) then they recanted that line and ask me if I had a swimming pool, ( I do not) then they said someone must be using my water meter! Problem is its not the meter its the reader and the billing that is out of whack! The readings are not out of adjustment the billing is the issue.

I understand that the company has filed for bankruptcy and is trying to sell. Maybe their way out of bankruptcy is to over charge people.Desired Settlement: Correct my billing using the actual meter reading and not a mistake that is costing me money.

Review: I am the resident along with the mother of the property owner, we are both seniors 68 and 63. I am disabled and had no need to check the meter box for a leak. I was billed a large amount due to a leak. I called them out to fix the leak, and they said it was on my side of the meter (at the meter). They also said they knew it was leaking four months ago. They never told us or left a note on the door, just let it leak. First 3,200 then 2,700 then 8,400 gallons and now 32,000 gallons in a month... There is no way two seniors used that much water. (We do not wash cars here) I called to talk to the boss, but was given a run around. He will call you back they said. He did not. This is not good business in a time of drought, for a company to allow a leak with out reporting it to the responsible party. Both the repair man and the meter reader said this was leaking for at least four months... ([redacted] and [redacted] are their names). I would like this resolved and my bill adjusted. I do not feel like I should pay when they knew it was leaking. My attempts to talk to the boss ([redacted]) have been in vain as the secratary who answers the phone is stonewalling me. I got his name from The Texas Commissions on Environmental Quality or I would not even have that. PLease reply to this issue and tell me what I can do to resolve it. Thank you.Desired Settlement: I am more than willing to pay a monthly minimum, but feel they should resind the other amounts due to the fact that they failed to notify us of the leak which they knew about.( In these times of drought, as a water company they should be more careful.)

Review: Double charging late fee... Water bill Disconnect is 9/26/2014(Friday), today 9/29/2014Monday Water service still on ,went to office to pay bill, bill is 49.08 late fee is 5.00 Reconnect fee is 25.00.... Water service has not been disconnected but I am still charged 25.00 reconnect fee to draw a line through my name on list even though services were never disconnected.....This is a ridiculous and not the first time it has happened....I work out of town alot and am not aways in town when bill is due, I have requested the company step into the 2000's and open a web site as all other utility companys HAVE... No responce..... Ways to pay = Walk in with a check, walk in or call office with a credit card(credit cards billed convenience fee of 5.00) so long story short if you are not home to receive a paper bill through mail, you have to call their office and pay additional 5.00 with your credit card... or as I am forced to deal with, come back in town to find bill past due and pay another 25.00 for some one to strike my name off a disconnect list(nothing)...... This is a rip off anyway you look at it....If Mauka water can not afford a Web site(i don't see how with all the money the make from me) , perhaps Mauka water should get out of the utility business.....Desired Settlement: Would like for this company to wake up and get their game together and stop ripping people off, As many of us that live in rural areas don't have a choice of what company to do business with as with electric cpompanys

Response:

In reference to #[redacted] complaint the reconnect fee of $25.00 was waived to the customer due tothe fact the disconnect had not occurred. Texas Rain manages the Mauka Water System and our bills aremailed on the first of each month and payment is due by the 16th of each month without incurring a latefee. If the bill is not paid by the 26th of each month a work order is issued to our operator to disconnectthe service. We have informed the customer that he can pay on line through his bank with an automaticdraft. The customer has been on the system since October 23, 2012.
