Review: On May 14, 2014, at pm I called the Walmart Vision Center [redacted], PA, US, [redacted] ###-###-####, to schedule an eye exam for my daughterI have vision insurance through my husbands employer, which he is retired fromWith our insurance, we can go to any optical office anywhere in the world, anywhereThat not really being the main issue, just what caused the main issue, if need be, I can (and I have) self pay and turn in my own claim form for reimbursementI also want to note that I have been in the healthcare industry for years I have several college degrees and certifications in healthcare, I know what I am talking about, and I know insurance, especially my own. When I called, [redacted] answered (who I found out later is the manager) and I said I wanted to make an appointment, advised of my insurance, she said we dont take that I said yes, you do, I can go anywhereIn a very snotty tone she said this is Pennsylvania, we dont take it and hung up on me! Thinking maybe this one time, I actually could be wrong, I called my insurance company to verify[redacted] at the insurance company looked up by location and doctor, and said in fact I could go anywhere[redacted] gave me her info and said the office could call her directly to verifyI called back at 320pm on 5/14/2014, again [redacted] answered, I said I just spoke with her and my insurance company and I could be seen there, before I asked if she would call [redacted] again hung up on me, I guess she did not like being told she was wrongI have worked in a few places during my tenure, even in a prison system and of all the people I have encountered in my life, [redacted] was the rudest, most unprofessional, unethical, snotty, ignorant person I have ever encountered and to find out from Sherry, the manager at Walmart, [redacted] is a manager at that this unprofessional woman is NOT management material, especially representing a healthcare industryWhile being hung up on is not a crime, it does point to lack of courtesy and makes the industry as a whole look badOf course, after that encounter, I would not go to the Walmart Vision Center even if they paid me to go after that experience, this action just simply cannot go unaccounted for or be swept under the rug.Desired Settlement: I would like an apology in writing from [redacted] directly, not the company or corporation, or other manager, but from her directly taking responsibility for her actions, AND I would like for actions to be taken by Walmart to ensure that no other customer is treated as badly as I was and to know what policy and/procedure was put in place to ensure no other person is treated in that way in the future

Response:
06/05/14I recently received your correspondence regarding a consumer complaint who was unhappy with her experienceI personally received this phone call and can account for the conversationThe patient called asking to make an appointment for her daughterShe asked if we took her insurance and told me what her family carriedHer policy and plan is not one we directly work withI let the patient know and she asked me how this could be if we were on the list as a providerI assured her that this was unfortunately not a plan that we work withI advised her to call her insurance and to see what the confusion may beThe patient did as advised and called back with the results a few minutes laterShe told me I didn't know what I was talking about that she called her insurance and they told her that she go anywhere in the worldShe told me she gets the money backWhen I tried to speak to explain to her that her insurance may allow her to go anywhere in the world, however, it is not an insurance that WalMart Vision Center can submit for she cut me offSo I allowed her to speak her mindShe continued telling me that I should let my associates know that we don't know what we are talking about and should get our information rightI said "yes ma'am", "I will do that ma'am"I asked her if there was anything else I could do for her and she replied no that she would go somewhere else and the call terminatedAt no point did I hang up on the patientIn addition, I had another associate call her back in hopes she would respond and understand a little better speaking to someone else. This patient has a plan that she submits for her ownIt is a contract between herself and her insurance and not through WalMartWe are more than happy to help by giving itemized receipts and helping fill out any paperwork that insurance may need.Regardless, this patient feels strongly that she was not treated appropriatelyIn that aspect I have no issues responding with apology, I feel that no customer or patient should ever feel they are not a priority of as equally important as any other, I will send an apology letter immediately to this patient and thank you for your correspondence
