Person didn't honor verbal warranty of work performed on digital piano.
Valley Wide Electronic owner [redacted] made a service call to my house on approximately Nov. 15, 2011 to fix four sticking keys on my Yamaha Clavinova digital piano. The only other repair I had had work on my piano, fixed the three sticking keys on site. [redacted] told me he wanted to take the entire keyboard back to his shop so that he could fix the stuck keys and check the other keys to make to that he replaced any that were close to going bad so that I didn't have the same thing happen again.

I didn't get the key board back until February 6th. When I would call him, he was "waiting on parts" from the manufacturer. One time he call left a voicemail he would be coming the next week but I never heard from him at all that week. When he did bring the keyboard back he put it together and played it once and said it was fixed. I was charged 359.31. He said if there were any problems to give him a call because he guarantees his work.

We didn't play the piano for about three weeks when my daughter started piano lesson. As soon as she started playing, one of the keys was sticking. Several week later I called [redacted] to let him know. I told him that when he was in the area, I would appreciate him coming by to fix it. He agreed. He never call and never called. I called back around the 1st part of April, finally I got a call towards the end of April that he could come out May 1st. By now we had three keys not working. Both times I had told him the keys so he could bring them with him. When he arrive, (late) he came in and starting taking my piano apart. I was in the other room. He called me in and told me I had a problem. He said some of the keys were broken. He wiggled a key to show me how loose it was and triend to point at the back of it to show me how the plastic was broken. He had me wiggle the loose key and a non loose key so I could see the difference. Only the key that I was wiggling wasn't one of the keys needing fixing. I asked why and he said that it would eventually break like the others. He said he needed to take my keyboard back to his shop again so he could fix the stuck keys and the keys that were broken. I asked about the fact that he had just fixed the piano keys that were stuck. He said they weren't the same keys, they were older keys because they had dust on them. I looked at all the keys and everyone of them had dust on them. HE said he wouldn't "nickel and dime me." I pressed me about the "broken key" because I couldn't see where it was broken. I took the key out of the keyboard and turned it over. The end was not symmetrical. One side comes to a point, the other is beveled. He told me that the beveled side was broken. It didn't look broken as the edges were clean. He took the key from me and said that the plastic gets brittle and they break easily. He then proceeded to break the side that comes to a point and said, "see they are brittle."

I asked him to determine how many of the keys were "broken" prior to working on them and call me once he got back to his shop. In the mean time, once he left I got online and found out the keys are designed asymmetrically and that is wasn't broken until he popped it on the opposite side!

I called a piano store that happened to be a branch of the store I bought this piano and they said that Yamaha would replace the keyboard for free! That any reputable dealer would know that. If the owner of Valley Wide Electronics had indeed ordered parts for my piano from Yamaha, he should have know that too!
