Thrifty Car Sales of Memphis Reviews (8)

After putting $2000 down on a car was told three weeks later that I was not financed bring car back and they did not give me my money back. On September 8, 2014 I purchased a 2010[redacted] from [redacted] Car Sales of Memphis. I paid $2000 as a down payment signed all my paper work and drove the car home. About five days later Mrs. [redacted] called me and told me that I needed to do a phone interview with the bank that had financed me. I called the number that was given to me while on the interview with the bank they were asking me questions about the features on the car. [redacted] had told the bank that the car had features that were not on it. Pretty much that the car was fully loaded with navigation , sun roof, cameras, running boards and some other things. I told here that it did not come with those features after the interview she told me thanks and we ended the call. Around 9/18/14 Mrs.[redacted] called me and told me that I needed to come back in because they were going to have to re-contract the[redacted] and that she didn't know what was going on but the Sales Manager said there was a problem with the financing. I let her know that I would not be able to come back in until the following weekend which was 9/27/14 because my Job was sending me to Detroit. She said that would be okay all I had to do was signed a new contract. I thought that was all I had to do and I would be on my way back home which is 2 hours away. On 9/27/2014 I went to Memphis to [redacted] Car Sales. When I arrived I signed in and waited to be seen because Mrs.[redacted] was with another customer. When she was ready to see me she said that she would see what paper work the Sales Manager had for me to sign. While I was setting at her desk another sales Rep came to her desk and ask for the keys to the car because he had to get the millage off there for the contract which seem to be a little strange to me but I gave him the keys. He walked off with the keys and went into a office with the Sales Manager. Mrs.[redacted] came back to her desk and said that they were trying to get the paper work together and ask me could I go set in the lounge area and she will come get me when they are ready. Well I set In the lounge area for about 3 hours until I went to go see what was taking so long but all I they keep doing was giving me the run around and asking did I have someone that I could sign with me. I told them that I was not going to put anyone on there with me. I told them if they could not finance me then that is what they should have told me instead of lying to me I could have had someone follow me to Memphis and given them back there car. Instead of not telling me what was going on. I had my sister with me that witnessed the whole thing. I finally got tired of the lies and mess they were doing and ask them for my down payment back and that I would get someone come get me from Memphis and I would go home because something was not right. That's when the Manager came out and told me that he had someone to finance me he was just waiting on the bank to call him back, which was a lie. He just did not want to give me my money back. After waiting about another 2 or 3 hours it was almost closing time for them. I told Ed Torreze I think was his name the Manager I wanted my down payment back and I did not want the car because they were not conducting business in the right way. He was short with me and told me that he could not give my money back that night he would have to mail it to me or I could just come back and get it. I told him that I was not coming all the way back to Memphis he could just mail me my money but I needed something in writing. which that made him mad but he wrote it on some paper and signed it. But when I got the check a week later it was for $932 not $2000. The stub has some crap about a restock fee and refund. When I tried to call [redacted] car back they would not return my calls. Then I find out 10/17/14 that they had been shut down for some abnormal business acts. Mrs.[redacted] was the one who told me this because I had called her personal number that was on her card she gave me. Please help meDesired SettlementI'm seeking my $2000 down payment the money that I have had to pay out for the partial refund that was paid back to me only for the check to not clear and I had to pay the return check fees and all the overdraft fees. And if I have to seek legal actions I will seek payment for that as well. The gas that they owe me for not filling up the car when I first bought it because it was late and there Accounting office that take care of those things had went home for the day and I was told that they would reimburse me. And then the tank of gas I had in the car when I went to fill out the so call paper work and they kept the car. And just the stress from this hole mess that I have been threw about this car and my money. I am not a rich person and do not have money to just throw away. Business Response Mrs.[redacted], we are sorry to hear about your negative experience. We can not comment as to what the conversation you had with the lender was as they do not communicate the details to us. However they informed us that the reason they decided to not do your loan was because you were unable to provide proof of payoff on a previous auto loan. Hence the lender returned the contract to us and we were had you return the vehicle. When you initially executed your contract you signed documentation that said the loan was contingent upon final financing from the lender. On top of this, you also signed an agreement in regards to the refund policy that said you would be charged a restocking fee and applicable mileage. You were simply charged what the contractual obligation was and refunded the remaining amount. We are sorry the lender decided not to finance your loan, however that is out of our control and all of the paperwork signed says it is at the lenders final discretion. Thank You.

Bad Service with Thrifty Car Sales of MemphisI purchased a car with Thrifty car sales of Memphis in April 19 2014, It's a 2012[redacted] for $17.000, down payment $2000. I knew I don't have $2000 but only have $500 to put down cash. There was agreement with Thrifty and let me put down $500 on the car and they help me with the rest of the payment and said everything is approved and I can go home with car. I had the car for two weeks and after two weeks, Thrifty came back and had the car repossessed with no reason at all. so I ask them. Why are you taking the car back with no reason? They said the car have not been approved with[redacted]'s bank. I ask them. Why you let me drive the car without an approved with the bank? And the some day I got a letter from[redacted]'s Bank saying I was not approved and the reason why.I understand that much, and ask Thrifty can I please have my money back of $500 and go home. Thrifty say No. This is why I'm complaining because Thrifty Car Sales of Memphis is not going to give me my money back.Desired SettlementI want my money back from Thrifty Car Sales of Memphis.Business Response Ms [redacted] was actually approved by [redacted] Bank for this vehicle, but when the Bank checked with her employer, they could not verify her earnings which she had signed and stated as being correct. In light of this, the Bank refused to fund her loan. Ms [redacted] would not come to the dealership to discuss the matter, so we were forced to employ the services of a recovery service, who repossessed the car for us.In all such cases, we charge the following to the former customer:Repo fees;Mileage used @59 cents per mile;Restocking fees as the vehicle has to be re-detailed, cleaned, serviced and labeled again. In this case these items exceeded the $500 she had put down on the car. In very rare cases where it is not the customers fault, we waive all fees and charges, but this case, it was all the customers fault. We hope this answers all questions.[redacted],General Manager, Thrifty Car Sales.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I remember Thrifty car sale said they are not a renal place, but they charging me a renal fee of $250 which I did not renal the car. and they did not ask me to come in to discuss everything, the repo just show up at 1am and took the car. I did not lie about my income, I give them poof of my income and they figure it out and said they can work with that base on my income. Yes, I signed a statement with my in basic information which was correct. Final Business Response Unfortunately the dealership does not make the decision regarding the financing of your vehicle. The third party finance company which your contract is assigned to makes this determination. In your case, the finance company indicated that the information you provided to them on your signed credit application was false and therefore they would not finance your vehicle. You should be receiving a letter to that affect from them in the event you have not received such letter already. Additionally, you did sign our Bailment Agreement that states there is a $250 restocking fee plus a mileage penalty in the event a vehicles has to be taken back from a customer due to an error, lie, misstatement, or lack of participation on the customers part. Per the finance company, the information you provided was false, hence the restocking fee was charged.

we were sold a suv that had several defects. an we were told there were no problems.our[redacted] has been wrecked 2 times an the car fax we received states it was totaled out.The car lot sold it to us we have always smelled antifreeze the dealer said it was nothing. Its a 2009 it had 67,000 miles now it has a little over100,000.WE STILL make payments to[redacted] financal the amount of $348.PURCHASED ON 01/14/13 VIN#[redacted] DEAL#P1147 2009[redacted] SALES REP-[redacted] FOR 72 [email protected] APR WE PAID$1500 DOWN ALSO THEY CHARGED ME FOR GAP INSURANCE$750 .DOC FEE OF$499 My family size has grown an we cant trade it .NOT Tradeable THRIFTY KNEW THE VEHICLE IS DEFECTIVE AN SOLD IT AT FULL PRICE ANYWAY.They got shut down about 2months ago.I think they got closed down for this type of behavior.Desired SettlementI want all the money we paid as a down payment. We want all we paid to the finance Company.an the 750 they sold us for gap they knew it was no GOOD. I NEED A BIGGER SUVBusiness Response Mr.[redacted], We are sorry to hear about your negative experience. First, your vehicle has never been totaled as if it was, it would have a branded title and the lender would not finance your vehicle. While it may have indeed been involved in an accident, that does not make the vehicle defective. Statistically, many used vehicles are involved in accidents of varying damage. However the lender pulls a vehicle history report on all vehicles and as such, you can rest assured your vehicle was never totaled. In regards to you and your family growing, congratulations. However I would assume that the reason you are unable to trade your vehicle is because you are not putting enough money down to cover the potential negative equity in your trade. A dealer almost never refuses to trade in a vehicle, in most cases, the customer simply does not have or won't put down the amount of money a lender requires to pay off a car. Please understand that the dealership has done nothing wrong in this matter and as such we can not refund you back money on a car you purchased almost 2 years ago. Also you will be happy to know that no one "shut down the dealership". Thank you.

I seen a T.V ad saying you don't need credit or have bad credit and zero down payment we'll get you in a car.I had went to the dealership and they took me information then they said I don't have good credit after the T.V ad said no credit bad credit no problem we still put you in a car at zero down payment And I feel that is false advertisingDesired SettlementThis is false advertising Business Response We are sorry to hear about your negative experience. The ads you are referring to are separate promotions. All of the applicable information is properly disclosed on all advertisements. There is a promotion for guaranteed credit approval, then there is a separate promotion for zero money down, then there is a separate promotion for very low monthly payments. Additionally, all of our promotions clearly state with approved credit. We are sorry you were unable to be serviced at the dealership, however this simply appears to be a lack of understanding on the promotions. Thank you.

On august 23 ,I purchase a car from thrifty car sale(salesman [redacted]) on sept 1[redacted] called me at 1806 hr to ask for my bank statement. I informed him that I wasn't going to give him my bank statement. He informed me to returned the car at 1934 hr. I arrived at car lot. I was given a roll form that state my name, amount, miles and was told that I had to pay 250 dollars for restock fee,59 cents per miles on the car by manger[redacted]. He stated that I could pick up my check of 313 dollars on wednesday, when I called the sales lady asked my name and I stated my name and asked for[redacted], she put me on hold an then hung the phone up. I called back and then she stated[redacted] was a conference called and I could pick my check up next week.Desired SettlementI just want to get my 750 dollars back.Business Response Ms.[redacted], We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with your vehicle purchase. When you purchased your vehicle from the dealership you were informed that you would need to provide proof of income as well as other items required by the lender to verify all of the information that you submitted on your credit application. The finance company requested a copy of your bank statement in order to verify your income. You decided that you did not want to provide that information to the finance company and therefore they did not finance your vehicle for you. The documentation you signed says that a purchase is done continent on financing and that documentation and support may be required by the finance company in order to finalize your loan. As you opted against completing the loan, the fees were charged to you as stated in the agreement which you signed. In the event you have not already picked up your check for the remaining balance, please let us know when you would like to do so. Thank You.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)On September 15,2014, I SPOKEN WITH [redacted] ABOUT MY REFUND. [redacted] TOLD ME THAT THE CHECK WOULDN't BE READY UNTIL MONDAY. I WAS NOT INFORMED ABOUT NO BANK STATEMENT. I SPOKEN WITH [redacted] WITH CREDIT ACCEPTANCE AND SHE INFORMED THAT THEY SIGNED ME UP FOR DIRECT DEPOSIT BUT SHE HAD NO PAPER WORK THAT I SIGNED FOR IT. I JUST WANT THEM TO SEND MY CHECK TO MY RESIDENT, THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THAT [redacted] LIED ABOUT WHEN THE CHECK WILL BE READY.I GAVE THEM THREE CHECK STUBS AND THEY CALL MY JOB TO VERIFY MY INCOME .Final Business Response Mrs.[redacted], we are sorry to hear about your negative experience. As we already said, the lender required proof of checking in order to finance your loan. As you stated, you refused to provide that information to the lender, hence they would not complete your loan. As such, your vehicle had to be returned to the dealership and the refund policy which you signed prior to taking delivery of the vehicle came into affect. The refund policy clearly states there is a restocking fee as well as mileage charged upon the return of the vehicle. It was obviously your choice to not provide the lender with the information which they requested, however that was the cause of you having to return the vehicle and being charged the applicable fees which you signed for. Thank you.

The worst experience of my lifeI went to Thirfty car sales on April 24, 2013 to purchase a 2012[redacted]. My application was submitted and I was told I needed 2,000 down. I advised the salesman Mr.[redacted] I did not have 2,000 I only had 500. I thank him for his time and headed home once I made it home I received a phone stating "my manager said he can get you in the car if you can come up with 750" I said ok that's fine I will be back in the morning, I come back the next morning he say" oh the car we can get you in hasn't arrived off the truck yet" im wondering the car I picked out was on the lot he says "we got you into a 2012 [redacted]" he then shows me a model like the 1 im supposed to be waiting on he states it should be here this afternoon, I call and call and call no car finally 3 days later he calls and says "my manager says we can get you in a 2011 [redacted]" I asked what happened to the other car, im told this is all your approved for. Me being a 1st time buyer didn't want a co-signer said ok. I show up to do the paperwork I ask the salesman, my mom is paying the down payment by check(who is not present) will I need to deposit the check in my account or can you accept due to her absence, or its no problem we can accept. I take the vehicle for a test drive the sterring wheel shook more than a earthquake, tire pressure light was on, clacking noise under bottom per the salesman all of this will be fixed before you leave. I sign the paperwork they tell me they need a copy of my mom DL so the salesman follow me to my mom house get her DL and has her sign a piece of paper that he states is her recipt for the down payment that's a lie( it was a blank copy of a loan pay recipt) we came to find out later thirfty was taking 184.00 a month out of my mom account saying she signed a paper for a 3,000 down payment loan to be paid over 12 months her name is not listed on the car she was not present at the signing the paper he gave her was blank and later filled out by the sales associate. Not to mention I had service done on my vehicle 8 times from the date of purchase my vehicel never was inspected, never was fixed, the mechanic told me it is a safety hazard to drive due to salt has eaten away at the bottom of the vehicle everything underneath is rusted, the vehicle was wrecked and put back together badly. But most of all I want my elderly mothers money back that is being take out of her account. The salesman when brought to their attention told me to call the 1-800 number who is a 3rd party they have no copy of the contract and can not stop the payments. They also have my down payment listed as 2,000 but taking 3,000 from my mom whose only income is SSI. This company is a major rip and deserves to be shut down. We need to be given our money back for repairs and for thr fraud papers you produce to take out her account.Desired SettlementThe 3,000 that is being taken out of my mother's account whose name isn't on the account or wasn't present at the time of signing of paperwork. They took her information off the check for my down payment and our debiting out here account even after the comapny is shut downBusiness Response Mr.[redacted], we are sorry to hear about your negative experience. In regards to the vehicle your purchased, the dealership has a form that is called a "We-Owe" it is a contract that cleary states any items the dealership has promised to fix for you. It is signed off on by both the buyer and a manager. Upon reviewing your We-Owe, it does not appear that the dealership made any promises to you regarding the repairs you mentioned, Do you have a separate copy of this contract for us to review that does say you were promised some repairs? I ask as we do not sell vehicles that have major mechanical repairs at the time of purchase as of course a customer will not buy a broken car. So I would assume you had some mechanical issues after the purchase date? Either way, please provide us with the "We-Owe" form and we will be happy to honor the contract. In regards to the loan you took out for your down payment, the salesmen was correct. You did not take a loan out from the dealership. You/Mom contracted with a 3rd party loan company and they provided the dealership with the money. They provided the dealership with #2000, however like any other loan company, they charge interest and fees so the amount owed to them is higher than the amount borrowed. With that said, you would need to contact that company with any questions regarding the loan. As far as the salesmen having your mother sign a blank contract and passing that off as a receipt, that seems hard to believe. Especially as you said that the salesmen followed you home and you were there when she signed the document. It is hard to believe that someone would confuse a receipt for a loan contract. This only leaves us to believe that something has happened recently and you are no longer able to pay the loan hence the reason you have placed a complaint. Especially as you purchased your car and have been paying back your loan since April. So you/Mom have made about 6 payments on your loan and are only now saying something? Finally, the loan agreement and the vehicle purchase are 2 completely separate items as the dealership is not the loan company. That is the reason why only you are on the automobile loan and only mom is on the down payment loan. Please feel free to reach out to the down payment loan company with any questions about your/moms loan. Thank you.

It's time to have my car serviced and they've closed their business and I've pre paid for services that I cant receive. I've tried calling no answerI paid for 2 free oil changes that I cant receive because thrifty has closed their business.Desired SettlementI'm seeking the money I prepaid for 2 free oil changesBusiness Response Mrs[redacted], we are sorry to hear about your negative experience. While the service department is currently closed and unable to assist you we are working to open back up in the near future and would be happy to complete your service then. Thank You.
