I went to the business on Saturday, February **. They agreed to change one of the lenses on the frame (as per my request) and should have it completed by Tuesday, March [redacted] 2015. They were courteous and attentive. I would like to keep the case open until I receive the frames and find it to be satisfactory. Thank you.

Review: My grandmother had an eye exam on 4/**/14 and was charged the website advertised price of $18.00 which she paid at the time of her visit. There is nothing on the website detailing any additional fees associated with the exam. On 5/*/14 I called for the prescription and was told I could have it faxed for an additional $21.00. When I asked about this fee I was told it is the new company policy.

It violates federal law to charge an additional price for a prescription. Since they were holding her prescription hostage I had to pay the $21.00 on my credit card on her behalf. This is unfair and deceitful advertising and a disgusting business practice.

Additionally, this is in direct violation with the federal law which states:

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, enforces the Contact Lens and Eyeglass Rules, which increase the “portability” of your contact lens and eyeglass prescriptions.

The Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) "Prescription Release Rule" requires eye doctors to give you your eyeglass prescription, at no extra cost, immediately after an eye exam that includes a refraction (a test that determines the prescription needed to correct your vision). Your eye doctor may withhold your eyeglass prescription until you have paid for your eye exam, but only if your eye doctor requires immediate payment whether or not a visual correction is needed.

Additionally, the optician that conducted the exam is not licensed with NYS as required.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund as I was illegally charged an additional price of $21.00 to obtain a prescription after already paying for the exam.

There is a sign in the store clearly stating our policy. However, in order to appease the customer we will send a $21.00 refund check to the patient, [redacted].

Review: Hello, I was at Wize Eyes on Saturday January [redacted] 2014. I was examined for a pair of eyeglasses. I noticed the examination was very fast, but I assumed that technology was better. I was sold two pairs of glasses, for $217.00. I picked up the glasses on Sunday January [redacted] 2014. I tried on the glasses, everything was great. I left the store, and drove to the local supermarket. At the supermarket I discovered that I can not see to read with my new glasses. I called the retailer right away. They said that there might be a problem with the prescription, so they told me to come back and get re-examined. I met with another optometrist. [redacted]. He took his time and examined me correctly. He told me that I need double vision glasses, instead of the single vision glasses I was sold, and also I needed anti glare lenses as well. I went out to the counter, and Wize Eyes wants to charge me $160.00 per pair of glasses. I was paying cash for this, and I could not afford this. If I was told that I needed all of this in the beginning, I would have only gotten one pair of glasses, and I would have picked cheaper lenses. I had to pay $100.00 just to change 1 pair of glasses to the double vision kind, without the anti glare, as that would be $80.00 more. I am very upset that the initial exam did not reveal what kind of glasses I needed. I would have made different choices. What can I do now?Desired Settlement: I would like to have the correct lenses put in my glasses, at little or no cost. Or a complete refund so I can go someplace else.

Response:

The initial prescription given [redacted] is for distance vision and is 100% correct.

[redacted] also needs a correction for reading. His options are: two separate pairs of glasses(one for distance and one for reading), lined bifocals or no-line multifocal progressive lenses. Multifocal lenses are more costly than single vision lenses.

[redacted] was given a complete credit on the initial 2 pairs of distance glasses and was then charged only the difference in price for the more costly progressive lenses that he opted for.

At Wize Eyes we strive for every patient to leave with the most economically available lenses. Sometimes it does not work, and we have to use the more expensive and technologically advanced lenses in order to achieve patient comfort and maximum vision.

We want to make [redacted] happy, and are willing to do anything to achieve that goal, but we unable to supply multifocal lenses at the cost of single vision lenses.

Review: I purchased a pair of Dakota frames with [redacted] lenses. I was examined, and the prescription was issued, frames ordered. After slightly more than a week of wear, I was unable to adapt to them, often getting headaches and nausea. I returned to the store, saw the optician who gave me a second test. I tried wearing the lenses again but experienced the same symptoms. I was told I could have them changed to either full distance or full reading (no [redacted]). I opted for the full distance prescription. I was told that would be fine, but no store credit would be issued for the difference. The difference being that distance-only lenses on this frame costs less than the [redacted] lenses. The receipt shows no refund 30 day exchange. I spoke to the woman at the store but she told me they cannot issue me a credit, even though the full distance costs less than the [redacted]s.Desired Settlement: I would like a store credit for the difference of the cost of the lens. I am not satisfied with the lenses I originally received and don't feel I should absorb the cost due to something that is causing me to feel disoriented, nauseous and is not working as prescribed. Thank you for your time.
