When my husband and I moved into West Village in the summer of 2013, we thought we had found the perfect apartment. It was in an ideal location, and the interior was absolutely beautiful. Less than two weeks later, our spirit was crushed when the parking lot directly outside of our window was leveled and a major construction site was established. The leasing consultant had failed to inform us that this would be occurring before we signed a lease. When we complained, the community manager told us that there was nothing she could do, despite the fact that they had offered to let the residents of the adjacent building out of their leases when the construction started. We did not qualify for this exception because our apartment was located next to this building, rather than inside of it. Still, our home was mere feet from the noisy construction site, making it absolutely uninhabitable during the day. Life, frankly, was [redacted]. Our situation became dire when we discovered that we were expecting our first child. We simply could not put our baby at risk by living in a place where we were constantly accosted by noise and dust. The management, again, was absolutely unwilling to help us. We found a qualified subleaser for our apartment, but West Village made it prohibitively expensive to transfer the lease. The only option to maintain the health and sanity of our family was to pay a $500 fee and transfer to another Bell Properties community. We lost thousands of dollars on transfer fees and deposits. I would strongly advise against leasing with West Village or any other Bell Properties community. We have had nothing but bad experiences with this company.

I have requested 3 times that the complex repair a leaking roof. It's currently raining, and I'm being rained upon.I live on the upper floor of a over 100 year old building. There has been recent (1 year) worth of major maintenance to the building. I work from home, and have heard people on the roof for a significant duration of the one year period. Three times I've had to contact the office for a roof that has leaked during heavy, or continuous rains. Each service request has been "completed" without contacting, or visiting me. To say that work has been "completed" is laughable, as I'm currently being rained on from holes in the roof.Complex is shoddy at best. Be warned.Desired SettlementGiven that this is going to be the fourth request (I'm writing as it's raining on me) to fix this roof, I'm requesting a reduction in rent in general, or at very least a reduction of a months rent for abysmal service practices.Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted] - RMContact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXXContact Email: [redacted].comWe have been in contact with the resident and have made several repairs to the roof. We are currently working with a local contractor for a more permanent fix and hope to have the resolution in place ASAP. Our staff has met with the resident and communicated these efforts and will continue to do so until the permanent resolution is in place.

I was given a different apartment than promised. The night noise factor is disruptive to an 8-5 work schedule. My complaints are ignored/disregarded.After touring the complex in late November and paying a deposit immediately upon my approval in December, I agreed to a 2 bedroom unit located upstairs/courtyard facing. When I arrived on February 3rd, after driving from Seattle, WA, I was given keys to my unit, a downstairs/street facing unit. No one walked with me, showed it to me, discussed the change of apartments, etc... For several reasons, including the noise factor and security this is unacceptable. The all-night student parties upstairs on the wood floors are unacceptable. The sleep deprivation is a factor that is effecting my work production. Upon seeing the unit, I returned to the office, reminding them of the upstairs/courtyard location. I was told there were none available and they would let me know when one became available. After one month of noise complaints to the leasing office I have informed the office that I am now sleeping at a co-workers home more often than not because the relentless late night noise is unbearable. I was told the management office would speak with the tenant, and the situation would improve. It hasn't. I've talked to the office several more times,by phone, email and in person each time being polite and courteous. Never has a phone call or email been returned. After stopping into the office and suggesting I contact an attorney to resolve the situation, I received a call on the evening of April 9, the office called to advise me they would immediately rectify the situation. Since then, nothing has happened. After stopping into the office a couple of times, I received an email on April 27th saying they would find a new apartment for me, preferring an upstairs unit. One week later, I went into the office and was told they were too busy showing apartments to do anything about finding me a new apartment, but would contact me very soon. Now, it's May 10th, I've heard nothing. This has been an exhausting exercise- I'm weary of the lip service and am ready for a pragmatic solution. Desired SettlementMy first choice of settlement is for West Village Apartment to relocate me from my current apartment to a new apartment that meets my previous criteria and expectations. My second choice is to find a different apartment, moving at my expense and to be released from my lease without penalty and eligible to receive my full deposit. While it's been my preference all along to live at West Village but, the lack of follow-up, the endless empty promises, the blatant misrepresentation of apartment availability leads me to believe there is a systemic lack of integrity within the leasing office that will can only be rectified by a change in management and business practices. Business Response The resident was relocated to a different apartment as per their request.Consumer Response West village has addressed my complaint accordingly and they have relocated me to a new unit within the complex.
