Review: I had taken a 1969 ford Torino to visions restorations to have paint and body work done . Chris Pugh and I done some trading for payment of his services and I was to have my car done and painted in two months... We'll in order to trade work he was to have payment up front so I did?? In return I got a cash receipt of 6500.00 needless to say 4 months and 7 days later after numerous phone calls and text my car still not completed barely started on and the services that was done was very poor so I went and retrieved my car after several trips down to his shop 2 hours away.. Every time I tried to get in touch with him he did not answer when I called but later would text message me back. Several times when I stopped by the shop to see progress he was not there.Desired Settlement: Full refund of cash value receipt of 6500 dollars or my items of the same value that I traded for this job

Review: I was led to Mr. Pugh's business, Vision Restorations, via a web link from another, reputable company in Martinsville. I called Mr. Pugh to ask him about refinishing the dash bezels for a 1968 Dodge. The restoration involved re-chroming all seven pieces followed by painting and detailing to bring them back to original factory condition. I was quoted a price of $465.00 and was instructed to make the check out to [redacted]. I sent the parts off on July 26, 2012. The check was cashed on July 31, 2012. I called Mr. Pugh on September 9 to see about the progress on my parts. He told me the chroming was done and the parts only needed painting and detailing and would call when he was ready to ship. I called again on November 9 and left a message on his voice mail asking where my parts were. I found a return message on my office voice placed on Veterans' Day explaining that one of the parts had a persistent problem -- he believed probably due to some kind of oil embedded in the pores of the plastic -- that prevented the chrome plating from adhering. He said he would have to keep dipping it in a solvent until it was free of contamination so the chrome would adhere. With the spring car hobby season approaching, I called him again in February 2013 and left him a voice asking where the parts were and telling him this was no way to run a business. More time passed with no communication and no parts appearing on my doorstep. I decided that I would travel to Martinsville personally at the first opportunity to see whether the company actually exists and whether he had left town. I took a vacation on July 31 to make the 5-hour drive to Martinsville. I found Mr. Pugh at his business address around 4:15 PM. I showed him a copy of the letter I sent to him with my parts, dated July 26, 2012, and the copy of the cancelled check. He went into a backroom and brought the parts out, wrapped in bubble wrap. (It looked like the same bubble wrap I had used to ship them and I should have opened them while I was there.) I naively assumed they were all finished except for the piece he told me he had had trouble with. I thought I would send the one stubborn piece to another business that would be more conscientious about solving the problem. I was as amicable as I could be with Mr. Pugh so that he would tell me what brand of black paint he used so the sheen on the remaining part would match the ones he worked on. He asked me if the address shown on the cancelled check was where he should send the refund. I answered 'yes,' that is my address in Pennsylvania where my credit union is located and where I go home to on weekends. My neighbor brings the mail in from my mailbox while I'm away. I decided to stop at a restaurant on my way home. When I came out of the restaurant, I opened up some of the wrapping on the parts to see what kind of work he had done. Nothing had been done to the parts. His progress reports and the problems he purported to have run into were all lies. I waited a month to find a check in the mail from Mr. Pugh. No check has ever arrived at either my [redacted] or [redacted], PA address. I called Mr. Pugh after the Labor Day holiday telling him that I still expect to receive a check from him and that I would call the the Magistrate in Martinsville if I did not receive my money back. I have since discovered that these matters are settled in small claims court and I am prepared to return to Martinville and appear before the judge if Mr. Pugh does not return the funds that I paid him for a job he did not do.Desired Settlement: At the very least, I expect the return of the $465.00 that I paid Mr. Pugh to refinish my parts. If this goes to court, I will seek compensation for the shipping charges, interest charges, travel costs and court fees.

Review: I provided the Business owner [redacted] with $2,800 cash to provide a quality paint job on my 1976 F100 Ford Truck. He was also for this amount supposed to purchase the remaining moldings, which I did not provide. I kept in constant contact with said owner, checking back every two weeks regarding the progress. He assured me that the progress was going well: He had purchased and received the moldings, installed them on a completed new paint and body job he had provided per our contract. This was two months after I dropped off the truck. From that point on, there was one excuse after another as to why I was unable to pick up the completed truck. After four more months of excuses I sent my wife to check on the truck. She then obtained the Sheriff's Deputy to try to get the truck or to ensure it was still at the business, to which he would not open the door. I then in the middle of the next week made an unscheduled appearance at the location. It was then that I discovered he had done less than one hour of body work, no paint, parts of my truck scattered everywhere, a missing stereo system and the truck had approximately 2K miles more on it than when it was left in his care. I requested he leave it alone and I would be back to pick it up in three days. He assured me he would have it completed when I returned, which I was unsure of. I returned to pick up truck in the dark while raining and returned home. He told me that the large box in the bed was the new moldings that he had purchased and was unable to install. The truck was literally falling apart on way home. The box contained a few of my old moldings and the paint job was not quality. It is ruined. I spent seven years on restoration of this truck and this was the finishing item for it to be completed in show quality. It is now ruined and will take me another seven years to repair the damage, thousands of dollars to have his paint job removed (bed lining paint) and repainted, along with purchasing new moldings that were not obtained as promised.Desired Settlement: The only thing I want is money that I gave in good faith returned, my missing stereo and this not to happen to any other unsuspecting persons. This has broken my heart and spirit. I was promised by the owner [redacted] that he would pay for the repainting and repairs my truck incurred while in his care, I have not received any of my money at this time. He has repeatedly used the excuse he is in a single income home with children. I do not wish ill will on him or his family, I just want my money.

Review: Chris Pugh undertook the painting of a vintage car for me in May 2015. He has promised on at least 5 occasions by phone and email that the job is complete and that he would deliver the car on a set date. He has now failed to respond to several messages and emails from me over a 6-week or so period. I paid him $1500 of an agreed price of $2500 in May, and that money remains with him.Desired Settlement: I want the car returned and the money refunded, according to what, if any, work has been completed in a satisfactory manner.

Review: On 5/20/2012 I sent Chris at Vision Restoration 28 parts to my 1969 Mustang to be restored. He assured me that he had 13 years of experience restoring pot metal and re-chroming plastic dash pieces. I explained to him that the car I am working on is high quality and he assured me that I would not be disappointed with the quality of the parts when I get them back. He asked me to send him a check for $700 to his CPA [redacted] because he could not receive credit cards at the time. I sent my parts and did not speak with him until I called him on August 8, 2012, when he informed me that the parts would be finished in 2 weeks and to send him the remaining balance of $572.50. I did not speak to him again until October 24 when I left a message to call me back. I called and left messages on 10/25 and 10/30. Chris called me back on 11/2 and informed me that he was having difficulties with some of the parts and it would take longer. I called him on 11/21 and left a message. On 11/26, Chris called back and said he was a couple of weeks out because the door handles were not drying properly and the finish was not correct. On 1/17/2013 and 1/21/2013, I called and left a message. Chris called back on 1/24/2013 and told me he would ship the parts out next week. I called him on 2/22, and spoke with Chris. He said he would send the parts out Monday. He called me on 3/12 and told me it would be a little longer. On 4/19, I left a message which he returned on 4/22 letting me know all the parts are good and they will be sent out. On 5/15 I left a message. On 6/10 Chris informed me that the parts are on their way and we confirmed my mailing address and he was to send me the tracking number. On 6/7, I left a message. On 6/24 we spoke and he said he would send me the tracking number that day. On 7/16 I received a partial shipment of parts. The parts I received were pot metal and were supposed to be restored. The parts looked like they were buffed on the surface, but were not dipped and plated like new. The window cranks still had the plastic [redacted] that needed to come off for the chroming process. I spoke with Chris on 7/17 and he informed me that the process he uses still shows imperfections and does not make the part look brand new. I was disappointed because I was not informed of this at the beginning of our transaction, but by this time I just wanted my parts back. I was under the impression all of my parts would be restored and look like new. During our conversation, Chris said we can discuss a refund once I receive the full order of my parts and see what does not meet my expectations. On 8/5, I started to text Chris because he would never answer his phone that I needed my parts. On 8/10, Chris texted me back that he was going to send me a tracking number for my remaining parts. On 8/14, I texted him requesting the tracking number again. On 8/15, Chris responds and lets me know that it will be all over soon and he sent me a tracking number on 8/16/2013. The parts arrive and as I start to unpack them, I can see that plastic chroming means two different things to some people. The parts are spray painted black and then a silver paint pen was used instead of chrome. The parts look unprofessional and what should be bright shinny chrome is dull silver with paint streaks. These parts are not restored and the quality of the work is amateur. I called Chris to let him know I received the parts and that my clock bezel was missing. He said he was going to ship the clock bezel and send me the tracking number. I called Chris on 8/22 and 8/28 and he is not responding to my calls. This has gone on for over a year and I have been patient and understanding during the whole time only to received subpar work from someone who calls themselves a professional restorer. I have paid Chris a total of $1,272.50, lost over a year of time moving forward with my project, and he kept my clock bezel.Desired Settlement: Since I have tried to work it out with Chris and now he is unresponsive, I request a full refund of $1,272.50 and my clock bezel. I still have to go get these parts restored since the restoration quality is poor.

Business

Response:

Spoke with consumer yesterday, returned his parts and issuing a full refund. Mailing refund this week.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait no later than October 8, 2013 for the business to send me the remaining clock bezel part and a full refund of $1,272.50 and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.Regards,[redacted]

Consumer

Response:

Thank you for discussing file number [redacted] this morning with me. As discussed, I informed Chris Pugh of Vision Restoration on 9-24-13 to send me a refund of $1,272.50 and my clock bezel by 10-8-13 and I would be happy. Two weeks have past and there has not been a resolution. Chris has not tried contacting me until I contacted him yesterday evening inquiring the status. He informed me that "the clock bezel is boxed and I am trying to get the rest of the money together...I am a little short. Things have not been good...but it is coming your way quickly." That message would usually satisfy me if he actually did what he said he would do, but he has a history of making promises and not delivering. Sincerely,[redacted]
