The treatment plan is reviewed with the parent/guardian and must be signed and datedIt is always stressed that the estimated insurance coverage is just that, an estimateNotation on the treatment plan states that all insurance payments are an estimate and the total fee is the responsibility of the parent/guardianA dental office cannot guarantee what an insurance company will pay unless a predetermination is submitted to the insurance company prior to treatment being processedAn insurance predetermination can take up to eight weeks to receive from insurance companiesThere are some insurance companies which do not perform predeterminationAgain, we cannot guarantee what medical insurance may or may not refund the parent/guardianIn the case listed, our office originally filed the insurance claim with the dental insurance provided by the parent on the day of serviceWhen the claim was denied, it was resubmitted to the dental insurance company with a narrative and additional information regarding the procedure as requested by the insurance companyThe claim was then, again, deniedIt was at this point our office spoke with a representative from the dental insurance company and supplied them with a copy of the chart notes for reviewNine months had passed during this insurance process and no additional billing had been submitted to the parent/guardian as our office was doing our best to work with the dental insurance companyThe claim was denied again for the final timeIt was at this point, the unpaid balance for this procedure was submitted to the parent/guardian and an offer for a payment plan was establishedWe apologize for any confusion
