Volkswagen of Clarksville

After looking at several passats, I was given pricing on a specific model (stock#vw6028). After reaching back out to my salesperson to negotiate the price, I discovered that the vehicle they were trying to sell me did not offer the features that were advertised. These were not smal items either. Specifically, the pictures of vw6028 showed a sunroof, navigation system, etc. that were not part of the actual car. Complete bait and switch.

I am not looking for any resolution because I can tell they are not the type to make right their wrongs. I simply want others to know that they are capable of being very dishonest and without any business integrity. There were really only 2 issues. The first is at the time of this complaint there website has a pop up window offering a $500.00 coupon for any new or used car in stock. During the beginning process of bargaining I was told that the coupon offer does not really exist. This was from our sellsman who was young and only 3 months into this job. I asked him that's how I know how long he had been there. He was nice and I could tell a little uncomfortable trying to explain away their pop up window ad. I let him know that he should probably mention to those above him that the ad was a very dishonest business practice and they should remove it if they don't plan to honor it. The coupon does not say one thing about the 500.00 already being reduced on all prices reflected on the lot. It is pretty clear that the ad leads the buyer into thinking they will get the 500.00 off of the price on the lot. That however is really not the big issue. It is poor in judgement and most people continue to negotiate around that I am sure, it's just VERY misleading.
The bigger issue and the one I would like people to be aware of if what happened afterwards. I made my offer and the sellsman took it to the sales manager. He came out with the paperwork for the car we were buying and explained the details of why they couldn't meet our goals and close the deal. We talked more made some concessions on our end and made the offer. The sales manager at that time quickly said he could do that and we shook on the deal. At that point we started on the paper work. It was to be a very simple process since we were paying cash in full and had no trade in. 15-20 minutes into finishing the paper work, while the car was in the back getting it's final clean up and my wife was finishing up getting our insurance info faxed over the sales manager came back out and said that he could not honor the deal we had already made. His claim was that the web site that we found the car on charges them $400.00 and there was no way he could take a lose like that. He told me that the owner of the lot had told him that. I asked to talk with the owner and he had convienantly just left the dealership. To say the least I was very upset and before leaving had expressed great disappointment and disbelief at their lack of professionalism and integrity. I am honest and don't mind admitting that I did use 3 or 4 words I regret, only because I feel I lost my position of integrity at that point. Even had I lost my cool more then I did it would in no way change the fact that they broke a deal and it makes me wonder how they deal with issues in other area's of the car sales industry. I am still actually very shocked that a business like that did not just eat the $400.00 to keep their reputation in tact.
