Review: 3 days into a project of an outdoor fireplace, he came to us & said to finish the project would be another $2000 on top of what he quoted us. A few days after that, it jumped to $2500, and said he wouldn't finish w/out that money.We were backed into a corner. He came to us when there was a 6' high cinder block wall in our backyard. At that point, we'd lost the ability to make any decisions to help it fit into our budget. If he brought it to us before the project started, we could've at least tried something (changed the fireplace position or remove some wood storage space) to bring the project down to meet our budget. However, when you come to us with a cinder block wall, we lose the ability to make that decision.We actually offered another $1000 on top of the original quote as an attempt to compromise but he wouldn't do it. This was also a mistake he fully admitted...several times to not only myself and my wife, but our general contractor doing the deck around the fireplace. Despite that, he still told demanded we pay for his mistake. He was actually trying to figure out ways where he could still make money on the project!!!Desired Settlement: We'd like whatever he paid for labor returned. Obviously the materials have been used so there's no recovering that. But the least he can do is return whatever money he made for labor as a result of his screw up & us having to go through the trouble of finding someone else to finish the job.
