Welte Roofing Company Reviews (9)

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me I met with the owner of Welte Roofing at my home last week We talked for about minutes All the work has now been completed and I've decided to withdraw my complaint with the Revdex.com so please close this case out Thanks very much for your help with this [redacted] ***

This is to inform you that we have a meeting scheduled with Mr. [redacted] at his home on Tuesday, November 4 at 8:00am to discuss his complaint against us. We hope that we will be able to resolve this matter.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  Over the last four months, I have talked to three different employees at this company to request additional itemized information about a bill.  The owner now accuses me of being a bully for not paying a bill that has still not been explained to me or for completing the work they were hired to do.  I told the owner's employee that I was available to meet with him on Monday, Oct 13 but was told that the owner would be on vacation in Florida next week.  I then said that I was able to meet tomorrow morning, Oct 9, but have still not received a response.
I have a attached a longer response to the Revdex.com about this matter as well as copies of my two previous attempts to contact this company on June 27 and Aug 7.  The company did not respond to either of these requests for information.
Regards,
[redacted]

This customer is using excuses to not pay his bill.  The customer was there during the repairs.  He knows everything was done correctly.
We are meeting again with him this week (he is now busy and will let us know when he has time!).
This complaint is a bully tactic to...

avoid paying his bill.
Our next recourse is to take him to the magistrate.
Sincerely,
[redacted]
President, Welte Roofing

Dear [redacted]...

                                        ... .
It is always our intention to be as clear as possible about our service charges. Time & material service work is always portal to portal. This was explained to you when we visited your home. We have been performing roofing service work for over 60 years with thousands of satisfied customers. You were charged for the time and materials that we used.         '
A copy of your work order, completed by one of our technicians, is enclosed.
We are sorry if you misunderstood.
Regards,

I met with the owner of Welte Roofing at my home last week.  We talked for about 30 minutes.  All the work has now been completed and I've decided to withdraw my complaint with the Revdex.com so please close this case out.  Thanks very much for your help with this.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
The work order included in the response is inaccurate (and this is the first time we have seen this). The technician was at our site for exactly 52 minutes which included extra time he needed to fix a tile he broke (we had replacement tiles so he used our tile to fix the one he broke also). When he was loading the ladders and other equipment back on his truck, he cut his finger, and his first-aid kit didn't have the medical supplies to clean and cover the cut. We provided him with the supplies and helped him cover the cut. This took an additional ten minutes. We assumed that this additional time he spent treating his cut shouldn't be added to our cost, and we mentioned this also to Welte when we called them,
When we called Welte Roofing for clarification, they didn't dispute the time we claimed the technician spent at our house; instead they claimed that the charge for 2 hours was because of additional time for getting to our property, something that wasn't communicated to us in advance (and which was the primary reason for filing this complaint). Now, they claim that they billed us based on the work order filed by the technician. The person we spoke to ([redacted]) told us that he will ask his owner about being billed for two hours, and then he called back to confirm that we were charged for two hours because it included the time to get to our property. Now they seem to have changed the story.
We called Welte to perform the repair because of their long-standing in our community, and past Revdex.com rating. However, their handling of our complaint doesn't seem to be indicative of the excellence they claim they strive for. We know we are unlikely to do business with them again.
Thank you for mediating this unresolved dispute.
Regards,
[redacted]

Review: Welte Roofing gave us an estimate for repairing a leak in our slate roof; the proposal from them indicated that they would charge $200 for the first hour for a 2-man crew, $175 for each additional hour, and $10 per tile replaced, and $10 per caulking tube used. We were told that the job should take no more than an hour (for lifting one tile, replacing the paper underneath, and putting a new tile) so we expected to pay $210 for the job (we had spare tiles so we were not expecting to be charged for the tiles). From the time they arrived till they finished the job (including loading the ladders back) took about 52 minutes (I was outside with the crew). The crew broke an additional tile accidentally but we had a spare so that wasn't a problem. So we expected to be charged for an hour's work and the cost of one caulking tube.We were charged $395 - two hours for the labor, $10 for the caulking and $10 for the paper. When we called to seek clarification, we were told that the company charges for the travel time too, and hence the additional hour charged. This was a big surprise as we have never dealt with a contractor that charges for the travel. In addition, the company charged $10 for the paper, which was never mentioned in the proposal (we assumed that it was included in the labor). The company representative offered no good explanation as to why this was never mentioned to us at the time of proposal; if we had known we will be charged for travel (which could be anything), we wouldn't have accepted their proposal, and sought out a different roofing contractor who doesnt charge for travel time (or at least, upfront about that cost).Desired Settlement: We are seeking a refund of $175 - the extra hour charged for the job that was not time spent onsite.

Review: I have contacted Welte on two separate occasions by letter on June 27 and by fax on August 7 requesting additional information about two invoices I received for work done on my home. I have never received a response back. I originally called in May because I needed to have a few cracked tiles replaced, downspouts cleaned and a two-foot long diverter installed on my front gutter. An employee named [redacted] came to my house and told me that it would take one day to complete this work. I never signed a contract. Two workers came to my home on May 22, May 27 and June 23. There was never any conversation about work they performed with my wife who was home the entire time. The job is still not complete and I was charged for work they did not perform. I have been asking for a breakdown of costs for labor, materials and tax. I also want to know why it took three visits to complete work that I was told would only need one. I attempted to contact [redacted] numerous times in June and July to discuss this with him and he never returned my calls. I then received a phone call from another employee named [redacted] in early August who told me that [redacted] no longer worked for the company. He told me there had been some problems with [redacted] and he left. I discussed all this with [redacted] and also sent him a fax on August 7 again requesting an itemized breakdown for labor, materials and tax. I never received a response back from him either. My next contact with anyone from Welte was today when I received a call from [redacted] asking when I would pay the bill. I again discussed all these issues with her, but she told me that she worked in accounting and would talk to the owner about this.I have been a homeowner for over 30 years and have never dealt with a more disreputable company before. There has been no communication, no explanation and I have been waiting for three months for a response from someone. The diverter that was installed doesn't work properly and there are still cracked tiles that have not been replaced.Desired Settlement: I want to know exactly what I was charged for. How many tiles were replaced and at what cost, how many hours of labor and at what hourly rate and how much tax. This information should always be provided with an invoice. Also, I should not have received a second invoice or have been charged an additional $615 because this was for work that should have been completed the first time and was not. The job is still not finished. The diverter doesn't work properly and there are still cracked tiles.
