Virginia Asphalt Services Inc. Reviews (7)

In May or June, 2018, I contracted with Virginia Asphalt Services to repair some cracks and recoat my drivewayAfter weeks of waiting, they came and did patches to the cracked areas in my drivewayAfter repeated attempts to find out when they were going to coat the driveway, I was first told that their machine was brokenSeveral times over the course of the next months, they promised to come and cost the driveway but never showed upFinally, in October they came and coated the driveway with a very light coating and failed to fill in the remaining cracks in the drivewayAfter more complaints about the quality, they filled the cracks and reposted the driveway on last Thursday afternoon, even though rain was forecast on Friday and SaturdayAs a result, the coating washed off and into my lawnI have requested that they come and rake out the tar from the grass and recoat the driveway as promisedI am still awaiting a positive response

We contracted with VAS in May to pave our drivewayA portion of the existing driveway was gravel and had suffered from washouts due to runoff issuesThe importance of addressing the runoff problems was stressed to all of the Asphalt contractors with requested estimates fromEach contractor proposed a different solution to the runoff issueNick H*** from VAS told us the issue could be addressed by just properly grading the newly paved section of driveway
When the work was completed, we immediately noted that the paving had been completed in a manner that would trap the runoff and force it to run alongside the new drivewayWithin a month of the paving, rain had already begun to dig gulleys next to the driveway and begin to undermine it in spots
We contacted VAS and Nick came out to look at the situationHe agreed it was a problem and sent a team out to spread gravel along the uphill side of the drivewayThe gravel partially corrected the issue though runoff was still

Review: We contracted with VAS in May 2015 to pave our driveway. A portion of the existing driveway was gravel and had suffered from washouts due to runoff issues. The importance of addressing the runoff problems was stressed to all of the Asphalt contractors with requested estimates from. Each contractor proposed a different solution to the runoff issue. Nick H[redacted] from VAS told us the issue could be addressed by just properly grading the newly paved section of driveway.

When the work was completed, we immediately noted that the paving had been completed in a manner that would trap the runoff and force it to run alongside the new driveway. Within a month of the paving, rain had already begun to dig gulleys next to the driveway and begin to undermine it in spots.

We contacted VAS and Nick came out to look at the situation. He agreed it was a problem and sent a team out to spread gravel along the uphill side of the driveway. The gravel partially corrected the issue though runoff was still channeling against the driveway in some spot and continuing to undermine two areas of the driveway.

When we contacted VAS a second time about the issue, Nick H[redacted] told us that they had remediated the issue as much as they were prepared to do and demanded we pay the remaining portion of the invoice (~ 13% of the total bill) that we had held back pending the resolution of the runoff issue. We tried to discuss alternate solution, including allowing us to take a portion of the held-back payment to pay a landscape to correct the remaining issues, but VAS held firm that the job was complete and full payment was required.Desired Settlement: We would like VAS to either finish remediating the runoff issues so that there is no further damage to the new driveway or mark-down the remaining amount owed so that we can engage another company to alleviate the runoff problems.
