I am very surprised to see this complaintWe have been working with that customer for many yearsWe use flat rate pricing, which service contractors have been using for decadesThis was explained to them over the phone before we arrived at the houseWe also explained about our $79+tax site visit
fee (not $mentioned in the complaint), we explained for this we would send out a technician to look over all the jobs that need to be done and quote a price before we do the repairWhich we did and someone in that house agreed to the price then wrote us out a check when we were doneSo they were aware of the price before we startedThey could have refused the price, then they would just have been responsible to pay the $79+taxWe do not give itemized bills we use flat rate pre set prices in a book and we charge per jobSo I don't understand why the filed a complaint

Review: Contacted Econo-Rooter (aka Windheim Plumbing) to unclog basement walkout drain at bottom of outside cement stairwell. Drain becomes clogged with silt/dirt over time and will overflow during average rain. Have had drain snaked previously by another company. Saw ad for Econo in yellow pages. Spoke to a male employee and was told that the fee to unclog the drain was $175 to which I agreed. Plumber arrived and looked at (eyeballed) the drain. Said it didn't look like it needed cleaning. Recommended buying a pump from Home Depot and running a hose up over the rail at the top of the stairs. When asked how this could be powered since there is no outside electrical outlet, he said the power cord could be run under the steel entrance door. He then left. Needless to say, his inaction to clear the drain and dubious suggestion required that another plumbing company had to be contacted. This plumber snaked out the silt/dirt and flushed the drain, which indicated it was clear and would not overflow during a rain. On June 28th, I received a bill from Econo for $52.97 that showed a labor charge of $55.00 discounted by 10% + NJ sales tax. There is no description of work performed indicated. I called Econo to question the charge as no work was performed. The woman I spoke to said there was a charge for the plumber coming out. I told her that there is no mention of a service call charge in their yellow page ad, and I wasn't informed of it when I requested the service. She said, "Well, there is one." I told her I wasn't going to pay a hidden charge for no reason. She said, "We'll let the courts decide" and hung up on me.Desired Settlement: The business should remove the $52.97 charge to me. I did not receive the service requested, which I would have paid. The plumber did nothing to remedy the clogged drain. The woman whom I spoke to about the matter was extremely discourteous. If she could not explain the company's policies in a professional manner, she should have referred me to someone who could. If the company has an expectation for billing as soon as the plumber reaches the customer's site, it should be indicated in their advertisements.

Response:

on friday 6/29 I received a call from company, The secretary said to disregard the invoice they sent to me. and I would not have to pay the $52.97 (disputed amount)

Beware of how they charge hourly. I was charged 1 1/2 hours for less than 30 minutes of work. They start charging from the minute they call you. It took the guy 15 minutes to get to me and I'm in the same town no more then 5 minutes away. Then he did not bring any parts needed so he had to go back to the shop and took 20 minutes. Then made a mistake on the connection which took another 10 minutes. So in all I was charged for the 15 minute ride in took him to get to me, the 20 minute ride to get the part and 10 minutes for the so called mistake. It took him 1 hour and 10 minutes total and was charged for 1 1/2 hour even though he only spent 25 minutes fixing my plumbing. Spoke to the owner and he did nothing. Stay away everyone.
