Valley-Wide Paving, Inc. Reviews (2)

Review: On September 6, 2012, I signed a contract with James R. Carter Paving,Inc. /Valley Wide Paving to asphalt my driveway. He was to start the next day. I paid him $ 6200 which was 1/2 the contract price. He didn't show up. On September 25, 2012 after numerous phone calls, mostly leaving voice messages because he would not answer my calls, his crew showed up,scrapped the gravel off my driveway, dug out from behind the curb and left. On September 28,2012 his crew returned, did some grading and sawed the concrete curb for the curb cut. On October 22,2012 the crew returned and brought in and spread some base material. They left never to return. In December 2012 I gave up trying to contact James Carter by phone. On February 5 2013 I mailed Carter a certified letter. He never accepted it. In late February, I hired a Contractor to pour the concrete for the curb cut so I could enter my drive from the street. In June 2013 I paid another Asphalt Contractor to pave the drive. As of this date I have not heard from James Carter.Desired Settlement: I am willing for Mr. Carter to withhold a reasonable amount for the work he did and to refund the balance of the $ 6,200 to me.

Review: Signed a contract on 9-14-2013 with James R. Carter Paving, Inc., also known as Valleywide Paving, to have former driveway taken out, gravel put down to at

least 4 inches, and apply 3 inches of asphault (after compact). They took out old driveway, carried off the debri, and put some gravel down but not the 4 inches

for the whole length of driveway and have promised on numerous occasions to come back and finish, and we have called (both of us) many, many times (more than 3, probably more like l0-15) and have not seen them. Additonally, we were kind enough to give them an extra $l,000 when they finished what they did so they could meet payroll but we still owe them some, which you would think they would want to receive. They keep promising but don't show up. Winter is coming and [redacted] is a l00% disabled veteran. We are having to park our vehicles on

the street and carry groceries, etc., in. We need to have this driveway completed and completed correctly according to the contract. Please, please help us in any way you can. WE NEED TO GET THIS DONE.Desired Settlement: Finish the job or let us know if he is or not so we could get someone else. Winter is coming and there is not much time left to get this done so we can get wheelchairs etc. up the driveway because there is a bank in front of the house that would be hard to negotiate with a wheelchair. Thanks for any help you can give us. This is not right to take advantage of senior citizens and they know it!!!

Business

Response:

Mr. Carter states he went to the consumer's and completed the driveway the day the consumer filed the complaint.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

In regard to our former complaint regarding Valleywide Paving, after looking over the driveway further, we believe that there are a few areas that need some more work. This was done in the name of James R. Carter Paving.

Some places look like 4 inches and other places don't look like that much toward the outside edges. Also, it appears to us that a little more work might be needed in the front where we can see gravel that doesn't look like it has enough of the asphault covering it. In other words, it appears to us that those gravel could become loose with winter weather, etc. There also looks like some streaks in the front where perhaps it wasn't rolled enough or with enough asphault or "tar"or whatever they use.

We are not experts on paving, but the appearance in the front could be a little better. In other words, it doesn't look as good as a driveway done in our sub-division lately by another company. Also concerned about some of the edges that don't look like they might have enough asphault.

Carter is supposed to pave a driveway next door to us this week and perhaps they could do a little more work on ours while they are there.

Regards,
