Wayne-Dalton of Raleigh Reviews (1)

The are trying to charge me for services not rendered and did not inform me what will happen if I don't hire them upfront.I called Wayne-Dalton and explained that the arm had broken off of our garage door. They gave me a price for the part and service to do the labor for $125. I was fine with this and we scheduled a day/time to come to my home around lunch time on February 24th, 2016. The repair guy arrived and when we looked at my garage door, explained that a spring is also broken and this needs to be fixed first and then he can fix the arm. He told me he did not have the springs with him and that we would need to re-schedule. I asked how much extra this would cost and he gave me a price of around $300. I asked if he was sure, he then said to call the office to double check and re-schedule the repair. He was in and out of my house in less than 5 minutes.I called the office and spoke to [redacted]. She told me a price of $305, which seemed a bit high and I had told her that would like to price shop and she replied, "no problem, I completely understand and I would do the same thing." Then, I asked her to please send me an e-mail with the list of parts I need and charges, just so I have it. I had also asked her to go ahead and schedule the repair for 3/2/16, just so I'm on the schedule - in case I don't find someone for less. She mentioned that if I do find someone else, please call her and cancel the 3/2/16 appointment. I told her, "of course I would let you know if I wouldn't go with you so you could cancel the repair" and she said ok, no problem (nothing else). So, I price shopped and found someone for $100 less to repair my garage door. I had then sent an e-mail to [redacted] on 2/24/16 at 3:02pm to cancel the repair for 3/2/16 and let her know that I found someone cheaper. After sending the e-mail, I closed my e-mail for the day.On Thursday 2/25/16 at 12:17pm, I get a call from a private number. I answer the call as I'm getting in my car with my baby girl. He starts to tell me he is the General Manager, [redacted], and then speaks very matter of factly....that since he sent a guy out to my house on 2/24 and since I'm not hiring them to do the work, there is still a service call fee I need to pay of $110.00. My phone accidentally hung up on him when I dropped my phone. He calls me back and I couldn't answer my phone, so he leaves me a message, which isn't exactly nice, but somewhat threatening. In a nut shell, he tells me that I need to pay this service call, otherwise it goes to collections and goes on my credit (I've saved the voicemail in my phone - it's pretty lengthy). I call him back when I'm able and explained that I didn't hang up on him. We then start arguing on the phone for a while and I tell him that no one told me that I would have to pay this service charge (a service I didn't get because no one did anything). The guy showed up and left. I was never informed of anything, nor was I given any paperwork, etc. He then said that he would "work" with me and charge me $55 (he would split the cost) and that I have 2 days to pay it, otherwise it's going to collections. Another thing, I'm not a person to "not" pay my bills. I offered to pay $25 for the drivers' gas and time to come to my home to get [redacted] off my back and he wouldn't accept it. It's $55.00 to pay now or it goes to collections for $110.00 - those are the options he gave me.On the 24th, when I told [redacted] I may not use them, she also didn't tell me on the phone that I would have to pay this if I didn't use them. Instead, she had sent me an e-mail on 2/24/16 at 3:15pm, telling me I have to pay $110 service call fee, after I already cut ties with them and that I found someone else.Had I known that I would be stuck paying $110 for no work done to my home, I would've never of price shopped. I would've sucked it up and just hired them and paid more for the job than I was comfortable paying. Now that they are asking for me to pay something that I don't feel I owe (and being rude), again no work was done and no one told me if they didn't do the job, that IDesired SettlementThis is a continuation of my complaint summery which includes the resolution I'm seeking at the bottom:would have to pay the service call. I have already hired another person to fix it my garage door (it was fixed on Friday 2/26/16 and have the signed receipt). When I had told [redacted] on Thursday 2/25/16 of the price I was quoted, [redacted] bad-mouthed the company saying the work is probably going to be cheap and bad and that they "Wayne-Dalton" have experienced tech's and do high quality work. He also bad-mouthed other garage door companies, saying since it's cheaper, it's probably going to be a crappy job. Why would someone say bad things about another company, because their prices are lower than Wayne-Dalton? To me, that's not good business practice either.I am completely confused of why a company wouldn't explain these things up-front (of their charges, etc). They didn't even offer to come and do an estimate (just in case) to make sure nothing else was broken. They come out, can't fix it, and now want my money for doing nothing. Please help me in this matter so they don't send this to collections, as I don't feel it's fair. They need to send or provide paperwork and make sure the customer is aware (upfront) of any charges they are to pay, if they are not hired (not after the customer decides not to hire them). I feel like I'm being punished because I didn't hire them, due to their high price. As a consumer, I should have every right to shop around and pay for a service for a fee that I'm comfortable with. Thanks for your time and I appreciate your assistance in this matter.Resolution I'm seeking:I don't want to end up paying anything because of the way this was handled by them and I didn't receive any services from them. It has caused me stress and headaches for the past 5 days and time away from my baby to spend time filing complaints on the computer and phone calls to check on my rights as a consumer! To Whom It May Concern,I wanted to let you know that the company has contacted me and told me that they will clear this out. I don't owe them any money and they had apologized for their mistake. Please close this case as resolved. Thank you very much!Kind Regards,[redacted]
