Review: My home was damaged by Super Storm Sandy. We lost our three cars, washer, dryer, clothing, boiler and the entire contents of the entire lower level of our home. We didn't have heat or hot water until right before Thanksgiving. [redacted] from VAR Home Improvements, Inc. installed a new boiler in my home on 11/**/12, the cost being $6,000. Immediately, we were concerned about the loud noise that emanated each time the boiler went on. We heard the sound three flights up, and the house vibrated. We were advised that it was due to the fact that we hadn't had our walls put back yet, that it was an echo. So, we waited.On 12/**, Slomin's responded to our concerns. They repaired a leak @ the 1 1/2" fitting. Peanut bleeders were installed. On 12/**, I contacted [redacted], wherein he stated that he would get back to me. On 12/**, Slomin's replaced the nozzle, adjusted and cleaned the burner. On 02/**/13, Slomin's serviced the boiler again. On 02/**, I contacted Slant/Fin & explained our plight. On 02/**, Slomin's adjusted the airgate and pump of the boiler. On 07/**/13, I contacted [redacted] again, and he said that he would contact Slant/Fin and get back to me, which he did not. I e-mailed him again on 07/**, 07/**, 07/** and 07/**. On 07/**, I called Slant/Fin again and gave him the # for Tech. Support. I called him again on 07/**, 08/**, 08/** and 08/**. On 08/**, I spoke with [redacted] at Slant/Fin. On 08/**, Slomins came to replace the freamatic knob and lead. On 09/**, Slomin's came and repaired the leak. On 09/**, I spoke to [redacted] from Slant/Fin. He will speak to [redacted], [redacted], and get back to me. I will call him on Monday, 09/**/13. Slomin's informed me that the boiler was too large for my home and that it was not installed correctly. I have a service contract with Slomin's, and they have been very nice in helping us, but I am being charged extra for their services. All I want is a boiler suitable to my home that works correctly. Please help me. I cannot take it anymore.Desired Settlement: I would like the correct boiler to be installed and this one to be removed.

ON 11/**/12 I INSTALLED A BOILER AT [redacted] IN OCEANSIDE. HOMEOWNER BEING [redacted]. [redacted] KNOWING THAT THE BOILER WAS OVER POWERED FOR HER HOME REASON BEING THAT THATS THE ONLY BOILERS

THAT WE COULD GET I HAD TO PYSICALLY GO TO CONNETICUT TO GET THE BOILER CAUSE IN NEW YORK YOU COULDNT FIND ANY OIL BURNERS BOILERS DUE TO THE STORM AND DEMAND WAS IMPOSSIBLE. ONCE BOILER WAS INSTALLED IT WAS LOUDER THEN THE OLD ONE

BUT THE HOME OWNER HAD HEAT AND HOT WATER WHICH THE SAME BOILER PRODUCED THE HOT WATER FOR BATHING. AFTER ABOUT 2 MONTHS SHE CALLED AND SAID THE BOILER HAS A LOUD NOISE COMMING FROM IT. SO I WENT TO HER HOUSE AND FOUND NOTHING TO BE WRONG WITH THE BOILER

IT WAS AND STILL IS WORKING FINE. SHE THEN WENT AND HIRED SLOMINS TO COME IN AND FOUND NOTHING TO BE WRONG WITH THE BOILER OTHER THEN BEING TO BIG FOR HER HOME WHICH WE ALL KNEW THAT CAUSE THATS ALL WE CAN GET. SLOMINS THEN FOUND A LITTLE WATER LEAK AND REPAIRED IT WHICH

HAD NOTHINY TO DO WITH HER COMPLAINT. I THEN WENT AS FAR AS SPEAKING TO A [redacted] AND [redacted] AT SLANT FIN (WHO IS THE MANUFACTURE FOR THE BOILER) AND THEY TOLD ME NOTHING IS WRONG. SHE THEN CALLED SLOMINS IN AGAIN AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THE WORK WAS DONE CORRECT AND

THE JOB WAS PAID IN FULL BY [redacted]. SHE WAS WARM WITH HEAT AND SHOWERED WITH HOT WATER AND NOW CAUSE ITS TOO LOUD SHE WANTS THE BOILER CHANGED. IF [redacted] PAYS ME TO CHANGE THE BOILER TO A SMALLER SIZE I CERTANLY WILL. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME AT

I was never informed that said boiler was too big for my home. If I had, I would have never allowed [redacted] to install it. I would have waited for Slomin's to replace it. I have been using them for years and am still under their service contract.

Immediately after said boiler was installed in my home, I complained to [redacted] about the excessive loud noise. I heard the noise three flights upstairs. I was informed that it was because there were no walls installed as of yet and that I should wait and contact him afterwards. After the walls were insulated and installed and the furniture was replaced, the noise remained the same. Even the contractors that were working in my home commented about its excessive loud noise. I made several attempts to contact [redacted], but he refused to return my telephone calls. It was not until I said to him that I would need to report him if he did not stand behind his installation that he called me back. He made an appointment to come to my home, at which time he apprised me that he had no idea why the boiler was so loud. He was going to contact Slant/Fin, ask their opinion as to what needed to be done and would call me back, which he never did. I personally contacted Slant/Fin numerous times and spoke to various individuals. I have the dates, times and individuals I spoke to documented. I questioned Slant/Fin several times as to whether [redacted] had contacted them, and they replied in the negative. After calling them a few times, I informed [redacted] of the gentleman's name and telephone number via e-mail, which I still retain. To date, I have not spoken to [redacted] again. In the meanwhile, I called Slomin's several times to repair the boiler, twice with a leaking pipe that needed to be soldered and various other issues that I have a receipt for. It was during one of their visits that I was first informed that the boiler was too large for my home. To this day, when the boiler comes on, it sounds like a rocket ship is taking off.

Please help me. I've been through a lot and cannot tolerate this contractor's lack of responsibility and professionalism.

AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED [redacted] IS A LIAR. REASON BEING IS THAT SHE KNEW THOSE WERE THE ONLY OIL FIRED BURNERS TAHT WE CAN GET AND HER FRIEND [redacted] ACROSS THE STREET FROM HER

WAS ALSO TOLD THE SAME THING, WE ALSO PUT A NEW OIL FIRED BOILER THERE ALSO. I MADE NUMEROUS AMOUT OF PHONE CALLS ABOUT THIS BOILER AND EVERYBODY SAID THE SAME THING

THAT THE BOILER WAS ONE, A NEWER VERISON OF WHAT SHE HAD TWO IT WAS BIGGER THEN WHAT SHE HAD. SHE NOW IS TRING TO GET A NEW BOILER WHICH WILL NOT HAPPEN UNLESS SHE PAYS FOR A NEW BOILER. NOTHING IS

WRONG WITH THE BOILER AS PER MYSELF, SLOMMINS, [redacted] AND [redacted] FROM SLANT/FIN. ITS AN UNFORTUNATE THING BUT THE DEMAND WAS VERY VERY BIG DUE TO THE STORM AND AVALIBILITY WAS VERY VERY SLIM, I HAD TO GO ALL THE WAY TO CONNETICUT TO GET THEM

AND ALL THE BOILERS THAT WE GOT WERE THE SAME SO THERE WAS NOTHING WE CAN DO. THE BOILER WORKS PERFECT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND I AM VERY SORRY FOR THIS INCONVENACE BUT THIS WOMAN IS TRYING TO GET A NEW BOILER OUT OF ME AND IT WILL

I do not wish to have a new boiler installed, especially one installed by this company, whom is quite unprofessional and deceitful. Like I mentioned in my prior correspondence, if I was informed that the boiler would be too large for my house, why on earth would I agree to that knowing that I could have received an appropriate sized boiler from Slomin's?

I have documentation as to when and with whom I spoke to when I contacted Slant Fin as well as copies of the e-mails, dates and times I wrote and attempted to contact [redacted] via telephone.

The boiler was also installed with many of the old parts of the old boiler I possessed and that is just one of the reasons why I've been experiencing so many issues with the boiler. I have the receipts for every time I needed to contact Slomin's for repair of the boiler, and never once did they say that there was nothing wrong with the boiler, that it was just fine. Why would I need to call Slomin's for a repair and wait hours in the house for their arrival if I wasn't experiencing a problem? Notwithstanding the fact that too large a boiler was installed without my approval, knowledge and excessive noise it expels, I would just like the boiler to work appropriately with the necessary and required parts, not leak, etc.

I do not know what arrangements he and [redacted] made. I do know that they also had leaks and additional problems with their boiler, and they also got it repaired by their oil company. There were no arrangements made with me, and [redacted] needed to speak to me personally if there was such an arrangement.

Just the fact that he called me a liar represents his lack of professionalism respect.
