An 18 month old [redacted] Couch is fraying at one back corner and splitting at the seam. There has not been heavy use.Couch purchased June 2012, [redacted] couch, [redacted] Sales rep. Payment amount $2100, dredit card [redacted] This was a floor model. This couch has been handled with care. I have a photo, [redacted] states someone put their hand on the area and caused the problem. I have had couches for years and this has never happened. I have a photo if needed. I can get the credit card information and think I still have the invoice. Desired SettlementI would be happy if[redacted] or Wayside would repair the couch. They advised this is not under warranty. IF you see the photos of the couch you can tell this is a defective design. The explanation Wayside and[redacted] used is that someone put their hand on the area and caused the parts to come apart. We have no children, animals and this is not the case. This has not happened at the other end. I just want them to back up the product and not charge me for the repairs or send me on my way to pay for repairs. IF it can not be repaired then it is a defective design. Business Response We corresponded with Mrs [redacted] several times about this problem as we submitted pictures to [redacted] Furniture the company that made the sofa. The problem was that the fabric back panel of the sofa, which is held by a metal strip had come loose. This strip called "ply-grip" will open and close with pressure. If the fabric is bumped, the ply-grip can open exposing the cut edge of the fabric. This looks frayed, but it is the edge of fabric not meant to be seen. The simple fix is to tuck the edge of the fabric in the ply-grip and push it closed. The customer called the repair man we recommended and he fixed the problem. We have called the customer and confirmed that the repair was made. We also called the repair man to confirm the repair was as we thought. This type of problem has to be considered a damage rather than a defect. This doesn't mean the sofa was abused, but this can happen if the fabric is bumped. The sofa in question had been in the customer's home about a year and a half which is out of the warranty period of one year for factory defects. Consumer Response Wayside refused to correct the problem as did [redacted] January Wayside gave me the name of the repair person they use locally so I contacted him and personally paid to repair the couch. He said it was fraying(one and half yr old couch). On 3-10 I had a call from [redacted] at Wayside stating he would like to look at the couch and would see if Wayside could do the repairs. I advised I had been referred by [redacted] to the local repair person so I personally paid for the repairs. Wayside had never indicated they would look at the couch, [redacted] refused so I had no choice other than to repair the couch myself. I could not risk having it FRAY more. When I advised [redacted] at Wayside of my cost and that I had it repaired there was no offer to reimburse me. I have had couches for years and have never had a problem if the back was "bumped" . We do not use our furniture hard. Business Response As previously stated, the problem with the sofa was a damage not a manufacturing defect. This was the conclusion of [redacted] Furniture's examination of pictures of the sofa. The fabric closure on the corner of the sofa had been pulled open somehow. This was verified by our conversation with the repair man who fixed it. The warranty on a sofa is one year on manufacturing defects, which this wasn't. Wayside communicated this complaint to [redacted] Furniture, the manufacturer, who made the determination to decline the complaint
