Review: We went to see Village One Dental for an Orthodontic quote. My son needs braces so we were getting price quotes from various orthodontists in town. When making the appointment, we were told this was a "free" consultation. Upon receiving my statement of benefits from my insurance provider I discovered the dentist had billed out $150 to my dental plan for x-rays and $170 to my ortho plan for "consultation" for a total of $320. When I called into the office to complain, I was first told that "free" meant nothing was out of my pocket, but they still bill. I was then told I was only billed for x-rays and the consult was free. Later that day I received my statement of benefits from my insurance and noticed they billed for consultation as well. When I called back to complain I was told that is standard. They then proceeded to tell me that they told us this upfront, which is a lie. They refused to help and told me it would be better if I saw another Dentist.On another note, this Dentist is dishonest. He offered to do my sons braces at a rediculously low price if we allowed him to make my wife a retainer she doesn't need and bill out her ortho plan for the max $1000 to help pay for my son's braces. This is dishonest and unethical. This was the sole reason we decided to not use his services, but then the billing issues started.Desired Settlement: I want both my insurance plans (Dental and Ortho) refunded. The dentist has already received payment from my insurer, but it isn't right. We were told up front this was a "Free" consultation.

We never informed customer our consultation was free. This is just a misunderstanding based on an assumption that because other dental offices offered free consultations, we also did. We did inform customer that there may be no out of pocket expenses with the proper insurance coverage. We actually billed the insurance $60 for the consultation and $109 for the X-rays. For a total of $169 not $320. We spoke to customer's wife, who apologized for the misunderstanding.
