I spoke to the owner of the Maids, [redacted], he came to my home to see the 3 complaints that I have against his cleaning service. He also called me and said that he is...

not responsible for the pen stain left on my comforter. He offered to paint one wall of my home where the cleaners vacuum backpack scratched the wall. He asked me to get a quote from Bath Fitters to replace the track under the shower door in my bathroom. Bath Fitters left me a voice mail that to come to the house the fee is $125, plus $125 per hour to replace, plus $75. I plan to call Mr. [redacted] and to provide the quote to him. Mr. [redacted] told me last week that he is out of town and asked if we could resolve this in March when he returns to CT. I told him yes, I will wait until March. Please see my original complaint regarding these 3 issues.

Review: I hired The Maids of Southbury, CT to clean my home one time for $319.05 on Jan. 30th. When I arrived home, I noticed 5 wet paper towels left on my bad still damp with ink stains on it. When I picked up the paper towels I noticed an ink stain on my comforter that was not originally there. The track on the bathroom where the shower doors rest was scatched-I have about 3 (12 inch scathes on the track) which were not originally there. Also, my hallway has several scathes on it - I assume from the backpack vacuum which the cleaners used. I call The Maids on Jan. 30 to let them know about these 3 issues with their cleaning service. The owner agreed to come to my home this morning and told my husband that the cleaners did not drop a pen on my bed, did not scratch the track under our showers doors and someone took a screw driver and scratched our walls. First of all, why would the wet paper towels be left on my bed hiding an ink spot, second in cleaning the track under the shower doors they scrathed the track and it looks terrible and thirdly I just paid $3,000 to have the inside of my home paint a few months ago and certainly did not use a screwdriver on my walls. The owner told my husband that he is not going to do anything and is not responsible. I stopped payment on my check today and also cancelled my debit card in case the service tried to process.Desired Settlement: I am appauled that the owner did not offer any consolation. When I originally called on Jan. 30th a woman at The Maids asked me if my comforter needed to be cleaned and I said yes. When I told the woman about the track in the bathroom she said to me sometimes in cleaning other things happen. I refuse to pay for their services unless they take care of the stain being removed from my comfoter, fix the bathroom track and have the small wall repainted.Thank you.

Response:

We never received the initial complaint from this customer. The complaint was sent to [redacted]. Our company is The Maids. Both companies are located in Brookfield, CT. The first we were aware of a complaint from this customer was when we received her check back from the bank on 02/06/2014 marked stop payment.

We performed an initial clean for the customer on January 30, 2014. The total for the cleaning was $319.05, which included a $40 off discount. The customer paid the team by check. The customer contacted us about some issues that she noted upon returning home after the cleaning was completed. She said that there were wet paper towels on the comforter with an ink stain, the track of the shower had been scratched and there was some damage to the paint on a wall in her home. The owner of The Maids went out to visit the customer on Monday February 3, 2014 to assess the damage.

The owner met with the customer's husband on February 3. We are unable to determine if the ink stain was caused by our cleaning crew because they were instructed by the customer's husband during the cleaning to put the laundry on the bed. It is unknown whether or not there may have been something in the laundry that caused the stain on the comforter. The owner informed her husband that we would talk to the cleaning crew about what they used on the shower track that may have scratched it and agreed to take care of painting the wall that was scratched as well. The owner never said that someone may have scratched the wall with a screwdriver, nor did he refuse to take accountability for the scratches on the shower track or the paint. During no point in the conversation did the customer's husband tell The Maids that they were refusing to pay for our services until the situation was resolved and that they had put a stop payment on the check.

The Maids received the stop payment on the check sometime around February 10, 2014 in the mail. The owner then contacted the customer and was unable to reach her so he left a message. The message stated that we had gotten the check back marked stop payment and did not understand why she would resort to this since we had agreed to take care of the damage to the paint and the shower track. He asked her to please call back when it was convenient. The customer called The Maids owner back and told him that she was instructed by Revdex.com to put a stop payment on her check when she registered her initial complaint. She informed him that she spoke the Bath Fitters regarding fixing the shower track and received an estimate. The Maids had yet to be paid for the job completed on January 30, 2014 since the payment was stopped. The customer and The Maids owner decided that since no payment was received for the cleaning, The Maids would not cover the cost of the damage. The customer could use the money saved from paying for the cleaning to pay for the damage to the shower track and paint. Since an agreement was reached by both parties, we consider this matter closed.

Yes, I was advised by Revdex.com to stop payment on the check. I told him I do not want to argue and trade telephone calls for the next month, and that I would accept his offer not to pay for the cleaning service and requested he respond in writing to Revdex.com. I accept his offer. I am very upset with the 3 issues caused by the cleaning service and I am sure that I am not the only customer who has issues as a result of the cleaning service but most likely the only one who took the time to contact Revdex.com.
