Missing Crystal
I shipped my 115 yr old pocket watch to this company. It was not running, it was not damaged in any way, the face showed some wear. I have pics taken a few days before I shipped it. I wanted it restored and repaired to run. I receive an estimate of $539.98 for repair. I declined The company shipped it back. The box was not damaged. Upon opening I discovered that the crystal was missing and the minute hand was not attached. I called them they claimed that they received it in that condition. I doubt that's true. I insured the shipment they filled no claim. I believe that if this is what happened the crystal should have been in the box, the hand was not damaged in any way. Someone worked on the watch. Because now it runs. and the crystal is missing. I have demanded that the crystal be returned.

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted] , and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because: The website states that the "crystal replacements" are starting at $I fully understand this is a beginning price due to the variables included; however, I emailed prior to shipment for an estimated overall cost for their service, given my watch modelThe response I received for the ESTIMATED FULL COST of the repair was $25-$The terms and conditions include that this does not cover the cost of the return shipping, which should add about $10-$to the cost if UPS were selected as a delivery methodThere is nothing on the website stating that the word REPLACEMENT does not include everything involved with just that, the replacementI made it clear my intentions were to compare pricing for the service I would receive, and a price was provided to me As stated verbatim in the email received: "Thank you for your interestWe carry a full line of replacement crystalsThe price for replacing them generally ranges from $to $depending on if they need to be custom cut." - Because mine was to be custom cut, I have no issue whatsoever with the fee being higher than this stated, but this is absolutely all that was stated as far as a generally idea of about what price to expect If there are too many variables, the email response should state that fact, and an estimate not be givenIf an estimate is given, the pricing should be an accurate representation of what charges the customer will incurOtherwise, you are simply misleading a customer on actual pricing by giving a price that does not include all services absolutely required to complete the repair As stated by the company's customer service representative, any reputable repair shop would require new gaskets and pressure testsIf this is STANDARD, this too would have been included in the estimate, stating that it is a separate charge from what information was provided to the customerA quote would not have been provided without this piece of information for a crystal replacement if it is standard practice; therefore, is appears to purposely mislead the customer The representative was not polite, very bluntly rude, and did assist in any customer satisfaction attemptsUpon now reading Revdex.com and other online sources, this seems to be VERY COMMON and should be addressed due to the frequency of the situationThis to me and others feels very much like a scam to exaggerate how low the cost of a watch repair will be, then overcharge and gouge the customer Sincerely, [redacted] ***

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted] , and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because: The response to my complaint from WATCH REPAIR USA to the Revdex.com still does not answer my concernsWhen my watch was initially sent to WATCH REPAIR USA, I specified on the phone and in the documentation sent to them that the watch was working perfectly and I wanted a replacement crystal only I specified that I wanted absolutely no servicing work on the watch as this was recently done (within the last year) and they said this would be alright Therefore, WATCH REPAIR USA had absolutely no right to open the back of my watch They told me an outright lie before the watch was sent to themWhen they received the watch, I was given a totally different response I called them and reminded them of my request for only a replacement crystal and I was then told, " [redacted] ***"-- not what they said to me on the phone before the watch was sent to them I never would have sent the watch to them if I had any inkling that they would insist on servicing it At this point, I absolutely did not authorize any work on my watch and requested, and paid for shipping, for the watch to be immediately returned However, the return of my watch was anything but immediate It took four weeks with numerous phone call and email requests before my watch was returned to me I found myself waiting on the hold for minutes each time I called Eventually, I discovered that if I click the option of " [redacted] ***r" that someone picked up the line almost immediately When I finally got the watch back it was not running at all; it was brokenMy local jeweler has now looked at the watch and says the movement of this watch is not the movement that was in my watch last year when it was fully serviced It will cost $to have it repaired by my local jeweler So I now have a broken watch, and I've wasted $in shipping costs both ways from WATCH REPAIR USA Since they did not tell the truth, I wanted my $returned but they didn't address that part of my complaint; they didn't address the part about their promise to just replace the crystal; they didn't address the part about my original movement missing; they didn't address the part that my watch is now broken.I have read all complaints about WATCH REPAIR USA on the Revdex.com website here All the complaints are similar: (1) an expensive watch is sent to WATCH REPAIR USA, (2) customer gets a repair estimate which is far different from what WATCH REPAIR USA explained to them either by phone or email, (3) customer either goes ahead with repair or requests watch back, (4) after an exorbitant amount of time, and after many emails and many phone calls, and sometimes complaints to the Revdex.com, the watch is returned and (5) most often the watch is broken upon return or not in the same condition as originally sent or both These similarities demonstrate a deceptive pattern with WATCH REPAIR USA and their customers The complaint department of the New York State Attorney General's office investigates patterns of complaints involving the same company I have therefore forwarded my complaint along with a PDF of the other complaints about WATCH REPAIR USA to the Nassau Regional Office of the New York State Attorney General located at [redacted] *** [redacted]

Customer paid weeks agoBecause Timepieces Internation, the company who makes Klaus Kobec watches, takes a very long time supplying parts, we expect the repair will be completed in weeks or lessThe customer could have simply called, emailed, live chatted us and we would have told them that The Revdex.com is not a way to request repair status

The use of the word crystal in quotes to make it seem that it was not an actual crystalA crystal is defined as the clear covering on a watch faceIt can be made of plastic mineral (glass) or sapphireThe only crystal that is available to us is a plastic one, and we used thatWe did not specify in the estimate what would be used, and the denotation that it would be "custom cut" would be more than enough indication for someone with a small amount of perceptiveness to understand that this is not the original partWe do use original parts when available, but since this was an year old watch it is not available Please have a Revdex.com representative personally review this so it does not continue to go back and forth, which I suspect will continue to happen

Revdex.com:I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted] , and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because: Once again, the representative for the company, Adam, seems to only be able to address one issue at a time My complaint addressed multiple issues: the deceitful practice of baiting customers by offering "free" estimates for repair that are not truly free estimates ($for return shipping REQUIRED), the cheap quality of the bracelet they sold me, and the poor customer service offered by Adam after I complained and requested a refund, which was not granted to me Adam only addressed the "free" estimate complaint I had In his response to my complaint throught the Revdex.com, Adam says that they would be 'happy' to use another shipping method (of my choice) to save me money Well, Adam never offered this to me, so how was I supposed to know? Once again, poor customer service and communication In his response, Adam failed to respond to my complaints of cheap quality and workmanship, and rejecting my request for a refund I consider this complaint to be UNRESOLVED until he does things: address these other issues in my complaint, and give me a full refund, including shipping If he does those things, I will consider this complaint closed and I will also send them back their cheap bracelet they sold me I'll even pay for my own shipping In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question aboveSincerely, [redacted] ***
