Westons Body Shop Reviews (1)

Incomplete body repair, headlight damage, and interior cleanliness for 2002 VW Jetta TDI. My 2002 VW Jetta TDI was towed to Weston's Body Shop XX-XX-XX so it could be repaired after hitting a dog. I instructed Weston's to replace all damaged parts with OEM VW parts. I instructed them to also replace the current headlights which had no damage from the dog collision with new OEM headlights. The car was picked up by my father on 1-15-16. The next day I noticed that the valence on the bottom right of the bumper was not attached correctly and had a large gap. I also noticed that the interior had fine white dust all over it from sanding and a very strong paint/chemical smell. I found a cigarette butt in the back set. They damaged both headlights while removing them from the car. One headlight had a plastic mounting bracket that is broke and the other has a plastic tab that holds a access door that is broke. I'm unable to use or sell these headlights due to them being damaged. I also instructed Weston's to place all hardware (4 bolts, 4 washers, 4 locknuts) from my EU license plate frame holder from the damaged bumper in a plastic bag so I could reuse them. They only gave 2 bolts and 1 locknut. I sent two emails to Weston's on 1-16-16, attention [redacted] I have not been contacted by Weston's as of X-XX-XX and they will not respond to me. All contact with Weston's was done with [redacted]Desired SettlementI am seeking help in acquiring reimbursement for the damaged headlights and to have [redacted]'s Body Shop pay ** dealer in Jacksonville, NC for the correction of right hand side valance.Business Response Consumer Response Comments on Weston's Body Shop Response of 5 February 2016 to Revdex.com (Revdex.com)References: (a) Photograph of removed headlamps (emailed separately)(b) [redacted] L [redacted] email of 18 December 2015 (page 1 of Weston'sResponse)(c) Photograph of lower valance (emailed separately) (d) National VW Invoice of 11 February 2016 (emailed separately)(e) Photograph of removed charge tube (emailed separately)(f) Photograph of new charge tube (emailed separately) A. Incomplete Repair (page 2 of Weston's Response)1. All damage that occurred in previous car-dog collision was corrected and no known damage was present when current car-dog collision occurred.2. No comment; statement of customer's request.3. The removed headlamps were not cloudy. See reference (a). 4. Since the hidden damage (broken lamp cover plastic tab and mounting flange) were not reported in accordance with reference (b), it was concluded that damage occurred during disassembly. Reference (b) requested that any hidden damage be reported to customer. Additionally, any hidden damage should have been reported to insurance adjuster as well.5. Lower Valance (Front Lip Spoiler) has a gap between it and bumper on right hand side that is not present on left hand side. See reference (c). This was confirmed by reference (d). Reference (d) (in part) included inspection that confirmed above gap and also determined lower valance was an aftermarket unit and not OEM.B. Cleanliness of Car (page 3 of Weston's Response)1. This is not correct. Car was returned to National VW for verification of correct engine operation, check of wheel alignment, and alignment/adjustment of new headlamps.2 (and page 8 of Weston's info). I am not convinced that strong paint/chemical smell came solely from painting front bumper. White powder residue that coated entire interior of car was not present when vehicle was delivered to Weston's (neither was cigarette butt found on back seat).C. I emphatically deny there was ever any attempt to attain "some more free stuff". The complaint was intended to elicit a response from Weston's on what I considered to be repair shortcomings. It is unlikely that a complaint would have been filed with the Revdex.com if Weston's had responded directly to me in a timely manner.Addendum to above comments:After car was driven about 200 miles, it was discovered that oil was leaking from turbocharger-intercooler charge tube fitting at intercooler. Reference (d) also included an inspection that confirmed oil leak was present and also that tube fitting did not correctly couple to intercooler. Inspection of charge tube after removal revealed repair of the mounting flange (opposite end of tube). The damaged charge tube should have been replaced (vice repaired) in accordance with reference (b) and a phone call to Weston's prior to completion of repairs specifically requesting that any suspect hose or tube connected to intercooler be replaced. References (e) and (f) show the damaged/repaired tube and a new tube, respectively. Additionally, reference (d) stated the right hand side lower fender liner was missing. I do not consider the body work was satisfactorily completed as an aftermarket lower valance was installed that does not fit properly, a poorly fitting, damaged charge tube was used, and the right hand lower fender liner was missing. As far as the comment that I was attempting to attain "some more free stuff" is concerned, consider the following:No charge items provided by Weston totaled $200.93 (grille, intercooler air duct & bracket, and National VW's work). My cost to correct Weston's shortcomings will be at least $400.00.
