HOMEOWNERS BEWARE - Noncompliance of contractual agreement. Unprofessional and unresponsive customer service - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!We contracted the business in December of 2015 to assist with repairs during our renovation project. We were informed it was a family owned business with over 30 years of home remodeling experience. We read reviews and researched the company website. We provided the business owner with a key as we live in another state and asked that the key and security code not be shared. We were assured by the owner that he would oversee the projects and respect the home. Constantly we found the doors and windows were left opened and unlocked. When we confronted him he was not honest. He would give the keys to the workers because he may not show up to work until late afternoon and some days not at all. Trash was left in the house and in the front yard and workers were smoking in the home. The owner was never on time for meetings and never offered an apology, but always made excuses as to why the work wasn't completed timely or professionally. Work was not consistent, owner contracted day laborers without proper skills to do work. Projects were left incomplete and things were broken and covered up. Bathroom shower was broken during installation and covered up with cardboard and tape. Master bathroom was inoperable due to the tile work in shower and workers defecated in toilet and left it. When we confronted the owner he became belligerent and unresponsive.Owner was contracted to paint the interior of home, they did not scrape and prime the walls before painting. The job was never completed to our satisfaction. Paint was left on our brand new kitchen and bathroom cabinets.Owner was contracted to install new tile in the master bath. He hired a painter to do the tile work. The painter complained that he did not like to do tile work and the finished product validated his claims. Owner did not complete the powerwash job he was contracted to do.The hood of our pre-existing washing machine was broken from someone sitting or standing on. Pipes in the kitchen and bathroom were removed and not replaced. Items were removed from the bathroom without our permission causing us to have to replace a tub and shower as well as the stained toilet. From the website: "My range of expertise is from handyman punch list to major renovations, no job is to small from hanging blinds to major renovations and repairs. I can serve as a consultant on any project", We beg to differ: when given the task this owner displayed very unprofessional behavior, hew was late for every appointment, he was argumentative, unresponsive and unwilling to provide a resolution to the issues disclosed above. We communicated our desires verbally as well as electronically. We were good paying customers trying to support our local businesses. WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY FOR HOME RENOVATION PROJECTS. The owner says "I offer guaranteed top quality personalized work with a warranty. I am fully insured", however, when given the opportunity to resolve our paint, tile work, shower install issues, he is non-responsive. We do not feel that we have received top quality work or service from this company. We have asked the owner to return our keys to the property. We have not received them.Desired SettlementWe would like for the owner to resolve the following issues: 1. Repair Interior Paint job 2. Replace / repair the broken shower panel3. Replace the stained toilet4. Complete Powerwash of house5. Repair Bathroom cabinet6. Repair / replace tile work in master bathBusiness Response We stop work for non-payment I spent over 50 hours minimum going and getting material for the job taking things back meeting with over for subcontractors for heating and air electrical and plumbing trying to get prices that they were happy with which took away the time for me actually working on the job this is something we do all the time but once I do not get paid for something I shut things down as for as for the tile I had a professional Tire tile guy in there running the tile and the person that their neighbors all come in there was my painter and he was cleaning the tile for me not setting tile and grouting tile just cleaning it with any [redacted] can do as for the toilets we install the new one they both took the old one out and 1 bathroom and replace the same one back I am not responsible for any rust and as for any Plumbing that was cut off and run under the floor and not fixed they never made the decision with a plumber and I had to do my job so I could get some kind of money out of them so we did what we had to do at the time as for the sheetrock I had talked to her over the phone when we started painting and I noticed all kinds of nail pops and Imperfections I told her I would get it Rental ready not new home ready we went above and beyond the Call of Duty also considering the amount of money that I gave her or she gave me and I had professional sheetrockers in there along with myself and we kept pointing up pointing up pointing up that house is so old nail pops keep popping out she should have had the whole thing of sheetrock as for as far as the crack in the shower stall it was delivered that way or actually I picked it up and once we opened it up it was cracked and considering I hadn't been paid for all my other trips to keep this project going I decided that we're just going to install it but I didn't have time anymore to just run around and it could have been fixed so I was going to get it fixed out of my own pocket if I had gotten my money for all the coordinating and ContractingConsumer Response The business owners accounts of non-payment is incorrect. He was paid for each invoice/email request in a timely manner. Our agreement was that he was to be paid upon the completion of the work done and if a draw was required for materials we would do so. Each request was reviewed and agreed upon by both the business owner and the homeowner. We have gone above and beyond in reference to payments. The business owner would send an email on Wednesday requesting payment on Friday and we would oblige. We have gone so far as to deposit the funds in his personal bank account so he would have the money to pay his workers. There was an instance where he asked us to write a check for $2755 so he could do mobile deposit, once he realized he could not deposit over 2000 via mobile deposit, he contacted us to meet with him at Lowes to write two separate checks, one in the amount of $2000 and the other for the remaining balance. As for the time spent with contractors, the business owner asked to be the project manager. We were fine with obtaining our own contractors, but because he had over 30 years of experience, we assumed he had better connections. We also met with more than half of the contractors with the business owner and met with some of them on our own because he was late for the meetings or a no show. There was one contractor that we wanted to work with but because of the business owners delinquency in responding the contractor refused to work with us. In reference to the tile professional, the business owners allegations are untrue. The gentleman that was installing the tile was also the painter. He confessed to the neighbor that he was a painter and did not like to do tile work, but was helping out because he needed the money. When we confronted the business owner, he informed us that he had in fact done the tile work himself which we knew was untrue. To further confirm these allegations the painter was cleaning the tile when we arrived at the home. Furthermore, why would the painter be cleaning the tile if the professional had done the work. The business owner shut off the plumbing, he did not inform his workers that the plumbing was shut off and as a result, the workers defecated in the toilet and left it there for weeks causing the stain in the toilet. With regards to the paint, the business owner started the paint job in December of 2015 and as of March had still not completed the paint job.We had numerous conversations with the business owner about his term "Rental Ready", this is my childhood home and I want to treat the home as my own in the event I choose to move back into the property someday. We asked that he not treat the home as a rental but to do the job as if we were to live in it. As for the nail pops we asked him to repair the nail pops. That was the purpose of having the sheetrock professional come in. The business owner never showed us the nail pops, we pointed them out to him.As for the cracked shower, the business owner never once told us that the shower was cracked, they covered it up and it wasn't until we checked the water pressure, that we realized there was a huge hole in the floor. Final Business Response The to check she's referring to that is correct that's what happened but I did not get paid for $750 for Contracting and running again material she can use that money to repair her shower I personally ran to tile and did the best we could with the framing that was in This Old House as far as her cabinet she picked out a cabinet had drawers in the way of the plumbing and I explained to him before they picked it out what size where they needed cabinets and they still got something that the doors and the way the plumbing so it's going to cost her extra for me to reconstruct the cabinet drawer so it will work and I have nothing further to say about her sheetrock I'm not going to keep repeating myself and going over the same thing we have not been in that house and almost 3 months and I don't want her to show me a contract signed by both of us I wrote so many different prices on stuff I got confused every time I turn around they didn't they wanted the new price it couldn't keep up with their paperwork the last payment I received was given to my son I was out of town so he met with them and it was short $750 I have no desire to go back and work for them anymore I suggest they take the money that they owe me and get somebody else to finish up this is the first and only disgruntled customer I've ever had since 1978
