The UPS Store at Ninth Street Reviews (1)

I inquired about the price to print pages at this store. I was quoted a price. An unstated charge was added after I had completed the printing job. When I arrived at the store, I asked what the cost was to print something. The store owner responded that printing was 0.09/page. No other amount was mentioned. The owner then told me I could use the computer terminal (located on the north side of the store) to plug in my memory stick.I entered my stick, selected my documents and proceeded to print 8 pages. Some of these documents contained personal information. When the owner rang up my total, he informed me that the total charge was $2.80. 0.08 for each page and a 2.00 charge to use the computer. The 2.00 charge was never mentioned. I asked what that charge was for and the owner responded that it was "to cover the costs of printing" (comment written down at 1:58 pm on 5/13/14). I asked how that was different than the 0.09 charge mentioned when I inquired about price. The owner responded that "that doesn't cover my costs" (written down at 1:58 pm on 5/13/14). I then asked how I should print at the store without having to pay the computer charge given that a computer was needed to print. The owner responded that I "should print at home" (written down at 1:59 pm on 5/13/14). I left the store after this comment. As I was leaving the store, the owner said I should "ask others what their costs were."Upon arriving at my house, I called several businesses in the area to inquire as to the charge of printing a piece of paper. Prices range from 0.08 to 0.10. No business mentioned a further charge to use the computer. My complaint is that I proceeded to print my documents based on the quoted price of 0.09/page. It was only after my papers had been printed that I learned of the new charge. At this point I could either pay a charge that was unstated and not common practice or leave my documents (which contained sensitive information) with the business. Desired SettlementThe business should, at the very least, refund the 2.00 charge that was added after I completed my printing. My further hope is that the business's practice of adding unstated charges will be noted on its Revdex.com profile. Business Response Customer is being dishonest. ALL customers are told that there is a $2.00 "Computer Access Charge" to use our computers for printing, accessing the internet, etc. Furthermore, when the customer sat down to use the lobby computer, he was facing a large sign which states COMPUTER TIME RENTAL -- Computer Timeshare $1.00 / 5 minutes $.00 min charge. We are glad to supply a photo of this sign. The manager has the option to waive this $2.00 charge, but, the policy is clear and the sign is prominently posted by the computer.Consumer Response In paragraph one of its response, the business states that all customers are "told" about the charge. However, per the notes I took regarding the incident no explicit mention was made verbally to the access charge. As such, I was not "told" about the charge. Further, the business's mentions a sign that states a $1.00 charge for access to the computer and that 5 minutes or less would result in a $0.00 charge. This amount is different than the one charged; if access is only $1, why was I charged $2? Further and more importantly, the sign in question also indicates that 5 minutes or less of use would result in a $0.00 charge. I was on the computer for about 2 minutes, which per the business's sign, should result in a charge of $0.00. Per the business's response, then, the charge of $2.00 is more than the stated amount on the sign. As such, they have validated my claim that I was charged more than I should have been.
