Review: I went to the Treasure Hunt dealer in Latrobe Plaza 4/14/14 with a 1994 P proof in original box with COA papers. The young lady there who looked totally confused offered me 35.00!!! When I asked her if she knew what a Grey Shhet was and the value of coin? She replied No. When I advised her that coin was worth between 150.00 to 200.00 dollars, I was told that was not possible. I politely asked her that she might want to check with someone else, she replied she had to go buy her sheet!! Really!! You advertise to treat customers great and pay the most!! If someone without the knowledge and sold that coin they would have been cheated out of possibly 150.00 dollars. Therefore I believe your advertising is very deceptive at the least. Thank you.Desired Settlement: To make sure customers know that advertising is misleading.

Good afternoon,

My name is [redacted] and I am the Director of Operations for Coins Inc. DBA Treasure Hunt. I am writing in response to complaint #[redacted] which was submitted on 4/15/2014.

Review: Tuesday August 12th, 2014 - McNight Road Store between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM- Exchange amount $416.43, Check No. [redacted], payable to same name listed above."Treasure Hunt" clearly advertises ([redacted]) that they (Treasure Hunt) buys diamonds and that they have trained staff and special equipment for determining the value of said gems. However, during my visit there, I submitted my old "Diamond" engagement ring; I was told by the clerk that they do not purchase said gems (diamonds) but instead give you the weight of the precious metal that holds the gem, less the weight of the gem itself. In other words, no money whatsoever for that diamond. [redacted] There are newer ads that are exclusive to diamond purchasing being run now, August, 2014.Desired Settlement: Require Treasure Hunt to pull (remove entirely) the (diamond purchases)misleading ad from all forms of media or see if this particular store is not acting within the Company's actual intent.I was also told that "we then simply scrap the gems and only pay for the gold or silver" (within their parameters 10 caret or better) but not the stones." And, we would like to be paid for the average diamond cost, total diamond weight 1 carat, (1) 3/4 and an additional five small surrounding diamonds.

Response:

Good afternoon,

My name is [redacted] and I am the Director of Operations with Coins Inc. DBA Treasure Hunt. I am writing in response to complaint iD# [redacted] that was filed by Ms. [redacted] on August 19th. In her complaint, Ms. [redacted] states that she sold some items to our McKnight road location on August 12th totaling $416.43- which included amongst her items a diamond marquise engagement ring. Ms. [redacted] stated that she would like us to remove any advertising that we run regarding the buying of diamonds as she was told that we "do not purchase said gems (diamonds) but instead give weight of the precious metals that hold the gems." I can assure you, that is not the case. We ABSOLUTELY buy diamonds at every Treasure Hunt location every day. I believe, in looking at a photo of the items that we purchased from Ms. [redacted], that she may have misunderstood the sales consultant [redacted], as we are unable to pay up on most semi-precious stones- such as the pearl and blue stone (from the photo it appears to be possibly a small sapphire) that she sold on that day, as there just is not a strong resale market for them. Regarding the diamond engagement ring, you can see from the attached photograph that there is a crack in the stone that is visible to the naked eye. Unfortunately, given the size and location of that crack, we would not be able to pay for that particular diamond. In some cases, where there may be a small crack, we can have the stone recut and are able to salvage the diamond. In this case, in all honesty, there is a good chance that stone could crack in half as soon as it is removed from the setting and it unfortunately cannot be resold damaged. I certainly apologize if there was any confusion about how she was compensated for her items- particularly the marquise diamond- and I will meet with [redacted] to ensure she understands the importance of explaining the transaction in detail to our customers in the future to avoid any such confusion arising again.
