[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the responseIf no reason is received your complaint will be closed Administratively Resolved] Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because:
I asked about any uncovered procedures and indicated that I did not want them. There were several opportunities for them as I emailed and called Weaver, indicated it was required for a contact exam evaluation, which it is not and many other optometry places. My wife also questioned about this during her exam.
Please see email, that recieved no response, so I called the person in question the day before. There was ample opportunity for weaver to notify me that the practice of Weaver was to use this non medically necessary procedure and that there would be an additional feeand to notify me that other placed may not require this test.
I know that the test being conducted can be beneficial to people, but is definately something that should be communicated in greater detail, especially with someone asking about said procedures, and insurance
Instead my wife and I are only told about it when the bill comes out. I see it is buried in the forms I sign, however again see email
Best Regards,*** ***

We understand that other optical practices may not require the corneal topography to be a part of their contact lens exam but in our defense we do not operate...

like most optometry practices.  At Weaver Eye Associates we emphasize the importance of optometry’s role in ones total health care, and are committed to providing our patients with the most comprehensive eye care.  Our doctors do not just perform an eye exam to give our patients a prescription.  We feel it is our responsibility to give each patient the best eye health exam as possible and offer them the newest and best products that fits their individual lifestyles.  This is why we always have the latest technology so nothing goes undiagnosed or untreated.  An eye exam can lead to many medical findings and it is our top priority to avoid our patients leaving our office undiagnosed because we did not have the proper technology to diagnose, treat or manage a possible disorder.  For example, we have all the best eye care technology in our offices which include
·         Pachymetry
·         Screening visual field analyzer
·         Threshold visual field analyzer
·         Optomap retinal photography
·         Ocular coherence tomography (OCT)
·         Heidelberg retinal tomography
·         Corneal topography
With these instruments our doctors are able to assist in disease management and treatment of many systemic disorders such as diabetes, high blood pressure and macular degeneration.  Not to mention diagnose and treat Keratoconus and Pellucid marginal degeneration.  This is why our doctors feel it is in the absolute best interest of our patients to perform the corneal topography on every contact lens patient.  The corneal topography provides extremely precise details about surface characteristics of the entire cornea.  It allows our doctors to view a map which provides them with necessary information to ensure we provide our patients with the best eye care and a successful contact lens fitting.  Also, with this our doctors are able to detect certain eye conditions which include Keratoconus, and Pellucid marginal degeneration.  Our policy is that we do perform this on every contact lens exam since changes can occur between exams due to corneal disease, degeneration, contact lens wear, injury and trauma.
We do like to be completely upfront with our patients so there are no “hidden fees”.  Attached you will find an example of a form every patient is required to sign before going back to see the doctor.  As you can see it does state that the corneal topography is not a covered test.
Our goal is not to profit from performing these tests on our patients it is only to ensure we are fulfilling our mission statement and providing the best eye care to our patients.
Our mission is to create enthusiastic patients through extraordinary eye care and legendary customer service.
Thank you for your understanding.  Please let us know of any additional questions!

Weaver Eye Associates does apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused as this is not at all our intent.  Again, we do feel it is our job to provide you with the best possible care.  It is very important to our doctors that we follow our policy for patient care during eye exams.  This includes performing a corneal topography on each and every one of our contact lens patients to ensure proper care. Unfortunately, our policy does not at all vary because we do believe this is in the best interest of our patients.  This may not be the policy of other optometry practices as patient care does differ.
We have issued a refund check totaling thirty-six dollars to cover the cost of the corneal topography that was charged to you and your wife.  It was truly not our intent to charge you for these without your prior knowledge.  We do strive to make sure our patients are aware of any possible costs that may not be covered through their insurance. Your feedback is appreciated and we will strive even harder to see this does not happen to any patients in the future.  We do apologize we were not able to meet your expectations and apologize for any miscommunication.
We wish you the best,
Weaver Eye Associates
