Review: My husband and I submitted an application July 22, 2014 to this business. At the time of our application, we were seeking a 1 bedroom unit on the first floor (because I am pregnant and did not want to walk up and down stairs), and no such unit was available at the time. [redacted] (representative of Vintage) told us that she would not run our application for approval or put us on a wait list for a unit unless we paid the non-refundable $100 application fee, in addition to a refundable $200 deposit intended for holding a unit. I did not feel comfortable paying a $200 deposit when there weren't even any units available, but she assured me that the $200 deposit was refundable if we did not sign a lease with Vintage. One month later, it was brought to our attention that a 1 bedroom, second floor unit would be available to us no earlier than October 10. Our current lease was due to expire September 25, so I told [redacted] that I needed to make sure I would be able to stay a few more weeks at my current apartment before I was sure that we wanted that particular unit. I advised [redacted] earlier last week that my husband and I were not interested in the particular unit, and as we had not signed a lease, I was expecting the $200 deposit to be refunded to me. She told me that I had 3 days to withdraw my original application and therefore I had passed the date (7/25) for which I could request my deposit back. I never signed a lease for the above unit, nor was the unit in question even available during those 3 days following my application. And if this was in fact their policy, why did she tell me I had to submit the deposit for holding a unit when there was no unit even available? If she had not lied to us, I would never have paid the deposit or even submitted my application for that matter- I would have waited until I knew of a unit available to submit the application with my husband and pay the required fees.Desired Settlement: I am looking to obtain my $200 deposit back.
